5 Shows After Dark: Just This. Lots and Lots of This.

By Genevieve Burgess | Miscellaneous | December 9, 2013 | Comments ()

Bonnie & Clyde on History, Lifetime, and A&E at 9:00pm ET. Part 2 of 2.

The Great Christmas Light Fight on ABC at 9:00pm ET. Series premiere. As best I can tell, this is a reality series that has grown out of those annual local-interest pieces on the best display of Christmas lights in the viewing area. Which is far more high-concept than most reality series, to be fair.

Six by Sondheim on HBO at 9:00pm ET. I’d recommend this for those of you who are into Sondheim, but I suspect you’ve already got the date circled and starred. In case you need extra motivation, here’s a full rundown of what’s going to be featured in this documentary.

Sleepy Hollow on Fox at 9:00pm ET.

The Sing-Off on NBC at 9:02pm ET. Two hour fourth season premiere. The episode is title “The Sing-Off is Back!” which, I believe, vastly overestimates the level of enthusiasm your average television viewer has for The Sing-Off.

Genevieve Burgess cannot imagine finding Christmas lights interesting for more than five whole minutes.

Why do you leave "Almost Human" off the list? It's delightfully fun pre-Sleepy Hollow viewing. Also, KARL URBAN.

    Sandwich please.

YES YES YES. This. So much of this. I do not know who Michael Ealy is, but he is one of the prettiest humans on planet Earth and there should be more of him. In everything. Especially Karl Urban sandwiches.
Also Karl Urban is better at comedy than I would have guessed. If people knew how funny this show is more of them would be watching it, I think.

  • Fabius_Maximus

Micheal Ealy was the lead in the terrific "Sleeper Cell".

Now I'm confused as to how truly gay I am. Sondheim versus something(s) cheesy campy.

And Christmas lights are bad for the environment. Houses with solar panels or windmills on the roof can have all the lights they can power.

    Bonnie and Clyde is meh.

  • Danar the Barbarian

I was hoping someone would have seen the first part so I could gauge whether or not to invest. Sounds like I should pass. I really like Holiday Granger on The Borgias, though.

Nothing says peace on earth, goodwill towards men, like depleting the earth's natural resources and annoying your neighbors. The electricity used in one of those light displays could probably power an entire hospital in a third world nation. Bah, humbug.

I'm sorry, but I'm a candle in the window, wreath on the door kind of decorator for Christmas.

You actually put something up for Christmas? Amazing!

When I was growing up in the 60's it was extremely unusual to see a house that didn't have outside decorations up; whole blocks of row homes and houses would be lit up from one end to the other.

Now, those houses are the anomaly; last time I went home I was astonished to see how few homes actually had lights, and it's no different in Florida. You have one home on the block that will have a killer display, several homes with modest ones and at least 50 percent have nothing at all.

  • BWeaves

Well, I don't technically put something up for Christmas. I'm a Jewish Atheist. But my husband is Christian and likes candles in the window and a wreath on the door, and I think it looks classy and understated.

However, I do live in Florida, and my neighbors do the wrapping the tree trunks of the palm trees with lights as high up as they can reach, so their front lawn looks like a gaggle of glow in the dark tube worms sifting for plankton. It doesn't exactly put me in the Christmas spirit, but I suddenly get a craving for sushi.

  • DeaconG

My neighbors like doing the "hanging icicles" off the edge of the roof...and leave them there year round so they don't have to bother taking them down.
