We Finally Have an Answer to Our 'Game of Thrones' Magical Teleporter Questions

Game of Thrones fans, you’re definitely not alone if you’ve spent pretty much every season so far wondering just how it is that Littlefinger manages to move across oceans and continents with the wave of a, well, finger, and how this season, every other character seems to have adopted his trick. When past characters have spent seasons winding their ways toward their destination, Littlefinger (and now Arya, Sansa— basically everyone) does it by what seems like magic. You might think the new means of transport may look something like this:

Or this:

Or maybe just one of these old-fashioned guys:

But it turns out the reason for this new speed is something much more simple: the writers stopped fucking caring.

Now, that’s not to say that they got lazy. And they’re also not making mistakes. Because if you’re aware of what you’re doing, it can’t rightly be called a mistake, can it? It’s a choice. And even if it may confuse you or piss you off, it’s hard to say it’s not useful. Because we all agree that this was the best of recent, if not all seasons, right? It sounds like at least some of that may have had to do with a lack of fucks given to details like planning out exactly how many months, days, and hours it would take to get from Braavos to Westeros. That’s not the part of this story we care about, and luckily, at least one writer/producer (and presumably a lot more) agrees with that sentiment.

I get that if you look closely, the rapid travel of some of these characters might undercut the tragedy and struggle of how stranded they were to that point. But ultimately, we have to ask, do we want or need every technicality addressed, especially when the details could potentially take up so much of our limited remaining time? That’s pretty much why web series spin-offs were invented. (You know, those things no one watched from The Office and UnREAL and like half the shows of the last decade?)

A couple weeks or months of Arya on a ship? Thank you, Game of Thrones writers, for sparing us that seasickness.
