5 Shows After Dark

“The Sing-Off” on NBC at 8:00pm ET. Good news! Tonight’s show will lead off with a performance of “Wake Up” by Arcade Fire! Bad News: The rest of the night is dedicated to ‘classic rock’ and ‘new country’ though two of the songs in the ‘classic rock’ section are from the 80s I’m thinking we’ve entered a world where any music that pre-dates “Nevermind” is considered classic rock which gives me a headache. Twisted Sister is not classic rock, y’all.

“Top Gear” on BBCA at 8:00pm ET. It says that this is the season premiere but it also says that it’s a “best of Top Gear” show so I think the “Top Gear” people are trying to cheat you out of a real season premiere. I’m sorry to have to tell you that since I know some of you are “Top Gear” fans, but really it’s best to know the truth about your relationship, right?

“Monday Night Football: Chicago Bears at Philadelphia Eagles” on ESPN at 8:30pm ET.

“Bored to Death” on HBO at 9:00pm ET.

“Hoarders” on A&E at 9:00pm ET.

Please remember to check your local listings for all times and channels.

Twisted Sister isn't classic anything except schlock. But that Herbert on guitar always made me laugh.

Ah nevermind. I'm thinking of Quiet Riot's guitarist. Resume lack of redeeming value.

I'd like to think that today's ep of HIMYM was inspired by Stephen Colbert.

I loved me some Twisted Sister back in the day, but, yeah, classic rock they are not.

You forgot to mention that they also covered Whitesnake. And by covered, I mean they rewrote it as a rap to better suit their group and I hated it. I also found it interesting that it was "new country" aka "completely crossover hits" - this is fine with me as I hate country. Though they did force me to listen to that god awful song "If I Die Young," which is one of two songs I'm appalled at lyrically (the second being "Pumped Up Kicks," which at least I enjoy despite it being about a school shooting).

The Sing Off was disappointing. I don't think I especially cared for ANY of the songs they did. Everything sounded flat, and most of the groups just proved that they can't get rock singing right without shrill and ear piercing shrieking.
