Well, SOME People Had a Great Christmas

By Genevieve Burgess | Miscellaneous | December 29, 2013 | Comments ()

Call the Midwife on PBS at 7:30pm ET. 90 minute holiday special.

Sunday Night Football: Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys on NBC at 8:20pm ET. I mean, I’m sure there’s a worse game to end 2013 on, but at the moment I can’t think of what it might be.

The 36th Annual Kennedy Center Honors on CBS at 9:00pm ET. Honorees this year are Martina Arroyo, Herbie Hancock, Billy Joel, Shirley MacLaine, and Carlos Santana.

Treme on HBO at 9:00pm ET. 75 minute series finale. I understand this show didn’t have the most viewers, but I’m sure those of you who stuck with it will miss it. I hope it gets a good send-off.

Ja’mie: Private School Girl on HBO at 10:45pm ET. First season finale.

Genevieve Burgess is making her list of TV resolutions for 2014. Suggestions welcome.

Justified Season 5: Eugene Young From 'The Practice' (Steve Harris) Is the Brother of Avon Barksdale (Wood Harris) from 'The Wire' | A Feast for Crows by George R.R. Martin

    Call the Midwife!!! Whoo-hoo!

  • Zirza

It's such a belittling show, but dammit, I can't help myself. MUST WATCH.

Anna Kendrick honoring Shirley MacLaine. Adorable. Not that Sutton Foster and Patina Miller are chopped liver.

My mother and I usually talk on Sunday evenings around ten, but she called early today...why? She and her husband were going to watch Eagles-Cowboys with one of the neighbors who had a big screen TV.

Winner gets NFC East championship and playoffs, loser goes home. GO EAGLES!

And maybe on Monday I'll get my own holiday cheer and watch Tampa Bay fire their idiot coach...

EDIT: I GET A TWOFER! Eagles win the NFC East and Tampa Bay fires both their bonehead coach AND the GM! Oh, frabjous day!

I'm glad to see two Latinos honored: Carlos Santana (Mexican-American) and Martina Arroyo (Dominican-American). Would you believe that since the Honors commenced, only two persons with Spanish surnames -- Chita Rivera and Placido Domingo -- have been honored? And Domingo isn't actually Latino; he's from Spain. I'm still waiting for honors for Linda Ronstadt, Rita Moreno, Los Lobos, and dozens of others.

  • e jerry powell

Poor Linda. Here's hoping she gets honored before Parkinson's completely takes over.

BTW, and no disrespect intended, but Demetrio Arroyo was Puerto Rican, not Dominican, and he married African-American Lucille Washington. Justice Sotomayor as the Arroyo presenter was a bit of a giveaway on that one.

I still don't know why Bill O'Reilly was presenting Herbie Hancock.

  • PDamian

Hmm. Could have sworn she was Dominican. Same sea, anyways, and still Latina.

And Bill O'Reilly presenting Herbie Hancock was downright weird.

  • e jerry powell

...and weirder still that nobody threw anything at him.

Still, the Kennedy Center Honors are far more interesting than playoff implications. I mean, why do the NFC North and East divisions even exist?

  • Bah. Bears-Packers was a great game and Cutler got sent into the post-season all embarrassed as is right and proper. Now all we have to do is make through the playoffs.

  • e jerry powell

    Yeah, about that...

I think the 49ers are just miffed enough about that wild-card spot that the Packers are in mortal danger.

  • It can't be any worse than last year. That was embarassing.

  • e jerry powell

Seems like the Packers used to have SF's number...
