This wasn’t a direct shot at DC and the Warner Brothers (and the Spider-Man franchise), but it may as well have been, as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy took a shot at Hollywood’s new shared universe trend. Specifically, he thinks they’re doing it wrong, and not building a proper foundation before building these shared universes.
From Gunn’s FB page:
Gunn has every reason to be upset with the other studios for doing it poorly, too, because a glut of shared movie universes ultimately reflects poorly on the entire superhero movie genre. The more half-baked movies that spun out of Spider-man or Batman vs. Superman, the quicker comic-book movie fatigue sets in, and the less excited we might all be for Guardians of the Galaxy IV: The Search for Rocket Racoon. And I am really excited for that.
