5 Shows After Dark: Fight the Real Enemy

By Genevieve Burgess | Miscellaneous | October 14, 2012 | Comments ()

"Boardwalk Empire" on HBO at 9:00pm ET.

"Dexter" on Showtime at 9:00pm ET.

"Walking Dead" on AMC at 9:00pm ET. Third season premiere. Last season's finale gave me some hope for this season but then I remembered that 1. I don't get AMC anymore thanks to the pissing contest with Dish and 2. This show loves to give you five minutes of action and then spend hours on showing people talking to each other. So, y'all let me know how that goes.

"Homeland" on Showtime at 10:00pm ET.

"Secrets of Secret Societies" on Discovery at 10:00pm ET. My big problem with all the conspiracy theories about secret societies is that if they can't keep themselves a secret from the kind of people who become obsessed with secret societies (and the Discovery Channel), I don't really trust them to be competent enough to pull off these world changing conspiracies they're always accused of.

Genevieve Burgess Is thrilled to have worthwhile television to write about again. At least for the moment.

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

  • schrome

Hey you guys found Carl! Where was he?

  • Jezzer

Dammit, zombies, He's. Right. There! OUTSIDE! *rings dinner bell*

  • Bodhi

Somewhere other than in the goddamn house

  • aroorda

If it follows the comic, this season should be the darkest, most intense season yet. Not saying much, with last years black hole on the farm, but give it a shot. Their new camp is...well just watch.

  • Maguita NYC

Good news! The show's powers that be had announced that going forward they would be respecting the story line, and sticking very closely to the comics'!

EDIT: Sorry, but spoiler alert or no, it's WAY too early to be giving away that big a plot point. -tk

  • Maguita NYC

@tk, this was weird, your editing/changing my comment to suit ... what purpose? Never thought it would be done on Pajiba by one of the overlords. But was done often enough on CeleBitchy to suit Kaiser's Brangeloonie tendencies.

FYI, whatever I had written originally in my Spoiler Alert, is common knowledge for it has been revealed over a week ago on many popular gossip sites. And like GoT reviews, there are many on this site who read the Walking Dead comics and are quite aware of the story line. So giving away a spoiler, while notifying everyone before hand with a Spoiler Alert, is nothing but common on this site. So your picking and choosing of what is allowed to be Spoiled, and what is not, is somewhat surprising...

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

The thing with secret societies is clearly they have some kind of department for disinformation that runs around doing silly, obvious things to keep the conspiracy theorists occupied. Sure, they probably wouldn't be a threat either way, but this way they keep everyone's attention on the dudes in robes paddling each other in Latin and away from, like, that conspiracy thing they did? JFK, maybe?

  • BierceAmbrose

    Damn, he's on to us.

  • BierceAmbrose

Dammit. The first rule of secret societies is you don't use your real, fake name.

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

Do you use your fake real name instead?

  • BierceAmbrose

It's my Delta Tau Chi name. (So, both.)

Great uncle Ambrose got me in as a legacy. True fact. He was renown for his futile and stupid gestures. Getting me in might have been one of them.

  • Fredo

I don’t get AMC anymore thanks to the pissing contest with Dish

    You too?

I guess I'll hear how it goes via the grapevine of Twitter.

At least I won't get to see Lori throwing Epic Bitchfit about doing the laundry anymore.

  • Melissa D

    Oh you people. Tor-rent! Tor-RENT!

  • aroorda

People get pretty worked up about piracy round these parts.

  • Green Lantern

True, but decisions like the pissing contest between AMC and DishNetwork are the types of things that help people justify piracy. I find it disingenuous that networks make those types of decisions, yet still feel the right to complain.

  • John G.

whether it's right or not, this stupid feud will drive more people to torrent. They are shooting themselves in the foot.

  • Green Lantern

Oh John, I agree. Make no mistake.
