5 Shows After Dark: This is Me, Pandering.

By Genevieve Burgess | Miscellaneous | October 25, 2012 | Comments ()

"Grey's Anatomy" on ABC at 9:00pm ET. So far this season's been really dark. I mean, so I hear. Whatever, I watch "Grey's Anatomy" and y'all can deal with it. Besides, no one's having sex with a ghost this season and even if they were, when "American Horror Story" did it everyone thought it was great.

"Parks and Recreation" at 9:30pm ET.

"Elementary" on CBS at 10:00pm ET. Anyone watching this? How's it going? I still think they missed a golden opportunity to cast Lucy Liu as Sherlock because Johnny Lee Miller seems a bit too spazzy to pull it off. And, of course, for a very small but vocal segment of the television viewing public, the whole series invites comparisons to the British edition of "updating Sherlock Holmes to modern times." But let's face it, those of you who have watched the British "Sherlock" aren't CBS's target audience because most of you probably don't qualify for Medicare.

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" on FX at 10:00pm ET.

"Misfits" on Logo at 10:00pm ET. Second season finale.

Genevieve Burgess Is thrilled to have worthwhile television to write about again. At least for the moment.

This isn't a rousing endorsement, I know, but my dad really likes Elementary (he also really likes Sherlock, for what it's worth). I don't watch either: Elementary because, regardless of my love for Jonny Lee Miller, I just don't like procedurals and Sherlock because that Sherlock is an asshole and after one episode I pretty much wanted to beat his stupid face in. Ugh, he's the worst.

    Dear Parks and Rec,

Tonight's surprise almost made choke to death on a piece of naan, and then cry a little whilst continuing to cough uncontrollably. It got a bit ugly up in here. But I still love you so very much! I would make adorable, insulin-resistant, raccoon-fearing Pawnee babies with you in a heartbeat.

  • Can you imagine how loudly I screamed at Parks and Rec tonight?

  • Bodhi

I've been watching it too, but only because I love JLM, not because I actually like the show

  • Quatermain

I've been watching 'Elementary' and I'd say Miller's Holmes is actually less spazzy and 'sperger-ridden than Cumberbatch's Holmes. That said, I enjoy both shows, albeit for different reasons.

    Love me some Misfits.

  • TriniSpin

I must thank Pajiba (for many things) for letting me know about "Misfits." I never would have heard about it otherwise, and now I cannot get enough. CANNOT. Obsession. It takes all that I am not to google it and find out what happens next.

  • Sean

Goddammit! You got my heart racing when I saw Misfits.

  • googergieger

    I haven't been watching Elementary.

I've been watching Elementary, and while it's another procedural with a hero who has some sort of behavioural/mental disorder, it's OK. Better the the Mentalist, or Numbers, not as good as Monk. And nowhere near Sherlock (which I don't class as a procedural).

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

It's only better than the Mentalist because CBS has to be a dick about not letting the big arc in. If they did more Red John, Mentalist would be kickass. I mean, Jane would still be a smug douche, but that's just his schtick.

  • John W

I've been watching Elementary and to be honest I don't see any difference between it and The Mentalist.

You could literally switch casts, keep the same scripts and you wouldn't notice a difference.
