5 Shows After Dark: I Can't Wait Until People Stop Finding This Damn Boat Interesting

By Genevieve Burgess | Miscellaneous | October 7, 2012 | Comments ()

"Mythbusters" on Discovery at 8:00pm ET. 11th season premiere. The theme is "Titanic Survival" so maybe they'll address that thing about Rose on the door in the movie Titanic that everyone gets huffy about. I figured it was pretty obvious that if both of them tried to float on the door it would sink because even though there was space to accommodate both of them there wasn't enough whatever to keep them both above water. But, you know, maybe they'll focus on the ACTUAL Titanic and not shutting up the people who complain about Leonardo DiCaprio fake-freezing to death needlessly. Seriously. If that's your biggest problem with the movie then clearly we weren't watching the same film.

"Sunday Night Football: San Diego Chargers at New Orleans Saints" on CBS at 8:30pm ET.

"Curiosity" on Discovery at 9:00pm ET. Second season premiere. They're gonna crash a plane! For real!

"Dexter" on Showtime at 9:00pm ET. So how uncomfortable are the interactions between the siblings Morgan/former real life spouses so far this season? Is it more uncomfortable to watch them interact now that they're not boning than it was to watch them interact as siblings when you knew that they were boning?

"Upstairs/Downstairs" on PBS at 9:00pm ET. Second season premiere.

Genevieve Burgess Is thrilled to have worthwhile television to write about again. At least for the moment.

*Shrug* It's a non-controversial disaster that doesn't require backstory. What's not to like for Tv/movies?

Upstairs / Downstairs sucked. HOWEVER, Call The Midwife, which came on right before it, was very good. My only complaint was that the midwife's white gloves were still pristine white and clean when delivering the baby. I really, really want all Jenny's clothes from that show.

Would the name for the thing keeping the door on top of the water be surface tension? I remember hearing that term somewhere, and it seems to fit.

Actually, it is called buoyancy. As in, the ability to float. If the object displaces more mass of water than the mass of the object itself, it will float. A door is a good example, provided it is a wood door. However, put two people on it, it will no longer float.

I am resisting the pull of gaydom as much as possible, but I fear I'm going to get pulled into the black version of Steel Magnolias tonight. Maybe bamboo slivers under my fingernails and lots of Benadryl can work against the urge.
