There Will Be a Second Season of 'Daredevil,' But the Showrunner Has Been Replaced (Again)

For those of you enjoying the “best superhero show you’ve ever seen” (a statement that can be made without a trace of hyperbole), you may be wondering what the future might hold for the series, especially if you’ve already binged through the entire first season. Will there be more episodes? Or will you have to content yourself with simply rewatching a masterful first and only season?

Don’t worry. THR is reporting that there will be a second season of Daredevil and it will debut on Netflix in 2016. However, the series’ showrunner, Steven DeKnight, will not be returning. He will instead be replaced by Doug Petrie (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy). DeKnight had replaced Drew Goddard when Goddard left to work on another Marvel feature). Word is, however, that Goddard had already outlined a second season before he departed.

Netflix is obviously still moving ahead with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. After their completed their runs, there is also a planned a The Defenders mini-series, in which all four characters will join forces.

We still don’t know when the other three series will debut (they are not expected in 2015), although Jessica Jones and Luke Cage have already been cast (Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter, respectively). What may end up happening is a kind of separate Marvel universe on Netflix that may operate like the movies, which means that Daredevil will return for a second season obviously before The Defenders miniseries.
