5 Shows After Dark

“Christmas at Belmont” on PBS at 8:00pm ET. I was really confused by this title because I tend to connect “Belmont” with that place where they race horses and so I wondered if they were dressing the horses up in little santa outfits and giving them presents of sugar cubes or was there some kind of Christmas finery pageant happening at Belmont? Then I remembered that that Belmont is up in New York and wouldn’t the horses be kind of cold? So finally I checked PBS’s website and it’s actually Belmont University down in Nashville and the very human music students there performing Christmas music in different musical ensembles. Makes a lot more sense now.

“Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts” on NFL Network at 8:00pm ET.

“National Geographic Special: Viking Apocalypse” on National Geographic Channel at 8:00pm ET. I’ll be honest, I listed this show because I just really wanted to type “Viking Apocalypse.” Now I have and I’m happy with my choice.

“The X Factor” on Fox at 8:00pm ET. Two hour first season finale. Because, you know, “The X Factor” has so many plot lines to wrap up that a double length episode is necessary. I kid. Sort of.

“The League” on FX at 10:00pm ET. One our third season finale.

Please remember to check your local listings for all times and channels.

I live in the town where Belmont Stakes is located and now I'm sad that they don't do anything that adorable.

But there are great mysteries to the X-Factor finale: will Chris "Young Homie" Rene rap? Will Astro refuse to perform because "America don't want him no more?" Will Nicole Scherzingher get booed again? Will LeRoy Bell once again miss his cues and fuck up the group numbers? And can they fit all 73 members of Paula's early-eliminated groups onstage without using a super-wide lens ala Lawrence of Arabia?
