The debate over the fate of Jon Snow rages on, with set pics suggesting he could return and cast members lining up to insist he’s dead. But let us not forget a fellow whose death seemed even less defined in the season five finale.

Remember this guy?

Stannis the Mannis, who won Rebecca’s devotion only to crush her when he set his only child and beloved daughter on fire because politics.

Well, the last we saw Stannis, he was wounded and at the feet of a revenge-seeking Brienne of Tarth. It’d seem that there’s no way the curmudgeonly Baratheon could get out of this alive, yet some were insisting this cutaway left it ambiguous.

Bad news for Stannis the Mannis holdouts: the dude is dead.

Vanity Fair reports the new book Game of Thrones: The Noble House of Westeros Seasons 1-5 affirms Stannis’s death not once, but twice. The description of his character concludes, “Stannis was killed outside of Winterfell by Brienne of Tarth, who wished to avenge Renly’s death.” Brienne’s description also offers this succinct summary: “Brienne killed Stannis.”

Meanwhile on Z Nation, Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin appears as himself, undead but still putting up with crazed fans.
