I watch Hocus Pocus every goddamn year around Halloween probably since it came out. I can't help it. I love it. I can quote it backwards and forwards.

Sarah Jessica Parker was my first onscreen crush because of this movie. Didn't hurt that I was already a Halloween obsessive at 8 years old. Between this, Addams Family, and The Witches, it's no wonder I associate horror with romance and pnub.

I had a crush on Omri Katz who played the teenage boy in this movie. A huge crush. Born out of that show Eerie, Indiana. So that might explain some of the teenage girl love for this movie. Or else people just fucking love Halloween, I mean who doesn't?

Yup, loved Omri when I was a teenybopper.

Sarah Jessica Parker was really good-looking in this. And to be fair, Bette Midler was off-the-hook funny AND malevolent - she got the whole "Halloween witch" vibe.

The movie is STILL popular with teenage girls because Disney Channel runs it every year.

Also, let's give some credit to Kathy Najimy riding the vacuum. She's awesome.

That movie is still popular with grown up girls, too. I know a ton of people my age (and no, we were NOT teenaged in 1993) who still watch Hocus Pocus every year. IT IS NOT SAD AT ALL, STOP JUDGING US! ...ahem.

I loved it too. STOP JUDGING US.

And I can't judge. I wasn't a teenager in 1993 either, and I still dig the movie.

But is it better than The Worst Witch? I was actually wondering if this movie WAS popular with girls - I have no memory of it being a thing at my school - but maybe at 16/17 I was just a little above that demographic.

I don't know about better, but I never heard about "The Worst Witch" until this year, assuming we're talking about the movie with Tim Curry and Fairuza Balk... I know a lot more people who saw "Hocus Pocus", whereas "The Worst Witch" wasn't a part of my childhood.

I was 9 at the time, but I concur. Probably the best she's ever looked. The corset probably helps.

Best she's ever looked? The Sarah Jessica Parker from "L.A. Story" begs to differ.

Courtney Love was never crazy in the good way; people just didn't recognize her batshittery. I went to school in Portland in the late 80s when she was a scenester there and she was UNIVERSALLY reviled.

- Everyone learned what a "G thang" was as they played The Chronic nonstop.
- The Bodyguard (or rather "I Will Always Love You") was a big hit.
- We all lined up to see Jurassic Park.
- We met Mulder & Scully, Frasier's Dad and Brother Niles and saw a lot of Dennis Franz's ass.

That witch movie was strangely compelling when I was a pre-teen, despite the fact that I was aware of the fact that it wasn't particularly good. Chalk it up to the talking puppet cat and Bette Midler's antics.

I kindly ask you to please step off of Pacino's beard. I have far too much love for Carlito's Way to tolerate that junk, especially since there's more deserving fodder, like Sean Penn's 'fro.

I TOTALLY just watched Hocus Pocus the other night and it was horribly terrible and filled with a lot more sexual innuendo then I remember there being when I first watched it (but to my defense, I was a terribly naive and innocent child. Like TERRIBLY naive and innocent). But this list has just reminded me of how long it's been since I've seen Cool Running and that is a problem that has to be resolved as soon as feasibly possible. I imagine this movie was almost as good as I remembered it being. maybe. Probably not.

Reese wasn't a grown-up! Neither was I, but I had an awesome black skirt and suspenders outfit that I wore with turtlenecks and white button-downs.

The Jamaican bobsled team movie was also inexplicably popular with girls. Or maybe just me...
