What Is Your Most Anticipated Movie of the Fall

By Dustin Rowles | Posted Under Miscellaneous | Comments (41)

I ran a Guide last Friday on my most anticipated movies of the fall, and so far, I’m 0-2, after the lackluster showings of The Informant! and Jennifer’s Body (on the latter, I agree wholeheartedly with Ted’s review, but I did love Adam Brody in it), while a movie that wasn’t on the list, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, is shaping up to be not just a surprising commercial hit, but a big hit with audiences, as well.

Still, I’d like to see how our readership’s expectations line up with my own for the rest of the fall (now to Thanksgiving). So, how about a poll?

Which of these movies are you most anticipating this fall?

I wanted to say The Invention of Lying, but I cannot turn down a musical. It must be the gay boy I keep trapped ins--

I mean, I have always loved music.

I was not aware that "where the wild things are" and "zombieland" had question marks at the end of their titles. It adds a whole new dimension to the film's possibilities, I think.

Posted by: the_wakeful at September 22, 2009 11:40 AM

Paranormal Activity.

Posted by: John W at September 22, 2009 11:42 AM

472. All I scored was a 472. Man, I hate these friggin' quiz things...

Posted by: Skitz at September 22, 2009 11:47 AM

None of the above movies are attractive enough to face the horrors of The Movie Theatre Experience©. I'm doubtful that such a movie exists.

Posted by: Agent Scully at September 22, 2009 11:48 AM

Skitz,
Out of 473. You missed the one about Postulated Nuclear Fusion. It was a trick question. There have never been any proven nuclear byproducts produced in a controlled experiment.

You made me choose between Zombieland and Whip It?!

Posted by: Anna von Beaverplatz at September 22, 2009 11:52 AM

My thoughts exactly! I went with Zombieland, but Whip It is right behind that.

Posted by: Gabs at September 22, 2009 11:56 AM

Damn, I was hoping there was a roller derby scene in Zombieland.

Posted by: mrcreosote at September 22, 2009 11:57 AM

The trailer for Where the Wild Thinga Are is one of the best that I have ever seen ever. I am extremely excited about that flick.

Posted by: John Denver's Wingman at September 22, 2009 11:57 AM

This was no easy choice, I am more excited about four of these than I have been for a movie in a while. In the end I could not deny the allure of Where the Wild Things Are.

Posted by: DemonWaterPolo at September 22, 2009 12:00 PM

At least Dustin didn't influence the votes by placing a particular title as the first choice.

Posted by: Sapphiar at September 22, 2009 12:04 PM

My most anticipated, Shutter Island, was moved to the winter so I went with Where The Wild Things Are.

Posted by: ed newman at September 22, 2009 12:06 PM

". . . . roller derby scene in Zombieland."

I can't possibly expect to read 5 words in a squence more funny than the above either today or perhaps any time in the near future.

Thanks,mrcreosote!

Posted by: NeoCleo at September 22, 2009 12:13 PM

Nine is the one I am going to really be campaigning for us to see in the theater.

I saw the trailer at 500 Days of Summer and it looks amazing. There are several others on that list that I am looking forward to and have already saved on Netflix, but if I only see one movie this fall Nine is the one I want to see in the theater. Big musicals (Chicago, Moulin Rouge) just play so much better on the big screen. Movies like The Invention of Lying or A Serious Man will be more enjoyable at home on DVD six months later.

Although if the early returns on Zombieland are good it might be fun to experience that in a theater full of crazy people on a Friday night.

Damn, I was hoping there was a roller derby scene in Zombieland

mrcreosote, at list Whip It will be full of zombie style acting.

Posted by: EricD at September 22, 2009 12:18 PM

None of the above. Can't wait for The Boat That Rocked, tho.

Posted by: Chickaboom at September 22, 2009 12:36 PM

Ooooo, so hard to choose. I had to go with Where The Wild Things Are since I've loved that book since childhood and Zombieland just can't compete against it. I'll see both late on a Saturday night for opposite reasons - to avoid the target audience for Where The Wild Things Are and to enjoy the target audience for Zombieland.

Posted by: stardust savant at September 22, 2009 12:41 PM

Did no one else see Prisco's worrisome Tweet about not getting your hopes up for "Where the Wild Things Are"? What was that about?!

Posted by: TylerDFC at September 22, 2009 12:43 PM

Posted by: Chickaboom at September 22, 2009 12:36 PM

I think they've rebranded it as "Pirate Radio" in the US, seeing as we're getting a trimmed version. Bastards.

Posted by: Doctor Controversy at September 22, 2009 12:50 PM

I saw it TylerDFC and I didn't like it one bit. Not one.

Posted by: SilverDeb at September 22, 2009 12:51 PM

Since WTWTA appeals to so many parts of me (mom, inner child, adventure, emotions), I have to go with it.

Posted by: Cindy at September 22, 2009 1:13 PM

Pandorum has my hair standing up too though - I'm putting that at a close second.

Posted by: Cindy at September 22, 2009 1:16 PM

SilverDeb: Ok, glad I'm not the only one. I will just wait patiently for my hopes to be crushed.

Am I the only one that wants to see "Surrogates"?

Posted by: TylerDFC at September 22, 2009 1:21 PM

Why isn't "None Of The Above' on there?

Posted by: Candy at September 22, 2009 1:38 PM

I'm assuming Precious is technically a winter release, then? That's the only film, Antichrist aside, that's getting me all worked up.

Well, except for The Princess and the Frog, but that's a horse of a different color.

Posted by: Robert at September 22, 2009 1:44 PM

What's the difference between "a commercial hit" and "a hit with audiences"?

Or did you mean critical hit?

Posted by: Anonymoose at September 22, 2009 1:52 PM

Zombieland, because it can't possibly screw it all up. I refuse to get my hopes up about Where the Wild Things Are, because even if it is a great movie, the hype I could end up generating for myself will overshadow it, no matter how good it is.

Zombieland can't fail, you would have to cast Megan Fox and have the dialogue written by some hipster douchester for it to possibly suck.

Posted by: George at September 22, 2009 2:28 PM

Am I the only one that wants to see "Surrogates"?

Posted by: TylerDFC at September 22, 2009 1:21 PM

I do too, but it has a 90% chance of sucking, it's already Tuesday, and Rottentomatoes doesn't show a single advanced screening. Most of the time, that'll give you a certified turd on your hands. Which is a shame, because I love Bruce Willis and science fiction.

Posted by: George at September 22, 2009 2:33 PM

I would've voted for Supermodel Documentary Hour but it wasn't listed. Also, it doesn't exist but in my (wet) dreams.

Posted by: Sofía at September 22, 2009 2:48 PM

Precious, dude. A mess o' actressin' all up on that screen. Mariah deglaming herself like whoa. Mo'Nique NOT in a role where she owns her size and plays a sassy caricature? Mo'Nique sounding exactly like Tracy Morgan on 30 Rock? (Seriously: go watch the trailer.)

Oh man, it's gonna be awesome.

Posted by: whatBENwatches at September 22, 2009 3:00 PM

I guess I'm the only one so far who is psyched to see The Road. Ohh well...I'll go back to my gloomy little world. You can have your childrens stories and zombies. Ok that's a big fat fucking duh that I want to see Zombieland. I'm still putting The Road over it though. If the movie is anywhere near as brutal as the book, there will be people leaving the theatre for having a soft stomach.

Posted by: DeistBrawler at September 22, 2009 3:11 PM

Toy Story I and II in 3D for one price!

Posted by: grumpiestoldman at September 22, 2009 3:50 PM

Thank you, Doctor Controversy, didn't know it was renamed. The Boat That Rocked is an awesome title, too bad they changed it. Pirate Radio is dumb.

OH! Unless there's rockin' plank-walking, or the keelhauling of disco records, or maybe a dj who talks like a pirate? "Yarrrrr, where be me rock n rolllll recorrrrrds?"

Then I absolutely couldn't wait for it to come out, of course!

Posted by: Chickaboom at September 22, 2009 3:53 PM

I saw a trailer for Fantastic Mr Fox, and it seemed quite funny, but I can't deal with that animation. It really creeps me out.

Posted by: Carrie at September 22, 2009 4:17 PM

George: I'm there with you on Willis. I haven't looked for any reviews yet, didn't realize it hadn't screened. Netflix it is then!

Posted by: TylerDFC at September 22, 2009 4:43 PM

The Men Who Stare at Goats

Posted by: Maryscott O'Connor at September 22, 2009 5:30 PM

Yeah, I'm in the Men Who Stare at Goats boat.

Obviously, I mean wanting to watch the movie. There are no goats where I live.

Posted by: StepDown at September 22, 2009 11:25 PM

I picked Zombieland even though I'm stupidly looking forward to Gentlemen Broncos. The trailer cracks me up and I really want to laugh at some stupid shit. Like soon.

Posted by: myysharona (formerly Sharon) at September 23, 2009 1:00 AM

Tyler -- I'm hoping Surrogates does not end up having the same look and feel of A.I. (yuck!) -- at least it looks like Jude Law won't be making any awkward robot appearances

Posted by: Alan Vinart at September 23, 2009 1:20 AM

How nice it will be guys? Watching Bruce wills movies are my hobby. , I thank him to act in such a movie which reveals scientific aspect in the world. He is marvelous actor and he can act catching most sensitive events. In a nut shell surrogates movie is great one.
