5 Shows After Dark
"The 54th Annual Grammy Awards" on CBS at 8:00pm ET. I'm sure there's a lot of you who have... thoughts on tonight's event so feel free to share. Highlights should include The Beach Boys performing for the first appearance in two decades, Tony Bennett, Glen Campbell, Adele, Diana Krall, the hastily thrown together Whitney Houston tribute featuring Jennifer Hudson, and whatever radioactive Lisa Frank for Barbie concoction Nicki Minaj is sure to be wearing. As someone who doesn't actively believe that the current crop of shitty pop music is a sign of the impending cultural apocalypse but rather just a continuation in a long line of popular music that is predominantly shitty, I might keep my distance. (Publisher's note: If you're interested in live commentary, or contributing to it, there's an interesting open thread going on during the telecast tonight over on Uproxx, in which a music executive will contribute along with many of the regular Uproxx contributors. Check it out. -- DR)
"Downton Abbey" on PBS at 9:00pm ET.
"The Walking Dead" on AMC at 9:00pm ET. Second season winter premiere.
"Comic Book Men" on AMC at 10:00pm ET. This is an unscripted series featuring Kevin Smith's comic shop in New Jersey. Smith himself won't be featured on the show exactly, but there's some kind of podcast element that weaves in with him in it? So, it's a reality series set in a comic book shop that tangentially involves Kevin Smith. I'm sure some of you will love it.
