Does Sarah Palin Understand What 'Hollywood' Means?

Just as we’re all still reeling from Jon Stewart’s fantastic telling-off of hypocrisy king and reverse-culture snob Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin has come out for another round of Not Knowing What Words Mean (a favorite segment here at Pajiba). ‘Cause see, Palin really loved American Sniper. She loved it as much as she hates “Hollywood leftists.”

Things about this that make my brain explode:

  • She does know that “Hollywood” is not a pejorative term, but the actual place where this movie was produced, right?
  • The same goes for “leftist.” Clint Eastwood may give speeches to empty chairs at Republican conventions, but Bradley Cooper donated money to Hillary Clinton’s campaign in 2008. And believe it or not, Sarah, he probably doesn’t see that as some character flaw that he’s making up for with this film. Making a movie about someone YOU approve of does not elevate a person out of their chosen geography, beliefs, or profession.
  • If American Sniper wins some Academy Awards, does that taint its meaning? If Clint Eastwood caresses a shiny (probably not plastic) trophy, does that mean he also has to spit on some freedom fighter graves?
  • If Palin is so into historical freedom fighters and gets off on “Hollywood leftists” disparaging them, I would LOVE to hear her thoughts on Selma. We’ll be waiting, Sarah.
