5 Shows After Dark: In Crime Drama Bingo, the Free Space is "Scarves"

"Hard Times: Lost on Long Island" on HBO at 9:00pm ET. This is a documentary following some families on Long Island who have been unemployed for long periods of time since the economic downturn, tracking them over a period of six months. If you are currently facing a similar period of un or under employment, this sounds far too depressing to actually watch.

"Masterchef" on Fox at 9:00pm ET.

"I Killed my BFF" on Bio at 10:00pm ET. First season finale. The title of this has always seemed alarmingly flippant to me. I associate the term "BFF" with young women or texting, not murder. I think when you murder someone, you lose all right to refer to them as "BFF" forever.

"Perception" on TNT at 10:00pm ET. Series premiere. Let's play crime drama bingo! I know we can already check off the squares for "non-cop partnered with cop", the "major mental illness treated as a quirk" box, and the "misunderstood genius" box just from the promos! All we need is "non-cop breaking the case while seasoned police detectives stand around flummoxed" and "evidence handling that would get the case thrown out of court" and we've got ourselves a winner! Or loser, depending on how you want to look at it.

Genevieve Burgess hates summer television just as much as it hates her.
