5 Shows After Dark: I Assume Your Hopes are Appropriately Elevated

By Genevieve Burgess | Miscellaneous | March 28, 2013 | Comments ()

"The Vampire Diaries" on The CW at 8:00pm ET.

"Beauty and the Beast" on The CW at 9:00pm ET. I'm sure there is one hell of a thesis one could write by examining the popularity of shows that are aimed at adults based on fairytales that have started popping up the last couple of years as economic problems in the US have tightened their grip. I mean, maybe. I just came up with that off the top of my head so I have no clue if it would stand up to academic examination.

"Raising Hope" on Fox at 9:00pm ET. One hour third season finale on special night.

"Archer" on FX at 10:00pm ET.

"Scandal" on ABC at 10:02pm ET. I know I mentioned this show's habit of shooting people through beveled glass before, and it's typically when Oliva Pope and Friends are in the conference room. Last week, however, there was a shot of Olivia Pope through beveled glass WHILE SHE WAS STANDING OUTSIDE with the glass doors of the house BEHIND her. So either the camera guy really loves his beveled glass, or someone on that show read my previous rant and just decided to screw around with me a bit. I'm sure the truth is the version where I'm not actually important or influential.

Genevieve Burgess's book is now available on Kindle so that's what will be here this week.

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

  • DAMMITI missed "Raising Hope" last night because why would I be looking for it on THURSDAY!

Oh, GB, don't sell yourself so short.

  • I read a study that showed that the popularity of zombies and distopian books/movies/TV shows is inversely proportional to GDP. Sadly I can't remember WHERE I found that. But I'm pretty sure somebody has studied your adult fairytale theory and it's 100% true.

That and the camera shutter sound are kind of annoying.

The day they forget to add that to an episode will be a happy one.

The only way to make that scene with more glass would be to shoot it through a flying beveled whiskey glass a la Sam Raimi from the Quick and the Dead, missing Olivia's head and smashing into a full-length mirror which shatters to reveal a hidden hall of mirrors...all with beveled edges- while the background soundtrack featuring certain songs by Blondie, Annie Lennox, The Beatles and naturally, Phillip Glass.
