The Astronaut Wives Club on ABC at 8:00pm ET.

Dateline on NBC at 9:00pm ET. New time slot. Both Aquarius and Hannibal have been bumped over to Saturday to finish out their runs. I have mixed feelings about this, Hannibal is a beautiful show and everyone on it is doing great work. But I’ve felt very disoriented by this season and what they’re trying to do with it. In particular, it seems like a lot of episodes have struggled to find a balance between the gorgeous visuals and actual storytelling and character development. I still don’t know why Chiyo was introduced, other than they had the rights to that part of the Hannibal story and figured they’d use it. Anyway, we’ll see how the Red Dragon portion of the season goes. On Saturday, anyway.

Wayward Pines on Fox at 9:00pm ET.

Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll on FX at 10:00pm ET. Series premiere. This new series is created by and stars Denis Leary. It centers around a fictional early 90’s rock band that broke up the day their album was released, and the story picks up 25 years later when Leary’s show daughter wants to get the band back together minus her dad.

Married on FX at 10:30pm ET. Second season premiere.

Genevieve Burgess appreciates sumptuous cinematography and indirect storytelling, but it’s hard to make those things work with serialized television without leaving something else behind.
