5 Shows After Dark: Going Into His Fourth Decade of Out-Crazying Everyone Else

By Genevieve Burgess | Miscellaneous | May 19, 2013 | Comments ()

"Call the Midwife" on PBS at 8:00pm ET.

"The 2013 Billboard Music Awards" on ABC at 8:00pm ET. Somebody must have sacrificed a medium-sized mammal to a dark and sinister deity somewhere, because Prince is performing at this industry heavy event. They haven't revealed what song he's playing, though, so the potential for shenanigans is high. I'd tell you to watch and see, but since the other performers include Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber twice, and The Band Perry, I can't advise you to watch the whole show in good conscience.

"The Apprentice" on NBC at 9:00pm ET. 13th season finale.

"Game of Thrones" on HBO at 9:00pm ET. Only two episodes left after tonight and they're taking next week off for Memorial day, which is especially good as the description seems to indicate that we'll be meeting a couple new characters tonight. Because this show doesn't have ENOUGH characters running around already.

"Mad Men" on AMC at 10:00pm ET.

Genevieve Burgess will probably be watching the Billboard awards so you can follow her twitter for when you should turn it on.

I'm betting that Prince is performing whatever that track is that he just released with Third Eye Girl. Timing, people, timing.

  • Nicolae

Discover has a beautifully done North America nature show on.

  • Sherry

Skipping a week before episode 9 of Game of Thrones??? After the one episode I could stay up late to watch and rewatch w/o having to set the alarm clock for the next morning??? RAEG knows no bounds!!!lksaslkdjfsadj fkdsjfkds

Memorial Day 2013 is May 27. NOBODY is burning a new episode the day before Memorial Day. It is The Law of Television. Even Bourdain is all repeats next Sunday.

  • firedmyass

Watch your whorish mouth about The Band Perry. Not saying that you have to like their music, but if you think they are in any way as comparably dismissable as Swifty and the Beibs, then you don't know shit about fuck.

  • ghisent

Well, you certainly have an unusual way of trying to get people to see your point. I LIKE SOMETHING YOU SHOULD TOO BECAUSE FUCK YOU YOU DUMB WHORE.

  • firedmyass

That was part of the, in retrospect, poorly-conveyed joke. I am Accidental Asshole.

  • Genevieve Burgess

All I know of The Band Perry is that "If I Die Young" song which was overplayed to the point of absurdity and also reminded me of a Nicholas Sparks novel. So, you have me there.

  • Salieri2

Ugh, "If I Die Young" made me want to strangle my radio.

  • firedmyass

Genevieve, on re-reading my post, I realize how pointed and harsh it may seem. It was not meant to cast personal aspersions upon ye. My apologies for insufficiently obvious jest.

  • clancys_daddy

Genevieve check You tube, you're not wrong. It's your basic bland band.

  • e jerry powell

Why would you want her to find videos of a bland band? It's not nice to do that to people.

  • Xtacle Steve

I wanna see Prince live at least once in my lifetime. Lucky me, he's coming into town at the end of the month. Unfortunately, they're $260. Womp...womp.

  • Anne At Large

The last time he came through town we got tickets for $80something a pop and they were worth every penny. If he ever plays somewhere you can afford, GO.

I will be nominally watching this thing now too just for him.

  • MomDoc

If you can swing it, go for it. I have seen Prince live 4 times now. I am watching this BillBoard show with little idea of who all of these new artists are just to watch him again.

  • A. Smith

I ended up watching it either not knowing nor caring who won or was nominated. I just waited to see Prince which just had to be the last thing of the show. Like always the man didn't disappoint.

  • MomDoc

He did not disappoint at all. I didn't think there was anything else you could do with "Let's Go Crazy" but I was wrong!
