'Agents of SHIELD' Spin-Off Back On, But No Longer a 'Spin-Off'

Last Spring, ABC had designs on an Agents of SHIELD pilot that took one of the show’s best characters, Adrianne Palicki’s Bobbi Morse (aka Mockingbird), and one of the show’s, uh, other characters, Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) and put them into their own show with their own sets of adventures. There was talk of a backdoor pilot for the series, but ABC ultimately scrapped it. ABC’s President, at the time, said, “We absolutely love those characters on ‘SHIELD. We think ‘SHIELD’ really hit its creative stride this year,” suggesting they didn’t want to let one of SHIELD’s biggest draws go to another show.

They’ve changed their mind. THR is reporting that the spin-off is back on, but that it’s not actually a spin-off anymore.

Titled Marvel’s Most Wanted, the drama was rumored to be in early development last pilot season and was originally conceived as an Agents of SHIELD spinoff featuring both characters. However, Marvel and ABC have instead picked up a pilot for what’s being described as a new take focusing on the same duo and their continuing adventures.

So, they’re taking two characters from SHIELD and giving them their own show, but it’s not a spin-off? It’s a “new take”?

OK. Sure!

Is this like that time when Parks and Recreation was supposed to be a spin-off of The Office but ended up being a new show? Because, if so, they should bring in Ron Swanson just for the hell of it.
