It is mid-October, so we are probably within about 6 months of the new season of Game of Thrones starting sometime this spring. Now seems as good a time as any to dump a bunch of behind the scenes photos and videos and agonize over what it all means. Or, you know, look at all the super pretty costumes because even when everything else is a bit of a disaster this is still one of the most beautiful shows on television. There will be spoilers in this post, and the comments, for the show, the books, possible future events, fan theories which are clearly right, fan theories which are clearly wrong, etc. If you complain about spoilers in the comments, you will be mocked mercilessly. On we go.
The vast majority of the leaks are coming from Spain, particularly via the Juego de Tronos fan page. Recently they shared a short video, via Canal+, of a scene being shot in Sevilla. The description names Areo Hotah, Ellaria Sand, Doran Martell, and Jaime Lannister, but I also caught a brief glimpse of a girl with long, curly blonde hair who could be Myrcella on one couch, and someone who looks like she could be Tyene Sand standing back against one wall.
In addition to this official video, Winter is Coming also got together some set photos from that day of shooting. We’ve got Jaime Lannister trying to pull off some Dornish-style clothing (Oberyn wore it better).
And Alexander Siddig done up as Doran Martell. He doesn’t look gouty at all! (I am ok with this change.)
We’ve also got this fan shot of Jaime’s procession as they perhaps prepare to enter Sunspear.
We’ve also got a few shots from King’s Landing that may be surprising, although it seems like security has been tighter in Croatia. Here’s our new High Sparrow:
But apparently Littlefinger is back in the city too.
Winter is Coming has some more details on the scene he was shooting, and speculation on what it may mean, but I’m not surprised. Last year the production diary said they were pulling down the Eyrie set.
This year, the HBO production site has mentioned nothing nearly as interesting, although apparently Gwendoline Christie is quite engrossed in a book about the flappers of the 1920’s so if you were hoping to strike up a conversation with her anytime soon, there’s a good opener.
However, for those wondering what big note we might end Season 5 on, there’s two photos from Osuna, Spain that should give some very clear indications:
A bullring with a green-screen large enough to project some kind of massive, flying creature on, and Daenerys, Hizdahr, and (possibly?) Tyrion getting ready to head to set. Someone’s got a flight to catch in 5.10, I think.
Big thanks to Winter is Coming for being an excellent source for all things Game of Thrones related.
