We here at Pajiba voted Short Term 12 as our favorite film of the year. It’s such a lovely little indiet. But the emphasis is on “little.” When I talked to my film-savvy dad about it last night he hadn’t even heard of it. That’s right, Short Term 12, you were not even a blip on the Dad Demographic Radar this year. If you haven’t seen the film, which also features The Newsroom’s John Gallagher Jr., Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Stephanie Beatriz and Justified’s Kaitlyn Dever. But, most of all, it’s Brie Larson’s show. If you haven’t seen Short Term 12 yet, it’s not too late to rectify that poor life decision. The film is available to rent on a number of digital platforms including iTunes and Amazon Prime. It is, however, too late for Brie Larson to get a much-deserved Best Actress nom. (Meryl Streeeeeeeeeeeeeep!!!!) Edgar Wright (who, of course, is the one who first exposed me to the lovely Brie) sums up our feelings here:
This just in: Brie Larson nominated for 'Best Actress' in cooler parallel dimension where indies can afford more screeners.
