Get Your Frilly Handkerchiefs Ready

Bob’s Burgers on Fox at 8:30pm ET. Fourth season winter premiere.

Blood, Sweat, & Heels on Bravo at 9:00pm ET. Series premiere. The latest in Bravo’s succession of shows featuring attractive ladies in nice clothing having endless lunches and cocktails together around the “jobs” they allegedly still hold.

Downton Abbey on PBS at 9:00pm ET. Two hour fourth season premiere. I’m morbidly curious to find out how the writers plan to punish the viewers this season. I doubt they’ll be able to make us hate them more than they did last season, but I’m certain they will try their best.

The Good Wife on CBS at 9:00pm ET. Fifth season winter premiere.

The Mentalist on CBS at 10:00pm ET. Sixth season winter premiere. The commercials seem to indicate that Agent Lisbon has been promoted to the FBI and they, somehow, let her bring her pet con-man with her. Hmmmm.

Genevieve Burgess doesn’t always watch soap operas, but when she does they have high production values.

Things I watched while on my holiday break:

    - Rectify: Holycrapawesome. I borrowed the DVD from my library and when returning it (late) I made my librarian take it out for herself too.

    - The Hour, S1: Enjoyable although I can't decide how I feel about Romola Garai as an actress (is she good? or was just that such great writing even she couldn't screw it up?) but I thoroughly enjoyed Ben Whishaw. I just wish he has a wee bitty more meat on them bones.

    - Wolf of Wall Street: Hilarious. Yeah I know all about the controversy and I've read all the posts on here and FilmDrunk but still ... I laughed a LOT.

    - American Hustle: No one gives fabulous ugly cry face like JLaw. Also Amy Adams deserves waaaaay more attention for her work in that role.

    - Inside Llewyn Davis: Poignant, exacerbating, sensitive, shallow, beautiful ... all words I've used to describe Llewyn Davis as a character. Wonderful wonderful movie.

Ugh being back at work 8 hours a day blows.

the most exciting thing that happens in this season of Downton is a pig crisis. I wouldnt get too het up about it if I were you.

    What I watched this week:

    -Warm Bodies - Not bad.
    -Resolution - Ambiguous and creepy.
-Lymelife - Like to see more of Jill Hennessy and Timothy Hutton
-Knocked Up - Funny. Why is the movie called knocked up and they have Seth Rogen on the box cover?
-Mama - a decent horror flick.
-Eat Pray Love - didn't like it
-From Paris with love - Travolta channeling Nicolas Cage
-Gangster Squad - you guys warned me
    -Horrible Bosses - okay
    John Carter - Not bad
    -Dream House - meh
Identity Thief - wasn't great but not as terrible as reviews made it out to be

Ha! Gangster Squad was part of new year's day hate watch marathon with friends. It was spectacularly cheesy.

The only reason I watched it was because Emma Stone was in it.

The only reason we watched it is because it was on.

    re: Mentalist
It's the other way around. Jane ended up working for the FBI (long story), but part of that agreement was that he would only do it if Lisbon could be with him.
