I Hate To Admit It … But I Did Like Her in That Movie

An Afternoon Comment Diversion / Dustin Rowles

Comment Diversions | June 18, 2008 | Comments (235)

Today’s comment diversion comes by way of long-time Eloquent, greer, who offers the converse to the Rocky and Bullwinkle Syndrome diversion a couple of weeks ago: Name an actor or actress that you normally loathe, but that you actually kind of dig in one particular role. Greer offers David Spade in Tommy Boy and Daryl Hannah in Kill Bill.

As for myself, though it pains me to do so, I submit Rainbow Killer in Knocked Up.

Have at it.

Easily, Chris Tucker in Fifth Element.

Kirsten Marshmallow Face Dunst.
Eternal Sunshine.

Kevin Costner in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Any other movie, he makes my retinas bleed.

Posted by: justamanda at June 18, 2008 2:49 PM

Oddly fitting, Jennifer Lopez in Out of Sight. I really can't stand most of her movies, but it was so good not even JLo could ruin it. Same with Julia Roberts in Ocean's Eleven. Steven Soderbergh is good at dealing with what would normally be consider cinematic poison.

Posted by: Mike R. at June 18, 2008 2:50 PM

Juliette Lewis in Natural Born Killers and From Dusk til Dawn. I think she's clinically retarded, I want to slap her in the face with a wet salmon until she shits sushi, but goddamn if she good in both of those roles.

Jennifer Lopez in Jersey Girl. It managed to break through all the Bennifer bullshit, and she was wonderful for all of the fifteen minutes of screen time. And then the entire movie promptly murderized Kevin Smith's career.

Posted by: insertclevernamehere at June 18, 2008 2:51 PM

Meagan Good in Brick.

Posted by: jM at June 18, 2008 2:52 PM

Richard Gere in Chicago. Normally I just can't stand his on-screen persona, but he always looks like he's having so much fun when he's dancing, and he was such a magnificent bastard in the movie.

Posted by: twig at June 18, 2008 2:54 PM

Gwyneth Paltrow in Iron Man.

Posted by: susquehana at June 18, 2008 2:54 PM

Nicole Kidman in Practical Magic.

Strangely enough, Sandra Bullock in Practical Magic.

Leonardo DiCaprio in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. Man, he plays a good retard!

Posted by: boo at June 18, 2008 2:55 PM

Shia LaBeouf in Transformers.

Posted by: jM at June 18, 2008 2:56 PM

Renee Zellweger in Empire Records. And Jerry Maguire (suck it, I like that movie).

Nicole Kidman in To Die For.

Mel Gibson in Maverick. And Lethal Weapon.

Posted by: Julie at June 18, 2008 2:56 PM

Julie Benz in "Jawbreaker".

I'm a Whedon dork and I always HATED her as Darla on "Buffy" and "Angel". But she is so gleefully evil in that movie that I just have to love her.

Posted by: courtney at June 18, 2008 2:57 PM

Renee Zellwegger in...
Drew Barrymore in...
Rob Schneider in...
Dane Cook in...

I can't do it! I hate them with every fiber of my soul! You can't make me like them!

Posted by: branded at June 18, 2008 2:58 PM

OH! and Tom "Crazy Eyes" Cruise in Collateral.

Posted by: boo at June 18, 2008 2:58 PM

Renee Zellwegger in Cinderella Man (eat it, Paddy!)

Posted by: socalledonlycousins at June 18, 2008 2:59 PM

Adam Sandler - Punch Drunk Love. I've not seen him in any other movie, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to. But I loved this movie, and I thought he was brilliant.

Likewise, Mike Myers (who I can't stand the sight of these days) made one good movie as far as I can tell - So I Married an Axe Murderer.

Posted by: Cindy at June 18, 2008 2:59 PM

Ben Stiller in Zoolander. You heard me. I frakkin' love that movie.

Posted by: katy at June 18, 2008 3:00 PM

Samuel L Jackson in Pulp Fiction
This was the last truly good character he breathed life into, and every other character since then seems to be a caricature of this one. Even his real life persona has become a pseudo Jules Winnfield.

Posted by: the cox at June 18, 2008 3:01 PM

I usually can't stand Evan Rachel Wood...she annoys me and she usually looks very trashy to me. But, I LOVE Across the Universe and even enjoy her performance and her singing in said film.

Posted by: griffimx at June 18, 2008 3:01 PM

I agree boo, Cruise was actually really good in that, even though I found the movie itself to be kinda meh.
and I'll go ahead and state the obvious: Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting.

Posted by: s. pisaster at June 18, 2008 3:01 PM

I also like old Crazy Eyes in Minority Report.

Posted by: katy at June 18, 2008 3:03 PM

Nicholas Cage in Moonstruck. The farcical over-the-top lines and character actually suited him.

Posted by: Lilly at June 18, 2008 3:03 PM

Julia Roberts in The Pelican Brief. Normally I just don't like her, but she did a pretty solid job in that one.

Posted by: Todd at June 18, 2008 3:04 PM

Cameron Diaz in Any Given Sunday. It was the only real dramatic role of hers that impressed me.

Sarah Jessica Parker in The Family Stone. I was afraid she was gonna Carrie Bradshaw her way through the movie, but she turned out to be the only decent human being in that shit pile of a film. Even Rachel McAdams was an asshole, and I adore her.

Meg Ryan in When a Man Loves a Woman. I never understood the hype over her comedies, but she was good when it came to drama.

Posted by: Brie at June 18, 2008 3:04 PM

Kirsten Dunst in Bring It On. I loooove that stupid movie and she plays that character with such goofy enthusiasm that it makes her dumbass seem tolerable.

Posted by: NotBlonde at June 18, 2008 3:04 PM

Sarah Michelle Geller - Cruel Intentions

Posted by: JTate at June 18, 2008 3:05 PM

Jessica Alba in Camp Nowhere. Yeah, that's right.

Posted by: railed at June 18, 2008 3:05 PM

Sharon Stone in Casino.

She rocked that movie and normally I want to punch her in the face.

Posted by: AmyRose at June 18, 2008 3:05 PM

Nicholas Cage in "Raising Arizona." His mumbling and receding hairline are appropriate for that role and that role alone. I hate you and your stupid hair plugs! Get out of my action flicks!

Posted by: HB at June 18, 2008 3:06 PM

Jack Black - High Fidelity

oddly enough I am having a hard time coming up with another one...the co-worker and "co-worker" keep naming off actor and actresses that are usually disliked by many, and I actually don't have problems with them (for example Kirsten Dunst)

abd come to think of it, I don't even dislike Jack Black personally, I just don't usually like his movie choices....

hmmmmmm, I need to become more bitchy apparently

what can I say, it is finally sunny out here, the Celtics kicked some ass last night and the boss is gone from the office for the day

I am in a good mood :)

Posted by: Bethy at June 18, 2008 3:08 PM

I haaaaaaa...(deep breath)...aaaaaaate Taye Diggs but I liked him in The Way of the Gun. And railed, don't you dare remind me that Alba was in my Camp Nowhere.

Posted by: jM at June 18, 2008 3:10 PM

Ethan Hawke in "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead". If you can even register on the screen with the mighty PSH, you done good. [I actually have no beef with Hawke, but he gets a lot of shit on Pajiba, so I included him]

Nicole Kidman in "To Die For" - absolutely brilliant.

Cameron Diaz in "In Her Shoes" (a movie I wasn't crazy about, but I thought she did a nice job and was a rather sympathetic character)

Ben Stiller in "Heavyweights"

Tom Cruise: Just about every damn thing he's been in

Posted by: samantha t at June 18, 2008 3:10 PM

I have actually come up with a combo platter:
Donnie Wahlberg and Haley Joel Osment both in The Sixth Sense

Posted by: branded at June 18, 2008 3:11 PM

again, Obvious, because he was playing himself:
Keanu Reeves in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

And also ScarJo...Id make out with her, but she can't act. But I liked her in The Man Who Wasn't There.

Eddie Murphy: loved the man back in the day, but its all been shit lately. Then I saw Dreamgirls and fell in love all over again.

Ben Affleck-I hate him, but he cracked me up in Good Will hunting. He should only be allowed roles where he has to wear a tracksuit.

Ooh, and how about actors you LOVE but almost had to stop because of a particularly bad role.
Mine would be Clare Danes in R+J. She murdered it. She's fabulous, but I hope she's gotten better at doing Shakespeare.

Posted by: frogirl1978 at June 18, 2008 3:11 PM

Bill Paxton and Chloe Sevigny in Big Love. I can't stand either one of them outside those roles. Chloe just seems boring, but she's really moving as Nicki. And Bill Paxton cannot cannot cannot act, but his casting as the clueless and often emotionless Bill Henrickson is spot-on perfect. I'm not convinced that he's good in the role--I'm not sure he's actually doing much--but it's the exact right match between actor and role.

Posted by: KateNonymous at June 18, 2008 3:12 PM

I would just like to take this time to announce that I will not be submitting my name to the Eloquent Eloquence academy this week.

I feel that greer and the Pajiban powers that be have not given me the material in this comment diversion to warrant a Top Ten-worthy comment, and I do not wish to potentially take away an opportunity from a commenter who was given such materials.

That is all.

Oh, and when you do announce my name, it's pronounced "meaux," bitches.

Posted by: MO at June 18, 2008 3:12 PM

Nicholas Cage in Adaptation and The Weather Man. I hate his asshole face.

Posted by: Maxwell at June 18, 2008 3:12 PM

And I know Big Love isn't a movie, but since it's on HBO, it isn't TV either. At least that's what HBO tells me.

Posted by: KateNonymous at June 18, 2008 3:13 PM

I know it's hard to get past Cruise's complete crazerinoness, but lest we forget:

Born on the 4th of July
A Few Good Men
Collateral
Mission Impossible I and III (not II. NEVER II)
Minority Report

All of these are not only good movies, but movies he was good in. The man may be completely bonkers, but he's put out some good stuff.

And of course, there's ALWAYS Top Gun...

Posted by: TK at June 18, 2008 3:14 PM

Oh man, there's a lot of these:

Bronson Pinchot in "True Romance"
Sharon Stone in "Casino"
Nicole Kidman in "Dogtown"
Tom Cruise in "Magnolia"
Cameron Diaz in "Being John Malkovich"

aaaand the end-all be-all I-can't-believe-I'm-even-saying-his-name-in-a-positive-light:

Adam Sandler in "Punch-Drunk Love"

Posted by: Crash at June 18, 2008 3:14 PM

Brittany Murphy in Clueless.

"You're a virgin, who can't drive," is possibly one of the greatest lines ever uttered in the history of film - nay, of humanity.

Posted by: KiwiBrownn at June 18, 2008 3:15 PM

Drew Barrymore in E.T.
is that cheating?

or

Sara Jessica Parker in Striking Distance

Posted by: danR at June 18, 2008 3:15 PM

Boo, I took a theater course in college with this esteemed British teacher, who couldn't stand "modern, young actors who have no feel for the craft." But he did mention there was one he liked: Leonardo DiCaprio in Gilbert Grape. The teacher then asked us (dead serious) "Is Mr. DiCaprio retarded in real life?" Some said yes, others said no.

Posted by: Brie at June 18, 2008 3:16 PM

Cameron Diaz in "Vanilla Sky" - that bitch had crazy down pat

Crazypants Cruise in "War of the Worlds"

Owen Wilson in "Royal Tenenbaums" - sweet Moses, I hate that guy, but ala Diaz, he nailed nutjob in that one.

Verne Troyer in "Surreal Life" - I thought that cat was a one trick pony, but to see him balancing in that electro-scooter while drunk. naked, and pissing on the floor? Newfound respect!

Posted by: Skittimus Maximus at June 18, 2008 3:19 PM

WORD TK. Tom Cruise may be The Crazy, but I almost always like his movies.

Posted by: Julie at June 18, 2008 3:20 PM

David Schwimmer in Band Of Brothers.

I couldn't stand his character. What an ass, which leads me to believe that minus my dislike for David Schwimmer, he did do a good job in portraying Cpt. Sobel.

Posted by: Jax at June 18, 2008 3:21 PM

Brie:

Oh wait, I forgot Val Kilmer in "Tombstone" and James Van Der Beek in "The Rules of Attraction"

Posted by: Crash at June 18, 2008 3:21 PM

Kevin Costner in The Upside of Anger.
I normally find myself flinching throughout his movies, not only because he's one of the worst actors ever, but because he consistently botches any accent he's given. (Which is why, justamanda, with respect, I must say: Really? You like him in that "Robin Hood, Prince of Fake Accents That Are So Bad, You Can Barely Tell They're Supposed to Be Vaguely British"?). Anyway, my justification for my being pleasantly surprised by Kevin Costner's performance in TUOA, is simply that he was cast as a lazy, more or less stupid, habitually drunk former baseball player, and the role fits him to a tee with a capital T. He's actually funny and almost endearing in that movie. I swear.

Posted by: sleepygaby at June 18, 2008 3:23 PM

Okay, finally thought of one: Jim Carrey in Man on the Moon. I think that's the first movie I saw him in where I didn't think, "That might have been an okay movie, if it wasn't for Jim Carrey."

Posted by: MO at June 18, 2008 3:24 PM

Nicholas Cage in Raising Arizona.

Posted by: Sarah C at June 18, 2008 3:25 PM

SJP in LA Story, though I think she only gets a pass from me because of my residual love of that film and anything associated with it. She plays a vapid, twiggy, superficial waif brilliantly in that.

And then spent how many seasons regurgitating it for us on SaTC? Yeah, I went there.

Posted by: Tammy at June 18, 2008 3:25 PM

Mickey Rourke in Angel Heart; Leonardo DiCaprio in The Departed.

Posted by: Emran at June 18, 2008 3:25 PM

Kirsten Dunst seems to be getting a lot of mention, and I'm going to add to it, she was hilarious in Drop Dead Gorgeous. Even Denise Richards was decent in that movie.

Posted by: swimgrrl at June 18, 2008 3:26 PM

Cameron Diaz in She's The One. Only role in which I can stand the sight of her.

Will Ferrell in Anchorman and Stranger than Fiction.

Posted by: Nicole at June 18, 2008 3:27 PM

My dad still refers to Leo DiCaprio as "The Smurf" because of his role in Titanic.

And MO? That was awesome.

Posted by: JTate at June 18, 2008 3:27 PM

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence both annoy me in most cases, but damned if I don't love Bad Boys 2. Dammit.

Posted by: MG at June 18, 2008 3:27 PM

Odd how DiCaprio gets props for the Departed & Retarded within mere posts of each other...

Posted by: Skittimus Maximus at June 18, 2008 3:27 PM

Tom Arnold in True Lies. It is Tom, right? Not Tim? Not sure, because Roseanne's ex was never entertaining to me in any forum, but in that movie he pulled it off and actually seemed likable. At least his character didn't trick his wife into thinking she was about to be raped because he thought it would be so exciting. Asshat.

Posted by: DeadBessie at June 18, 2008 3:28 PM

Tim Allen in Galaxy Motherfucking Quest.

"It's a ROCK! It doesn't have any vulnerable spots!

Posted by: jM at June 18, 2008 3:28 PM

I'll second Cameron Diaz in Vanilla Sky.

Lindsay Lohan in a lot of things, actually. I think she's legitimately good in Freaky Friday and Mean Girls, but she wasn't even the most embarrassing part of I Know Who Killed Me. She was actually... not half bad?

I thought Anne Hathaway was just as good as the other three in Brokeback.

I also tend to think Tom Cruise is at least decent in each of his films. He may be crazy, but he's famous for a reason. ::shrugs::

I'll finally add Jennifer Aniston in The Break-Up, a movie think is totally underrated.

I also remember Brittany Murphy being pretty good in Don't Say a Word, but that film was a long time ago.

Posted by: Ben at June 18, 2008 3:29 PM

Jim Carrey in the Truman Show

Hate Jim Carrey and his freakishly stretchy face. But I love him in that movie because he doesn't rely so much on the facial acrobatics.

Posted by: clarkie at June 18, 2008 3:29 PM

And, whatever, boo. brie is right about Meg Ryan and dramatic roles.
Unless you're dying of laughter over the SJP thing. In which case, I'm with you.

Posted by: sleepygaby at June 18, 2008 3:29 PM

Costner in "Tin Cup." Easygoing charm and just-this-side-of-40 good looks to spare.

Cage in "Raising Arizona"

Cher, again, in just about everything

Posted by: samantha t at June 18, 2008 3:30 PM

MO I second Man on the Moon, and raise you Eternal Sunshine. He is great, as long as he isn't doing "comedy".

Same goes for Adam Sandler and Robin Williams, who I don't mind as a psychopath, it's very believable.

Posted by: k at June 18, 2008 3:32 PM

Nope, sleepygaby, it was the DiCaprio retard comment that had me scraping myself off the floor...

I could give two shits about Meg Ryan or SJP.

Posted by: boo at June 18, 2008 3:32 PM

Mine would have to be Jim Carrey in "The Truman Show" and also Will Farrell in "Stanger than Fiction". Something about those two asshat comedians playing simple, lonely men reaching for something beyond their normal lives just makes me bawl like a baby.

Posted by: VentureSister at June 18, 2008 3:33 PM

Mandy Moore in "Saved."

Actually, also Mac Culkin in "Saved."

Lindsay Lohan in "The Parent Trap."

Posted by: elizabeth at June 18, 2008 3:33 PM

Nicholas Cage in Peggy Sue Got Married. His character was ridiculous but in a good way.

Posted by: Kristin at June 18, 2008 3:34 PM

swimgrrl I secretly LOVE Drop Dead Gorgeous and Dunst is actually good in it. Plus, Denise Richards gets blown up!

Posted by: jM at June 18, 2008 3:35 PM

Elizabeth, I'll see your Lohan in Parent Trap and raise you a Mean Girls...she used to be so cute and charming.

Posted by: Julie at June 18, 2008 3:36 PM

I'll add my vote for Will Ferrell in Stranger Than Fiction. I went to see that one in the theater because my love for Emma Thompson outshone my loathing of Ferrell. I expected him to be the worst part a good movie, and I was pleasantly surprised when he turned out to be a good part of a good movie.

Posted by: Wonkey the Monkey at June 18, 2008 3:38 PM

Speaking of Bill Paxton:

Bill Paxton as Chet in Weird Science and Hudson in Aliens.

Posted by: TL at June 18, 2008 3:39 PM

Anna Faris in Brokeback Mountain. Honestly? How did she even get in that movie? It boggles the mind. BOGGLES I SAY!

Posted by: Jeremy at June 18, 2008 3:42 PM

Drew Barrymore in The Wedding Singer.

Posted by: David at June 18, 2008 3:43 PM

I actually really like Bill Paxton, but if we're adding to his list I'm including his role as Simon in True Lies (and props to whoever said it earlier). His lying, womanizing, pants peeing car salesman is HYSTERICAL.

Posted by: Julie at June 18, 2008 3:44 PM

Ha Sleepygaby you are perfectly right in questionning my like of Kevin Costner in Prince of Thieves. But I guess it's because i was about 12 when it came out and he got me that encredibly acted scene when he throws himself on the beach. You're right, what a bad movie...

Posted by: justamanda at June 18, 2008 3:44 PM

Kevin Costner in Silverado.

MO in this thread.

Posted by: phquaryn at June 18, 2008 3:46 PM

John Travolta in 'Battlefield Earth'

Kidding! In 'Saturday Night Fever'.

Tom Cruise in 'Magnolia'. Though I still have to look away when he does that rabid-hamster expression of his.

Posted by: Tarn at June 18, 2008 3:46 PM

Oh, yeah, my old Pajiba-fueled flame, but Bill Pullman in 'Zero Effect.' I have nothing against the man, but never found him more than a placeholder and he was acting the shit out of that movie.

Tom Cruise can't possibly count. Whatever his real life is like, he's done some amazing roles. My personal favorite - Magnolia. When he's being interviewed and she turns the tables on him, it shocked me right out of my shoes.

Posted by: twig at June 18, 2008 3:47 PM

jM See the Underappreciated Gems archive. There's no reason to secretly love Drop Dead Gorgeous.

Posted by: katy at June 18, 2008 3:48 PM

Cameron Diaz in Shrek, mostly because it is not here on screen,

and SJP in Mars Attacks, because her head and a chihuahua's head get switched. A great look for her.

Posted by: dammitjanet at June 18, 2008 3:49 PM

Reasons I don't hate Sandra Bullock:
1) "Demolition Man," although even then she makes me cringe a little. Yuck.

Reasons I do hate Sandra Bullock:
1)While You Were Sleeping
2)Hope Floats
3)Forces of Nature (bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch!)
4)Miss Congeniality
5)Murder by Numbers
6)Ya-Ya Sisterhood of the Travelling....um..oops
7)Two Weeks Notice

And those are just the movies I actually had to watch!

Posted by: elizabeth at June 18, 2008 3:51 PM

Mo, that rocked my pants off.

Posted by: Vee at June 18, 2008 3:53 PM

k, I'm a little ashamed to admit I didn't watch all of Eternal Sunshine. It didn't grab me, but I do intend to give it another try before I'm forced to give up my Pajiba cred card.

JTate, thanks--couldn't resist, especially in light of Dustin's startling confession of a moment of non-hatred!

Posted by: MO at June 18, 2008 3:55 PM

Squashy face Renee Zellewegger (sp?) in Bridget Jones' Diary (but NOT the second one)- every time she sings Celine Dion over vodka and feels like an idiot in front of hot guys I feel like I'm looking at myself in the television screen.

But she annoys me to great ends in life and everything else.

Posted by: Sarah at June 18, 2008 3:58 PM

I actually loved Matthew McConau-heyyyyy in "The Wedding Planner." He was all breezy, beautiful, cover girl in it, but it worked for me. Back then..when he knew where BOTH his flip-flops were....

Posted by: pamela at June 18, 2008 3:59 PM

phquaryn, you mean you've hated me all along?!! *sniff*

Posted by: MO at June 18, 2008 3:59 PM

Sarah Jessica Parker in Girls Just Want to Have Fun. "I love to dance."
Actually, anybody in "Girls Just Want To Have Fun". Shannen Doherty. Johnathan Silverman, Helen Hunt. That hot guy I thought was the bomb that no one ever heard from again, IMBD claims his name is Lee Montgomery but who knows for sure? I actually cannot stand any of those people in anything except Girls Just Want to Have Fun.

J.Lo in An Unfinished Life.

Posted by: tinksgirl at June 18, 2008 4:04 PM

I hate to admit that I even like this MOVIE, considering I'm a devoted reader here. But here goes.

Patrick Swayze. ROADHOUSE.

There. I said it.

And, oh yeah, here's another since I'm confessing my movie sins.

Andrew Dice Clay - The Adventures of Ford Fairlane.

I was in high school and I thought the movie was hilarious.

Don't judge me.

Posted by: JH at June 18, 2008 4:05 PM

I'm glad to crack you up, Boo. Prof. Elliot was good people.

I think True Lies should be one of those under appreciated flicks on Pajiba.

Also agree w/the Tom Cruise thing. As much as his douchebag behavior bothers me, he really is one of the best actors I've ever seen. A Few Good Men, Minority Report, Jerry Maguire... he just has the talent; there's no denying that.

I can't believe someone remembered Heavyweights. That's one of my secret shames!

Posted by: Brie at June 18, 2008 4:06 PM

Robin Williams in Aladdin.
Halle Berry in Monster's Ball.
Hugh Grant in About a Boy.
Josh Hartnett in The Faculty.

That should cover it.

Normally I am just not a fan of his style of humor, but I loved Will Ferrell in Stranger Than Fiction.

Posted by: libraryliz at June 18, 2008 4:11 PM

-Nicolas Cage: Matchstick Men. Don't know why, but I loved that movie.
-Denise Richards: Drop Dead Gorgeous. Maybe it's because she got blown up, maybe it's because she danced with Jesus, but whatever the reason, I thought she was hysterical.
-Kirstie Allie: ditto

Posted by: Rebecca at June 18, 2008 4:11 PM

I have some that have already been said:
-Ben Affleck in Good Will Hunting.
-Lindsey Lohan in Mean Girls
-Renee Zellwegger in Bridget Jones' Diary

also I usually really don't like Keira Knightly but I thought she was ok in Love Actually...I can't help but love that very cheesy movie.

Posted by: Erin at June 18, 2008 4:12 PM

Angelina Jolie- Girl, Interrupted.

Yeah that's right, I hate her. She has somehow become an action star with skinny veiny arms that look as though they can barely lift a pistol.

Posted by: TEAM ANISTON at June 18, 2008 4:12 PM

Brie - I've always maintained the Stiller was at his funniest in "Heavyweights". That movie is absolutely hilarious.

Posted by: samantha t at June 18, 2008 4:13 PM

Jim Carrey in "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and sometimes "The Truman Show" when I'm feeling especially generous.

I know this isn't a movie but. . .

Ben Stiller in "Extras".

Posted by: teacupnosaucer at June 18, 2008 4:16 PM

Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind... doesn't even seem like him. I think its his best work cause its a dramatic role but he's not all, ooooh ooooh look at me, I can be serious, take me seriously, I want an oscar, I want you to love me!

Also it is a perfect film.

Posted by: Carrie at June 18, 2008 4:17 PM

Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine FOR SURE
Normally, I can't handle his rubber face and "zany" antics. But loved that.
Denise Richards in Drop Dead Gorgeous. I normally HATE her (see Starship Troopers where I was cheering for her to die... likewise with that godawful Bond movie where her name was Christmas [shudder].

Keira Knightly pouts too much and I hear she thinks she's fat....makes me want to slap a bitch

but I did kinda like her in Love Actually, probably because she was offset by so much pretty :)

mmmmmm, Colin Firth, sigh............

Posted by: Bethy at June 18, 2008 4:20 PM

Val Kilmer in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Kiera Knightley in the first Pirates of the Caribbean--before her twig-ness asserted itself.

I second the Girls Just Want to Have Fun phenomenon. I love that movie and I cannot stand to watch any of those actors outside of it.

Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sigorney Weaver in Heartbreakers. The movie is all kinds of hilarious and I've never liked either of them.

Posted by: Stephanie at June 18, 2008 4:20 PM

Also: Cary Elwes in The Princess Bride. It's still my favourite movie in the world. I can recite large chunks of both the movie and the book. A few years back, Mr. Pea bought me the DVD when I wore out my VHS copy with repeated viewings.

Posted by: Pea at June 18, 2008 4:22 PM

Ahnold Schwartzinator in "Kindergarten Cop." Does it count if I don't like the actor/actress as a person? I think "Kindergarten Cop" is the only move of his that I've seen but as a person, he makes me want to enact odd Warner Bros. fantasies of taking an ACME-brand syringe and pumping him full of steroids till he pops.

Posted by: Geetch at June 18, 2008 4:23 PM

Rosie O'Donnell in A League of Their Own. Normally, the only time I can stomach her is when I hear Howard Stern go off on her. Also, Madonna was good in that movie.

Jim Carrey in The Truman Show.

I know she is on here a couple times but I liked Nicole Kidman in the Others (i think that was it. with the ghosts?). She is the same as always, it just fit better in that movie.

Posted by: Handel at June 18, 2008 4:32 PM

Tom Cruise can't possibly count. Whatever his real life is like, he's done some amazing roles.

Agreed, twig. Cruise may have become a jackass, and he's not the very best actor. But he is a good actor, and his career management was simply too good for too long. There are probably a dozen good movies on his resume, and he seems to take his job seriously.

I keep hearing all this Keira Knightly non-hate, but the only movie I can honestly say I liked her is was "Bend it Like Beckham," probably because it was before I knew who she was.

Posted by: elizabeth at June 18, 2008 4:37 PM

Helen Hunt in "The Waterdance". Man alive, I can't stand her. She looks perpetually worried and like the world done gone and took a dump on her life... Hateherhateherhateher.

But, yeah. I liked her in "The Waterdance".

Posted by: Skittimus Maximus at June 18, 2008 4:37 PM

Seconding: Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine and Will Ferrell in Stranger Than Fiction. Adding Adam Sandler in Spanglish (as I haven't seen Punch Drunk Love yet. Netflix queue!)

Mickey Rourke in Sin City. I lost interest in him years ago but that role...damn.

Mel Gibson is on my Never Again list, but I might rewatch Signs now and again. (M. Night is also on The List, but his first three movies are not.)

Posted by: minorblue at June 18, 2008 4:46 PM

Ben Affleck as Fred in 'Dazed and Confused'. Everything else he's ever been in he ruins while he's on screen. Even the movies he's in that I like. This is the only one that I can actually tolerate his presence in. I absolutely FUCKING hate his guts, to death.

Posted by: Leslie at June 18, 2008 4:50 PM

Pauly Shore in A Goofy Movie. Somehow his annoying schtick kinda worked as a cartoon character. He actually made me laugh a few times.

Catherine Zeta Jones AND Renee Zellwahooee in CHICAGO.

Posted by: superEdna at June 18, 2008 4:55 PM

I second Keira Knightly in "Bend it Like Beckham".

I'm going to mention Kevin Costner in Bull Durham. I loved that movie and I actually loved his performance in it. He plays a washed-up athlete well.

Posted by: raindog at June 18, 2008 4:59 PM

Okay, two more. I'm not a fan of Hugh Grant. He's annoyingly smug and smarmy, not charming. But I have to say I'm quite fond of him in "Love Actually."

Jude Law is a horse (whore?) of a different color. I LOATHE him and don't understand why anyone would find him sexy with his receding hairline, miniscule penis and nanny screwing. But I have to say I crushed a little on him in (I can't believe I'm admitting this) "The Holiday." Not a great movie but I had to watch it since I L-O-V-E Kate Winslet.

Oh, and I guess I should mention that I almost spewed wine out of my nose when Jude Law did the Peter O'Toole skit on SNL. If you haven't seen it, FIND IT.

Posted by: superEdna at June 18, 2008 5:03 PM

Meryl Streep in Death Becomes Her. Who knew she had a personality?

Cruise in MI1 and MI3 (MI2 is the evil!)

Tara Reid in Alone in the Dark just for adding to the all around insanity.

Posted by: trevor at June 18, 2008 5:10 PM

Um, off the subject, but what's with the perpetual pajiba love for "Good Will Hunting." I hated that movie. Soooo, Matt Damon is this cover boy janitor who just happens to be a math genius and treats his girlfriend like shit but she comes back to him anyway. Bleah!

Sorry for the hatin'. Back to the thread:

Robin Williams was much better in "Awakenings"
And Jude Law in "A.I." Perfect crystal ball self-parody.

or maybe it's just because she bones james mcavoy in that great dress.

Posted by: liz at June 18, 2008 5:21 PM

Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I didn't seem to see eye to eye with his level of humor, and since Eternal Sunshine is one of my favorite movies, he gets points for being not as goofy or oddball.
Jared Leto in either Requiem for a Dream or My So-Called Life. I know its not fair to include two roles for him, but considering his other efforts, they stand out.

Posted by: Kamikaze Feminist at June 18, 2008 5:22 PM

Damn it, folks just steal all my answers. Damn, even Galaxy Quest!

Let's see...oooh, I got one. The four main stars in Evolution. I never watched X-Files except for a couple of episodes, so I didn't understand the big deal about Duchovny. Orlando Jones still had that MadTV smell on him, the same for Seann William Scott and American Pie.

But damn if that movie didn't win me over for all of them. Shit, the entire movie was made of WIN.

Oh, and it made me fall severely in lust with Julianne Moore. Like "even Julie would blush at the things I came up with" levels of lust.

Posted by: Vermillion at June 18, 2008 5:29 PM

Another: Kirsty Alley in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. I don't think she's funny at all, but she made a great Saavik. And Robin Curtis did not.

Posted by: KateNonymous at June 18, 2008 5:33 PM

Renee in "Bridget Jones' Diary," but not the second one. In the second one she's just plain ridiculous and annoying. Aaand, let's see....Britney Murphy in "Clueless" and "Drop Dead Gorgeous." Actually, most of the cast of "Drop Dead Gorgeous."

I usually hate Josh Hartnett, but he was actually pretty good in Lucky Number Slevin and Black Dahlia.

I can't actually watch Dahlia all the way through again, but it wasn't Hartnett's bullshit mime-acting that ruined it. Brian DePalma did that all by himself with that overly gorey, nonsensical script and melodramatic cinematography.

Posted by: Teresa at June 18, 2008 6:05 PM

Brie, you are totally right about The Family Stone being absolute dung. I saw that in San Francisco with my then-girlfriend when I went to visit her one year, and that night, altho we hadn't seen each other in two months, there was barely even any cuddling. Coincidence? I think not. Bite me, The Family Stone.

I guess I'd have to say Fallon in Fever Pitch. Otherwise, I hate him with the fiery passion of a thousand suns.

Posted by: munkymack at June 18, 2008 6:10 PM

Yeah, I don't see any kind of cuddling going on during that movie, Munkymack. I have no idea how these people are supposed to be "loveable" when in reality, they're selfish, elitist jerks, particularly Diane Keaton. Such a raging bitch!

keira knightley in atonement.

Posted by: LB at June 18, 2008 6:22 PM

The bugs in Starship Troopers. Usually not a big fan of the CGI bugs. Always the same. Skulk, swarm, strike randomly and viciously. No *range* really. Been playing themselves and chewing on scenery for years (but not quite as much as Nicholson.)

Posted by: BierceAmbrose at June 18, 2008 6:22 PM

Oh, and Roger Moore in The Wild Geese. Actually not bad.

Ed Norton in Fight Club.

Christian Slater in Pump up the Volume and Heathers. He really should never have left high school. For years he's been playing Nicholson who's been playing a CGI bug.

Wynona Ryder in Heathers, and of course South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut.

Beg to differ on Nicholas Cage. I liked him in Leaving Las Vegas.

Posted by: BierceAmbrose at June 18, 2008 6:29 PM

I can't believe I'm typing this, but ...Jim Belushi in Underdog.

Yeah, I caught it while surfing, and I know it's a kid's movie but some of the lines are great:

Mayor: "You're a maniac!"

Sinister: "I prefer the term 'visionary'!"

Posted by: StephanieS at June 18, 2008 6:31 PM

Easy, Paul Walker in Running Scared. I lurved that flick, and ole Pauly Boy didn't throw me off of it. Well other than the cunnilingus thing... Didn't need to see that.

Posted by: TheSharp at June 18, 2008 6:32 PM

In no particular order:

- Leslie Nielsen in Forbidden Planet. This was the only time in his career that his acting didn't make me cringe.

- Tim Allen in Galaxy Quest. This movie finally made me appreciate Tim Allen. Then he had to go and ruin it with Big Time.

- Val Kilmer in Real Genius. Everything since then has been embarrassing.

- Elijah Wood in Sin City. Every time I see his smug face I want to pummel him unconscious, but he was perfect in this movie.

- Bruce Willis in Fifth Element. I've never been able to stand the bastard, but I can watch this movie any time.

- Mel Gibson in Road Warrior. This is the only movie he's been in that I've liked, which is odd. He's basically made a career out of playing this character in every film.

There are tons of actors whose presence in a film is a guarantee that I won't see it- ever. Maybe we could use that as a diversion sometime.

On second thought, don't bother. The resulting lists would doubtless demolish your servers.

Posted by: Archvillain at June 18, 2008 6:46 PM

I hate everything about J.Lo- except her acting. Loved Out of Sight, but you know what? I kinda really liked Wedding Planner. And you know what else? I didn't hate Maid in Manhattan, although I almost hated it. The girl isn't as bad at acting as she is at the rest of life.

Also? For eight years, all I wanted from life was Adrian Grenier in The Adventures of Sebastian Cole. Anything after that sorked. (Drive me Crazy included, although Melissa Joan Hart can't fail at anything ever. Clarissa!)

Posted by: that bees chick at June 18, 2008 6:49 PM

Thank you, lilianna28 for continuing the Girls Just Want to Have Fun love. I had SUCH a crush on the Jeff Malene character, Christ, I think I still do. Mrowr. And I LOVED it when they won the dance contest. And Helen Hunt came out in a freaking CHARIOT, pulled by HORSES and everyone gets exactly what they want, including Jeff's sister getting her first kiss (even though it's creepy).

Rant over, time for my submission. Will Ferrell shocked the hell outta me in Stranger Than Fiction. That movie makes me cry and cry, even though it has a happy ending. But then again, I cry like a bitch at fucking Happy Feet, go figure.

Also, Eric Stoltz in Mask. He bothers me in a lot of things, it's something about his face. So I guess it makes sense I like him best in the movie where you can't really see it? I mean, how much fucking makeup did they put on him for Some Kind of Wonderful??

I second the love for Macauley Culkin and Mandy Moore in Saved. I love that movie to death and for once I didn't want to smack either of them.

Jack Black in High Fidelity

Kirsten Dunst in Marie Antoinette

Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love

And...my most embarrassing admission:

Ben Stiller in Zoolander. My God I love that movie beyond shame. Why? WHY? I don't know, but it makes my brain hurt to think too much about it.

Posted by: figgylicious at June 18, 2008 7:29 PM

Val Kilmer in Tombstone. Apparently I'm hot for consumptive, sarcastic sharpshooters. No wonder I'm still single.

Kevin Costner in Silverado. Very appealing.

Kevin Costner in A Perfect World. I love this movie, and it makes me bawl like a baby every time I watch it.

Tim Allen in Galaxy Quest. Hilariously perfect casting.

Rainbow Killer in Knocked Up. I had never seen her in anything before (I've never seen Grey's Anatomy) but I was prepared to hate her based on interviews I've read with her, but she was great in that movie. Dammit.

Actors you will NEVER forgive for having been in that movie. You might have loved them, but once they did that one movie you lost every ounce of respect you ever had for them.

Will Ferrel in Stranger than Fiction
Jason Patrick in the Lost Boys

Another vote for Sandler in PDL (though I admit I haven't *seen* much of his other movies, but 20 minutes of Little Nicky made me nauseous), and for Cameron Diaz in Being John Malkovich.

How about Ryan Phillippe in Gosford Park? I don't think he's particularly good in it, but this gets points for my relief when it's revealed that the Scottish accent is *meant* to be bad.

Not someone I loathe, but someone whose choice of films I find awful: Eddie Izzard, except for the Cat's Meow. (I think Dunst isn't too bad in that either, but I did see it a long time ago.)

Also, not quite as asked for, but related: actors who I'd given up on having a brief return to something like form before disappearing back into dreck and paychecks: Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy for Bowfinger. Similarly: latter-day Robin Williams in Insomnia.

Yes, I hate myself for that.

Posted by: bucdaddy at June 18, 2008 9:04 PM

I've got a few.

Jack Black--High Fidelity. Mostly because it's the only time he's ever done the "Jack Black as Jack Black" thing he does in like every movie he's in well.

Kiefer Sutherland--Stand By Me. He's sort of turned into Jack Bauer now, but damn, he was great in Stand By Me.

Zac Efron--Firefly (does this count?) Mostly because his role was incredibly brief, but he was pretty convincing as a young Simon Tam (even though his Mandarin pronunciation made me cringe).

Posted by: Jocelyn at June 18, 2008 9:24 PM

Oh! Further thoughts - Cameron Diaz in The Last Supper.

In everything else she is movie kryptonite to me. Please kill me if I'm ever made to watch her in The Holiday again.

In a Kevin Bacon sense that brings me round to Jack Black, and I agree with everyone about him in High Fidelity. I could watch his 'mime-dance' in HF every single day. Any other movie of his, not so much.

No you didn't! I tried to find a frog hat, to no avail. I did have plenty of legged leotards (dance student for a lot of years) so of COURSE I vaguely, artfully shredded long t-shirts over them. And my color-coordinated slouch socks. Damn, I miss the creativity of the 80s. By the time I was a high school freshman in 94, the most fun I could have was matching my flannel to the bra that was peeking out through my wife beater. And the tights that I wore underneath my cut-off jean shorts. And now I'm kind of missing that, too.

Brie et al.: Amen to the "The Family Stone" hate. That movie was so shitty that it made me feel empty inside. I really couldn't understand the point of it and the only person I could even watch was SJP because she resembled reality in same way. I know they were trying to do the whole quirky-WASP thing, but the deaf AND gay brother with the black partner? Give me a fucking break. And when the guy who played Coach completely blows up at SJP for using the word "normal" at the table (sure, a bit insensitive, but c'mon)? Completely ridiculous.

Ben Affleck in SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE (Perhaps because it was brief but the role fit him like a glove)

Mark Wahlberg in THE DEPARTED. Overrated piece of shit finally embraces his ugliness and I had no trouble believing it.

I agree about Gwyneth in Iron Man. I expected to hate her and feel all vomitous whenever she arrived, but I was loving it all so much that she didn't even disturb me.

jM how can you hate Taye Diggs? Have you seen Taye Diggs? Dayam! *Pantpant*. ;)

When Tyra Banks got gutted in Halloween Resurrection, I stopped hating her. But only after she got gutted.

I too love Andrew Dice Clay as Ford Fairlane, and Lauren Holly was not hateable as his assistant. Also, in Brainsmasher: A Love Story, Teri Hatcher was (incredibly) not even hateable as his love interest! The guy has some sort of magic about him.

Loob, I still giggle like schoolgirl when she gets killed in Higher Learning.

Bob Saget in The Aristocrats. Filthy, filthy, *filthy* man. I know it isn't fiction but it made me so happy, and I hate him so much otherwise.

I also have to agree about Jude Law in "I (Heart) Huckabees". I despise that smarmy nasty man, except in that movie. I love everything about that movie.

Posted by: Lee at June 19, 2008 11:55 AM

Will Ferrell in Stranger than Fiction, I actually kind of like him now since then.

Kevin Costner in Robin Hood and in The Bodyguard. Just those two.

I hate Leonardo DiCaprio and Julianne Moore in EVERYTHING. Can't watch anything with either of them in it.

Posted by: cattitude at June 19, 2008 12:51 PM

As has already been said, Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love. He and Emily Watson were AWESOME together.

And I have to agree that Britney Murphy, who really can't act that well at all, was great in Clueless ("Rollin' with the homies *sniffle*") and was at least alright in Sin City. Though I have to say, in a movie where everyone was overacting, she STILL seemed out of place.

Cameron Diaz in There's Something About Mary. I cannot STAND her. I don't think she's pretty, I think she basically plays the same person IN EVERY MOVIE, but I liked her in that.

Oh also? Renee Zelwaxface in Chicago. I agree with Kathy Griffin's appraisal of her looking like a sweaty, puffy coke whore, I find her endlessly uninteresting, but she was hardCORE in Chicago. And she sang really well too.

Ben Stiller - The Royal Tennenbaums

There's always a little mistiness when Chas breaks down and say's he's "had a rough year..." ugh... Damn you Stiller!!

1. Brittany Murphy, Clueless: "Cher, you're a virgin who can't drive."

2. Nicole Kidman, To Die For: "No wait I'm sorry. Suzanne Maretto is my married name. My own name... is Suzanne Stone. THAT'S my PROFfessional name. SUZANNE STONE."

3. Lea Thompson, Back To The Future Part II: "You're home, Marty. Back on the good ol' 27th floor."

bob - "the horrible andrew mccarthy in pretty in pink."

Booooooo! Take it back! Andrew McCarthy is wonderful. The true blemish of Pretty in Pink was that Molly Ringwald chick.

Kevin Costner can only ever play one role - Kevin Costner. On trailers, they might as well just say "In a world....(actual trailer narration here)...Kevin Costner IS Kevin Costner in....(name of movie where Costner will invariably show his ass with major tan lines which will make middle aged women swoon, thereby satisfying their target audience here).

That being said, as long as Costner keeps playing washed up athletes (sardonic ones, not so much the bitter ones), I'll keep watching

jeniffer conolly in "requim for a dream"

Ellene Page in "Mouth to Mouth"

Posted by: sara at June 19, 2008 6:32 PM

Casey Affleck in "The assassination of Jesse James". Probably the only role that will ever fit his "talents". By the way, if you want to laugh your ass off, watch him in "Gone baby gone". He actually tries to get tough with some bar thugs without getting his ass handed to him. Priceless.

Posted by: B-rant at June 19, 2008 6:47 PM

Vin Diesel, "Pitch Black". Not that he really acts any differently than he normally does, or better. I'm just very partial to that movie. And that was before he was in any of his future box office endeavors. So, it was an objective viewing experience.

Phew.

Tom Cruise in War of the Worlds.
James Van Der Beek in Rules of Attraction.
Robin Williams in The Fisher King

People I've never liked...
Robert Deniro
Richard Gere
Kristen Dunst (except for the alley scene in Spidey 1)

Paul Walker in Pleasantville

I think Paul Walker is easily the worst actor in Hollywood who still gets major rolls. My friends and I have disscussed that his role in Pleasantville was pefect for someone who didn't have natural acting talent because the people of Pleasantville weren't supposed to act the same way that charachters in most movies are supposed to.

There is always something about Nicole Kidman that makes want to backhand her right out of a chair. She just pisses me off, its that smug smirk she usually has. I really liked her character in Cold Mountain. And frankly, she was the best thing about Eyes Wide Shut, which sucked chunks in my book.

JLo. I don't understand all the fuss, she's.....mildly entertaining most of the time. But she was controlled and smoldering in Shall We Dance.

Posted by: Lori at June 19, 2008 8:53 PM

Rob Schneider and Adam Sandler in "50 First Dates," a movie I adore to an embarrassing extent

Antonio Banderas in "13th Warrior"

Hugh Grant in "Love Actually"

I'll second Darryl Hannah in "Kill Bill" [both 1 and 2, and add Michael Madsen to that

Geena Davis in "Long Kiss Goodnight"

Posted by: Salieri2 at June 19, 2008 10:01 PM

Hilary Swank in "Iron-Jawed Angels." I don't know why I love that movie SO much. But I do. And I HATE her in EVERYTHING else.

Posted by: KatyBelle at June 20, 2008 12:05 AM

Kevin Costner in Bull Durham. He is untenable in ANYTHING else.

Reneé "Squinting-is-my-method-acting" Zellweger in Cold Mountain. I never thought I'd love her in anything, but she was fan-freaking-tastic as Ruby.

Posted by: allee at June 20, 2008 5:52 AM

Macaulay Culkin and Seth Green in Party Monster.

Tom Cruise in the movie of his life, which I find to be a much more interesting character to watch...

Wow, I'm so grateful for that information. Knowing Tyra dies in this film actually makes me want to see it. Thanks!

Ellen Degeneres in "Finding Nemo." Don't loathe her at all but it's the only CGI performance that ever reached transcendence for me. Yes I even count Gollum, the JP Dinosaurs and Yoda in the mix.

Melanie Griffith in Cecil B. Demented

She does this annoying throat-clearing thing that usually drives me up the wall.

Jude Law in Gattica

It's been said, but needs to be repeated. John Travolta in Pulp Fiction. I understand that Daniel Day Lewis wanted that part. So why would Tarantino shut down one of the great actors of a generation for Vinny Barbarino? Because Vincent Vega is an over the hill, has been loser who is in no way as cool as he thinks he is. What better choice than a 1994 Travolta? Everything else he has touched since Pulp Fiction has been the worst sort black, hangover shit.

In fact this illustrates a theme. Asshole, untalented douchebags are usually only good at portraying douchebags.

Ben Afflek in Dazed and Confused. an obnoxious loser that no on likes. he nails it.
Leonardo in Gilbert Grape. Prepubesant retard. perfect.
Patrick Swayze in Donnie Darko. Not a fan of the movie, but he's great as a cheesy, motivational kiddie fiddler. (do you think he inspired those kids, after he sodomized them?)
Hugh Grant in About a Boy. Conceited twat that doesn't deserve the success he has. Again, somehow he found the range to hit that one on the head.

I have one that i hope will be on my list in about a month. Maggie Gyllenhall (or however the hell you spell it) in the Dark Knight. Oh man i hate that bulbous nosed, no talent, nepotism receiving fraud of an actor. For all the good that has been said of Will Ferrell in Stranger than Fiction (which is spot on), she cancels it all out. I really hope she doesn't kill the Dark Knight for me. After Indiana Jones and the Ridiculous Alien Bullshit, I don't think I can handle another summer disappointment.

Posted by: heybulldog at June 21, 2008 3:07 AM

Something odd just popped into my mind - blame it on the Solstice. I watched Me Myself and Irene about a week ago on TV, and one of Jim Carrey's lines directed at Renee Zellweger was something like:

"And you with your weird face like you've been sucking lemons".

So maybe Renee is a a good sport after all, as a diva probably wouldn't go for that?
Or am I delusional?

Posted by: StephanieS at June 21, 2008 6:37 PM

you know, you guys are totally right. Tom Cruise is a crazy asshole, but I think he's actually a really good actor. I think it's unfortunate that most of his roles have him playing the same guy (cocky asshole) but he does it well and believably, and in the few movies where he's cast against type it can actually be really exciting to see what he can do. It really is a shame that he seems to be such a freak in his personal life.

I liked him in "Get Shorty." Of course, it was essentially the same character, a little smarter.

Tom Cruise in Rain Main.

No wait, I just liked Rain Man.

I have always hated Tom Cruise, even back before it was fashionable. I can't think of a single movie I liked him in; it's just that Rain Man was the only movie he's been in that I liked in spite of his presence.
