5 Shows After Dark: I'm Going to Download that Modem Sound to Complete the Culture Immersion

Bones on Fox at 8:00pm ET. Temperance Brennan, a woman introduced to us a creature of pure rationality and intellectual insight, will be getting married in this episode. Not that they haven’t already committed terrible character assassination on what might have been a rather unusual and amazing woman already, but over/under on the number of times Bones acts completely counter to her stated personality in order to play up stereotypical “bride-zilla” or “wedding” hijinks?

Monday Night Football: Minnesota Vikings at NY Giants on ESPN at 8:40pm ET.

CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story on VH1 at 9:00pm ET. Original telefilm. God, I just want to watch this and remember how much I enjoyed the 90’s. Sure, the fashion kind of sucked but when everyone looked stupid, it was a lot harder to discern that you, personally, also looked stupid. And then there was that time I learned about blow-jobs from The Washington Post (absolutely true). Also the fact that I was somewhere between the ages of 3 and 13 and therefore didn’t have the kind of deeper understanding of the world that prevents one from creating nostalgic memories.

Hostages on CBS at 10:00pm ET.

Castle on ABC at 10:01pm ET.

Genevieve Burgess still knows all the words to a number of Spice Girls songs that should be embarrassing, but she refuses to be embarrassed by things that make her happy.

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

You obviously didn't know Neil Patrick Harris was going to wear an Indiana Jones costume tonight, otherwise you would have How I Met Your Mother on the list.

Awww, Left-Eye! Also, I love the 90s, I'm old enough to remember them quite well, being 8-17, good times. I think it was the only period of time you couldn't tell which girls were gay.

I gave up on Bones after they decided that they couldn't handle a far more harmless female Dr House (or Sheldon Cooper). She's just VERY logical, and there's nothing wrong with that! (No, that's not a defensive tone you detect. Shut up. You can't prove anything!)

My hangup with Bones (character-wise, at least-- anthropologically it's largely beyond help) was that they couldn't even really stick to the part where she's very logical or literal or whatever, they had to make her actively dumb or ignorant a lot of the time. Especially when religion entered into things, which is something anyone with an anthropology degree understands the general utility of, they increasingly just made her stupid, not logical.

  • That football game is going to be a disaster. It's going to be like watching the Keystone Kops play The Three Stooges. And not even the good Stooges, but the Stooges where they replaced Curley with Shemp.

And so it is. But if the Giants manage to be the least worst team in this duel of incompetence, my pumpkin lager will be downed in mild relief, rather than eye-rolling irritation.

  • As a Packers fan, there was nothing about that Vikings game I didn't like.

It did turn out to be pretty hilarious. Needed some Benny Hill music.

Since I buy Walking Dead on iTunes, my Monday nights are not as depressing as they clearly should be, given these offerings.
