An Afternoon Comment Diversion / Dustin Rowles
One year ago this month, I introduced Pajiba’s very first comment diversion, hurriedly thrown together to fill some space one day when we had nothing to review. It received 465 comments, and the weekly Afternoon Comment diversion was born. So, to celebrate the one-year anniversary, I’d like to repeat the iPod shuffle game.
As I wrote then, the game is “simple and kind of cheesy, which is what makes it so enjoyable. Simply pull out your iPod, hit shuffle, and tell us what the first five songs are. No cheating. If you have Ashlee Simpson in the first five, you are obligated to confess to it. It’s the joy of anonymous public humiliation.”
Here are mine:
“Take the Power Back,” Rage Against the Machine.
“God Answers Back,” Clem Snide.
“It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue,” Boy Dylan.
“Back on my Feet,” Glen Phillips.
“Company in my Back,” Wilco.

Ok, I'm willing to admit that I'm losing my mind, but I really don't think that this is a just me thing. I swear that 20 minutes ago there was different comment diversion up, about ring tones. And I had magically been the first commenter.
Somehow it seems fitting that it disappeared.
Oh, and I don't own an ipod, so I can't play this game. See the previous (now non-existent) comment diversion for today to see why that is also fitting. :)

So the only way to get it out is to listen to it.

The incriminating thing about my iPod is that it's an archaic hand-me-down and thus does not hold nearly as much stuff as most of yours do. Thus, it's less likely to have stuff I wouldn't listen to. Then again, there are some that probably need to make way for new favorites. That said...
1) YYZ - Rush, Exit...Stage Left
2) Caramel - Suzanne Vega, Nine Objects Of Desire
3) Anonymous Skulls - Medeski, Martin & Wood, End of the World Party (Just In Case)
4) High Plains Drifter - The Beastie Boys, Paul's Boutique

iPod? I'm still trying to find a replacement needle for my phonograph so I can play the record collection I took years to acquire.
My favorite album is my original Broadway cast LP of "The Sound of Music" from 1959. On the cover in big letters it says, "THIS IS A NEW STEREOPHONIC RECORDING. WE GUARANTEE IT WILL NOT BECOME OBSOLETE IN THE FUTURE." I bought a CD of the same album decades later, and the cover is the same, but the disclaimer is missing, but then again, so are the scratches.

Okay, I don't have an ipod I have an mp3 player - a cheap one at that - which doesn't have a shuffle function. However, I remember the very first diversion (didn't comment for the reasons stated above) and for some reason I love to publicly humiliate myself here in Pajibaland. Therefore, I shall list five songs on my mp3 player that should probably get me banned from this site for eternity.
I'd like to say that I don't care what you think of the songs listed here because I feel no shame in music that personally moves me and is laughably uncool - it is what is, bitches.
So ridicule me if you must, tear up my Pajiba card, spit on the monitor and curse my name, write withering critisims and denouce me in the comments, or just laugh at me to yourselves.
Without further ado, five (including the embarrassing) songs:
1. Take Me to Heart - Quartflash

3. Look of Love, Pt. 1 - ABC

5. These Dreams - Heart
Nothing cool about these songs - just love from me. Bring it on.

Jen310, I could never judge someone who listens to Queen.
I fucking LOVE Queen.
For reals. And the chick from Heart showed up on an Alice in Chains album once, so you get a pass on that too.
ABC however... that's a tough pill to swallow.

Though this isn't entirely accurate. I have an audiobook on my iPod that didn't load properly and is in the music section instead of the audiobook. So technically, "Melting Stones, Chapter 19 Track C" written by Tamora Pierce (and preformed by a whole bunch of people I'm really not about to look up) is the first track and the fourth and fifth are other parts of the book. But what fun is a cd malfunction/my incompetence with iPods in a comment diversion?

Damn, I've never even listened to half these songs. But I took this opportunity to do so, and they're okay. And I like just about anything by my precious Rilo Kiley.
