5 Shows After Dark: They'll Just Rename Them for the Next Season

By Genevieve Burgess | Miscellaneous | February 11, 2013 | Comments ()

"Bones" on Fox at 8:00pm ET. Because the writers have not pissed off the fans enough by 1. Keeping Booth and Brennan apart for about a season longer than necessary and 2. Having their courtship be short and mostly off screen now they're going to give our stalwart atheist of a main character religion. From the previews they've shown Brennan having some sort of out of body experience that causes her to change her beliefs and I feel certain that if she did, she would immediately find a reasonable, scientific explanation for why out of body experiences happen and continue about her day. I don't know, maybe they're tired of having their character display consistent characterization and are just going to re-write the show, one individual at a time.

"Westminster Kennel Club Show: Night 1" on CNBC at 8:00pm ET. Tonight we get the Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting, and Herding Groups. I'm sure this matters to some of you who are aware of specific breeds and which groups they fall into. For the 90% of you who just like watching so you can go "Doggies! Whose a good boy? You're a good boy! Oh, girl! You're such a good girl, look at you!" I encourage you to pace yourself, tonight's doggie exhibition is three hours long.

"The BET Honors" on BET at 9:00pm ET.

"RuPaul's Drag Race" on Logo at 9:00pm ET.

"Bang Goes the Theory" on BBCA at 10:20pm ET. Series premiere. As usual with shows on the BBCA, this is an American premiere not a true premiere. This British series investigates the role that science plays in our everyday lives. Sort of a more applicable version of "Mythbusters" from what I can gather in five minutes of internet research. My Brit readers will correct me if I'm wrong.

Genevieve Burgess would very much like it if you bought her book. Please?

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

    I pretty much already watch "Bones" only to ogle the women (Emily is the hot Deschanel, as we all know), because the plots are beyond insipid, but I still don't like this turn of affairs.

    Oh, and I think I'm done with "The Following," too. So my Monday nights are now largely going to consist of attempting to drink myself into a coma. I almost succeeded last night, but I think it was just the boring FOX lineup.

  • The only times I'm heartbroken that I don't have cable are whenever the Dog Shows roll around. So many cuuuuuuute puppies!

    Yeah, if this isn't some kind of piggy-backing on that neurosurgeon who says he can "prove" he went to heaven, I'll...uh...actually watch an episode of Bones.

    " Tonight we get the Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting, and Herding Groups."

    Why does this sound like an episode of Game of Bones?

    The Hound = The Hound

    Toy = Tyrion

    Non-Sporting = Sansa

    Herding = Danny

    re:Bones, I believe Fox has been trying to give uber-scientist Dr. Brennan religion ever since they forced her to give birth in a manger. Stopped watching after that.

    Come to think of it, that's about when I gave up on the show. I enjoyed the first few seasons, then it just became a chore. Street artist Angela became a super computer genius, Amazonian Bones with awesome hand-to-hand skills became a robotic caricature of her former self, the boss (can't remember her name) got tigher and tighter clothes till the poor actress could barely move... then that stupid manger birth. GAH!

    Eh, the show's portrayal of Bones' religion position has always bugged me. Like, it's idiotic that she's so insulting and clueless about why someone would have religious beliefs. You can't practically escape that sort of thing within anthropology, even if you can kinda minimize it by focusing on phys anth. If she actually had the kinds of feelings she has, and were so intractable about them, she'd never have stuck with an anthro major.

    But actually going and giving her religion is exactly the wrong means of correcting the issue. It doesn't matter, though, I stopped watching when Zach became a serial killer, and I committed to never watching again when I found out they backpedaled from it.
