5 Shows After Dark: And His Wasted Heart Will Love You Until The Walkers Get To You

ALCS Game #2 on Fox at 8:00pm ET. Boston versus Detroit.

Sunday Night Football: Washington at Dallas on NBC at 8:20pm ET. God, this is going to be a competition to see who can shoot themselves in the foot first. Also, fun side effect of moving to the DC area, I now know more about Robert Griffith III’s knee than I ever wanted to or thought possible.

Homeland on Showtime at 9:00pm ET.

Revenge on ABC at 9:00pm ET.

The Walking Dead on AMC at 9:00pm ET. Fourth season premiere. This is a thing we’re still interested in, right? I know there’s a whole bunch of you that talk about how disappointing it is or how frustrating it is or whatever every season but you all seem to still be watching it so… here it is! You can all make ambivalent statements about your interest in this season or particular characters below. You’re all basically still watching for Darryl, right? Because I get that.

Genevieve Burgess needs Dez Bryant to overcome the efforts of his team and put up some decent numbers this week.

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

I'm also pleased that you talked about Washington football without using the name of the team. At least, I hope it was intentional.

  • latvianluck

In my house (close enough to DC for Washington to be considered the "local favorite"), they are referred to as The Foreskins.

I don't give a rip, but my husband is a lifelong Cowboys fan.

  • F'mal DeHyde

Daryl's an excellent character and I'd be stuck on him like velcro if there really was a zombie apocalypse but I really don't get the Norman Reedus lust. The guy just isn't attractive. But then I don't get Cumberbatch mania either.

  • Three_nineteen

Well, when he's on The Walking Dead, he usually looks more like this:

Being the most well-rounded character on the show doesn't hurt either.

  • F'mal DeHyde

    Not this season.

He needs to cut his hair...if Carol can still have that pixie-do, he can shorten up his strands...surely hair hanging in your face screws up your sightlines and peripheral vision, yes?

Genevieve, as a native of the greater DC area, I am so sorry that you now have to witness our populace's total obsession with the Washington football team. Honestly I think it borders on pathological sometimes.

  • Genevieve Burgess

I lived the first 12 years of my life inside the Beltway in PG, so I know that the football-team obsession is at least slightly more dignified than the panda-sex obsession. At least other cities have similar football cultures. I have never come across another city full of adults who have such in-depth knowledge of panda mating habits.

  • eag46

Good point. I don't know if other cities with pandas in their zoos are as obsessed about their reproductive cycles.

  • John W

    Does RGIII's knee twerk?

Does anyone else think that Mary Elizabeth Ellis and Rikki Lindhome look like sisters? It was weird watching them back to back in New Girl and The Mindy Project.

  • My fantasy football opponent has run his mouth pretty large this week, so I would like to see Jason Witten go nuts on the Redskins and turn what is an already embarrassing(for him)loss into a Agincourt-style humiliating rout.

Thumbs up on this piece's title, Genevieve. That scene never fails to make my black heart all warm and tingly, Tie in the zombie reference and I couldn't click fast enough.
I'm excited for The Walking Dead (Darryl), but I hope it doesn't suffer from my post-Breaking Bad mindset. Homeland just feels so blah to me after experiencing the BB perfection. I really want TWD to make Sundays exciting. No pressure.

  • Fredo

Walking Dead will piss me off with some of their clunkers but then they give you the kind of beauty ("Clear") that few shows do.

It's that in-between greatness and shit that it lives.

  • lowercase_ryan

You forgot: tons of other good shit.

    Boardwalk Empire
    Amazing Race
    Good Wife
    Master's of Sex

I feel like I'm still missing something.

  • Genevieve Burgess

Seriously dude: five slots. They don't all get mentioned every week.

  • Martin Holterman

Then why use up two whole slots for mysterious US sport things that no one else cares about?

  • Don't be that guy.

  • lowercase_ryan

Oh no, I wasn't being critical. I was commenting on the fact that Sunday nights are just jam packed right now.

  • Malware

I one of those people that The Walking Dead pisses off sometimes but I'm not sure what they would have to do to actually get me to stop watching.

Same thing for Homeland, no matter how much I have to complain about the screen time Kim Bauer... I mean, Dana Brody is getting, I'll still keep watching.

  • lowercase_ryan

TWD has a new showrunner this season and I think it's going to be great.

  • Genevieve, definitely for Darryl. And to see Carl get his when he wanders off one too many times.

  • idgiepug

Is Darryl Andrew Lincoln? Because, bitches, I saw him first in Love Actually and Teachers, which was one of the few pop culture representations of my profession that captured the quiet desperation and ass-kissery necessary to succeed in education.

Despite my love for him, I decided not to watch the Walking Dead because the DVR is already full of shows I can't watch because I'm ALWAYS grading papers.

  • Amy Ransom

Darryl is NOT played by Andrew Lincoln. Darryl is the guy with the crossbow, played by Norman Reedus. Andrew plays Rick.
