5 Shows After Dark: Rhimes is to Beveled Glass as Abrams is to Lens Flare

"Community" on NBC at 8:00pm ET.

"Parks and Recreation" on NBC at 9:00pm ET. Special double episode tonight! So exciting!

"Archer" on FX at 10:00pm ET.

"Suits" on USA at 10:00pm ET. Second season finale.

"Scandal" on ABC at 10:02 pm ET. So I've been catching up on this, and there's definitely some things I like about it and some that I'm less enthusiastic about. Like the same kind of magical Republicans who happens to hold exclusively liberal values that also afflicted "The Newsroom". The thing I really HATE though, is the constant shots through beveled glass even in places where there are no beveled glass doors to look through. I guess it looks all arty, with the doubling and whatnot, but they do it about ten times an episode, particularly when they're in the conference room, so it's just silly. But one time they did one of those shots when the characters were sitting at a diner and I was like "THERE ARE NO GLASS DOORS THERE, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?" So, I guess the moral of the story is not to shotgun series that have a tendency towards showy shots because you develop an irrational hatred for it.

Genevieve Burgess would very much like it if you bought her book. Please?

Ahem... Seriously though, come on, it's not right.

  • Mrs. Julien

I would have thought it was just right.

Fair enough, GB. I tune them out somehow, and manage to see only Olivia's wardrobe.

And pretty much nothing can make me change sides, but damn, Kerry Washington is still stunningly beautiful, and that suit in the header photo is giving me LIFE. Kerry Washington was put on this earth to stand around wearing expensive clothes and make me gag on her fabulousness.

Brb, just working through my stages of grief and rocking in the fetal position.

  • Genevieve Burgess

I'm so sorry I didn't make it clear: The first episode was on at the usual time, there was a special bonus episode on at 9.

  • BendinIntheWind

Eh, I'll get over it - this is what Hulu is for!

  • BendinIntheWind

(obviously we're starting here with "Anger" because "Shock" already happened when I turned on the tv and *yelped* at the sight of Leslie in her wedding dress, and "Denial" when I subsequently screamed "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!")

Also the SPEECHES! "You put your white hat on, or I put my white hat on"--no one knows what the white hat is--"and I will constantly use parallel structures in my sentences! And I will continue to do so until the end of the episode." And Kerry Washington's attempts to move every single muscle in her face at some point during every sentence get exhausting.

That being said, I consumed the first season in like one day.

  • JoannaRobinson

Um, white hats were historical gladiator attire, obviously, duh. Brush up on your history.

  • dilwazr

According to the internet, the white hat is a reference to Westerns.

The "white hat" thing bugs the sh*t out of me, too. Still love the show.

  • F'mal DeHyde

Yeah, she does have a strange way of chewing every word.

  • F'mal DeHyde

Love the show but the thing that really bothered me was the sound of the camera at every scene change. It took me a while to realize that there was nothing particularly noteworthy to see.

  • rn3

that sound/treatment also regularly freezes Hulu/Netflix when you're streaming it
