Actress Skye McCole Bartusiak Is Dead at 21
Skye McCole Bartusiak, best known for her role as the youngest daughter of Mel Gibson’s character in The Patriot, has died. She was 21 years old. According to CNN, investigators are still determining the exact cause, but Bartusiak died in her sleep and, according to her mother, had been suffering from epileptic seizures in recent days.
“We lost our girl,” her mother, Helen McCole Bartusiak, told CNN. “She was a kind and really beautiful girl.” Bartusiak was found by her boyfriend, sitting up in her bed, in the apartment behind her parents’ Houston home.
Having starred in 1999’s Cider House Rules, 2000’s The Patriot and 2001’s Don’t Say a Word as a child actor, Bartusiak could more recently be seen in episodes of 24, Lost, House M.D. and CSI.
It’s heartbreaking to lose anyone. It’s devastating to lose someone so young.
