“You may know a lot about chemistry man but you don’t know jack about slangin’ dope.”

But at least he’s got a good dome / Seth Freilich

I’ve been remiss in my TV Whore duties, as I should’ve been reminding you all for weeks that “Breaking Bad” is back on the air tonight. My bad. And while it’s too late to catch AMC’s marathon of Season One (unless you’ve perfected time travel in which case, let’s talk), you can still catch up thanks to the network’s web site.

“But Seth,” you ask, “why should I catch up?”

Because “Breaking Bad” will likely be the best thing on TV for the next few months, particularly with “BSG” careening into its series finale and “Friday Night Lights” coming to a fantastic season (and possible series) wrap. The Q&D summation of the show is that it follows down-trodden chemistry teach Walter White, who has learned of his impending demise at the hands of the cancer, as he teams up with a former student to cook and sell crystal meth in order to financially care for his family. Bryan Cranston, who plays White, puts on a pretty fearless acting clinic (which is how he wound up with a surprise Emmy win last year) and he’s the primary reason why Stacey’s review of the show called it “poignant, and at times, downright heartbreaking” and why I later called it “an amazing show and ballsy a shit.” Point being, a good show, this “Breaking Bad,” and I’m highly optimistic that the second season will be just as good.

“But Seth,” you ask, “can I really catch up on a whole season’s worth of content in time?”

Why yes you can. First of all, the first season was only seven episodes long. Coupled with the fact that the show has a beautifully casual pace, this means you haven’t missed scads and scads of plot. But more importantly, AMC has put together seven clips, totaling less than an hour, which give you a great overview of what went down in Season One (here’s the link to the 8 minute recap of the pilot). These clips are also good for those of you, like me, in need of a referesher thanks to a piss-poor memory. And while they can’t let you revel in some of the pacing aspects and nuances that makes this show great, they can certainly make sure you’ll be ready to fully appreciate Season Two. And while you’re killing time on AMC’s site, you can also check out the webisodes that went up earlier this month, and have yourself fully prepared for Sunday night’s premiere.

“But Seth,” you ask, “what if I don’t even have an hour to spare?”

Well then here’s Season One in a minute, little Mr. Impatient:

Season Two of “Breaking Bad” premieres Sunday night (February 8) on AMC at 10 p.m. (which comes earlier than you might think for those of you who forgot to spring the clocks forward).

I must confess too, I lost touch with this series after around the third episode *sigh* it just seemed like it was taking too long to get going.

Let me see if I can get caught up again.

I was able to catch the entire "Breaking Bad" marathon on Saturday night. I found the show to be very entertaining. My favorite scene was when Walt fingered his pregnant wife at a high school function.

Give it a chance, B.

Thanks for the reminder, Seth.

Can someone enlighten me on the car Walt drives? Is it electric?

Adere it looks like a Toyota, but hold don't hold me to it honey.

Well, I finally have Direct TV, so I don't have any excuse. I'll make time, Seth.

Breaking Bad is great. Its biggest problem is that it's on AMC, which follows standard censorship rules. The show is so damn absorbing, and then I hear a bleep and I'm jarred back into reality.

Excellent show. I'm super-stoked for Season 2.

“Friday Night Lights” coming to a fantastic season (and possible series) wrap.

Excuse me for a minute, I'll be over here, weeping gently into my pillow. I doubt Breaking Bad will come close to replacing it, but I suppose it'll have to do.

Bryan Cranston is a god. The writers are pretty genius too.

You can also watch the entire Season 1 Episode 1 on the AMC website. Thanks to TiVo, I've one episode left to watch from Season 1 and then Season 2 is waiting for me.

I second that emotion. He was actually at a local ball-game, promoting a play he was doing in Jersey, and I got to take a picture with him. He was sitting at the table, I was standing up, and there was this moment where we didn't know what to do about that whole picture situation. So I began to crouch down as he stood up, and we met half way. He laughed and said something along the lines of, "See, I have people cowering in my wake". He's just a genuine personality, and it's good to see him have something going for him post Malcolm in the Middle. (Oh god do I miss that show.)

Re: Walt's car

It is a Pontiac Aztec; a "crossover" vehicle known for its ability to turn heads (usually before said head pukes); it uses gas; think minivan, but uglier.

Breaking Wind feels so much better though.

If I had one wish this Easter season, it would be for everyone to rent Season One of Breaking Bad and realize what fucking awesome show it is. OK: if you see no other episode, the fulminate of mercury episode is, possibly, the BEST EPISODE OF TELEVISION EVER. Maybe.
I saw the opening of Season 2, and I am absolutely, incredibly happy that it's back.
Seriously, people: watch it.
