An Afternoon Comment Diversion / Dustin Rowles

Today’s comment diversion is flat-out silly and it has nothing really to do with a pop-culture site. But, it’s summer, and there are only a few inspirations running on the telly right now. So, I’ll admit that — when suffering from televised-flicker withdrawal — I have watched the two food shows currently airing in primetime now, “Hell’s Kitchen” and “Top Chef,” the latter of which is one of the TV Whore’s favorites (and a topic of discussion in Constance’s first book review). Personally, I don’t see a lot of appeal in shows that feature food that I can’t eat, but I kind of dig that Gordon Ramsay (especially in the few episodes of “Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares” I’ve managed to catch on BBC) and there’s a certain viewing comfort to “Top Chef.”
So, how well will the food topic lend itself to a comment diversion? Beats me. But, since we all eat (except for certain starletards), it is something we should all be able to discuss. Besides, you can learn a lot about a person by his or her favorite foods — it can reveal a lot about one’s background, e.g., when middle-class folks let slip that their favorite comfort foods come in a microwavable pouch — that’s a former latchkey kid for you. Steak-ums: Mmmm.
So, the question is this: You’ve been put on death row. You get one last meal before you die. What is it?
I’ll start us off (and maybe end us, too — if this diversion sinks like I imagine): Annie’s Mac n’ Cheese with twice the recommended amount of butter (fuck it, it’s my last meal); those little G&W microwavable pizzas I used to get when I was a kid for $.49; and a steak burrito from Anna’s Taqueria. To drink: A pitcher of Sangria from Dali, a fine Tapas restaurant in Cambridge.
For dessert: Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup cereal. Yes — the trailer trash runs deep in me.
Bring on the chair, bitches.

i'd have to go with a plentiful helping of chicken tikka masala with some naan and vegetable pakoras (so the whole room can smell me when they turn on the juice for the electric chair).
follow that with a caterpillar roll and some eel nigiri.
wash it down with some woodford reserve and coke.
then finish with a cookie dough blizzard (extra cookie dough, please) with hot fudge mixed in.
