5 Shows After Dark: How Do I Hair?

By Genevieve Burgess | Miscellaneous | July 29, 2013 | Comments ()

“First Comes Love” on HBO at 9:00pm ET. This new documentary is an autobiographical look at Nina Davenport’s life as she prepares to become a mother as a single woman in her early 40s. The film will examine her relationships with her friends, her family, and a new potential partner she meets after conceiving a child through IVF. So, you know that Jennifer Lopez move, The Backup Plan? This is the real-life, far superior version of that.

“The Real Housewives of Orange County” on Bravo at 9:00pm ET. Hey! Did you still realize this was going on? I sure didn’t. I can tell, because there’s still wine left in my house and if I had realized this fact earlier I would have drunk until I forgot it.

“Under the Dome” on CBS at 10:00pm ET.

“The Writers’ Room” on Sundance Channel at 10:00pm ET. Series premiere. This is a new series where screenwriter Jim Rash will sit down with a variety of people involved in a specific show each week to discuss how the show gets made, what choices are going on behind the scenes, and what mistakes were made. The first episode deals with “Breaking Bad” and features several writers as well as Bryan Cranston and Vince Gilligan. Should be a great one. Shame that only, like, three of you get the Sundance Channel.

“Kentucky Bidders” on TruTV at 10:30pm ET.

Genevieve Burgess realizes the irony in self-medicating in the same fashion as the Real Housewives, but you can pry her Moscato from her cold, dead-drunk hands.

First Comes Love? Gotta be fake, right? Who gives a damn about a 40 year old woman having a baby alone. That hasn't been news in decades.

Plus, from HBO, I expect sex, not babies. Or swords. Or sex. Geez.

  • e jerry powell

    No such luck.

Nina Davenport is a good buddy of Liev Schreiber's, and the two filmed a project about an act of altruism associated with production of 2005's Everything is Illuminated. These types of projects are her wheelhouse.

Okay, I'll stop ruining everyone's guesses now. *slunks off in shame*

At first glance I totally thought the header pic was Courtney Stodden.

  • e jerry powell

    Scary, huh?

  • Fredo

The first episode of "The Writers' Room" is available for free download on iTunes.

  • kinoumenthe

“The Writers’ Room”. Seems too good to be true.
Also, I've been reading this column for a long while, and I only gathered a few weeks ago that one of the shows was supposed to be fake.

How did I not know that ?!

  • e jerry powell

Okay. Apologies to GB, but I'm blowing the whistle on this one.

I had to sit through SIX promos for the show whilst watching Dangerous Liaisons on Sundance over the weekend.

NOT FAKE. There will be an episode on "Parks & Rec," in fact, with Miss Poehler.

  • BiblioGlow

Dammit. Now I need to get the Sundance channel. And a television.

  • e jerry powell

Surely Comcast has a lot of the Sundance Channel original shows on the net somewhere. No need to go as far as getting a TV. I'm seriously considering getting rid of mine.

  • kinoumenthe

    Oh well…

    Yay !

  • Genevieve Burgess

It's only been since the beginning of July, but it's been popular enough that I'm keeping it up through the end of summer. I'm mostly doing it because pickings are kind of slim through the summer, so it's fun for me and pads out the listings.

Also I like to laugh at other people's pain. Because I'm evil.

  • kinoumenthe

Aah, I'm not crazy after all.

Thank you for assuaging my fears, Your Evilness… (though, I have to say, that's not very evil of you)

  • emmalita

Yes. I was wondering if she would switch strategies and fool us with a show we WISH was on tv.

  • Maguita NYC

Genevieve is like a contract with the Devil: You always read the fine print.

  • Maguita NYC

Anything is far superior to JLo as far as I'm concerned.

Also, why are you so cruel??? Why did you have to bring to our attention that the Whatever Housewives still exist?? Do you know how miserable it is to get drunk in this heat?

    Why Genevieve???!

  • e jerry powell

It's Andy Cohen who keeps reminding everyone that the Real Housewives exist. Especially bad that he keeps reminding Kathy Griffin that the Real Housewives still exist, because she won't shut the fuck up about it.

  • TCH

    Kentucky Bidder?

  • e jerry powell

    Kentucky Bidders what?

They're four episodes in. GB posted for the first episode.
