My earliest Pajiba memory is clicking on the link from Go Fug Yourself (after being perplexed and intrigued by the ads there for some time) and being totally stumped by how to make this site work and what exactly it was. Yes, I am slow on the uptake. As I've mentioned before, it took my third visit to the site to finally get it.

I do clearly remember my first comment. People were calling out actors who did not deserve their Oscars and BSlim had pointed a finger at Helen Hunt. Being the innocent that I was, I responded and said that as long as we were taking Oscars away, especially for that movie, Jack Nicholson needed to give his back too. And shockingly (especially knowing what I do now about him) BSlim agreed.

If I had known how much Pajiba was going to take over/influence my life, I would have picked a more anonymous Pajibidentity. Oh, and I'm sorry to say that GFY gets much less of my attention these days, thanks to this here site.

No need to be coy, since I'm on the map--I live in Northampton, MA. However, Dustin, the other thing I wanted to know is Where are people from originally? So, to answer that question, I'm originally from Maryland--the central part that is now the epitome of suburban sprawl. Though Columbia is a planned community. *I was reading the AVClub's review of Captivity, and one of the commenters (I think it was Alex the Odd!) provided a link to Dustin's review. I read it, agreed wholeheartedly, and have loved him, ever since. Despite his obvious and unreasonable hatred for all things geeky. (For the record, I came to love the eloquents and other staff writers pretty quickly, too.)
2) What city do you live in?
*Los Angeles, CA. I have a STRONG love-hate relationship with this city. Today, I want to board the next flight out of here. Tomorrow, I'll be all excited about going to New Beverly or UCB Theatre. I'll probably end up leaving.

Well, let's see - BSlim seems not to live in the Midwest, Canada or Europe. He could be in another country, but I'm thinking he's in the US, one of the coasts, leftie that he is. Man I'm posting late on this one...this is longer than the open threads during the debate! But damn, I honestly don't remember when I came to pajiba was. Anyways...

It's been at least three years, but feels like only yesterday. And somehow I lurked for years until Jim Butcher love brought me out.

I split my time between Boston, MA for law school and hometown Hudson, NH.

I'm currently more broke than the stock market because I'm a law school student who doesn't have time to work. It's ridiculous to be living off loans!

I'm straight and single for the first time in over three years- and it's weird and wonderful.

I like Brick, Pixar and Superbad a lot but I'm not menstrually squeamish, though bleeding wounds are a different story (when visiting a friend two years ago she stated "We're watching Brick" and I thanked her for it). I'm neutrally ignorant of A Knight's Tale ("Purists be damned!") and Studio Ghibli, along with most modern anime. Donnie Darko was ruined by its cult of hype so I've never seen it, nor have I read or seen American Psycho, but only because it just doesn't interest me.

And I thought, "well, they're talking about 'the 80s savings and loan crisis' and 'the 2001 recession', and I lived through those as well as the 1991 recession so I'm not going to freak out. I wish capitalists could learn to control their hysteria, like Captain Polk's contagious panic that broke the line at the battle of Lookout Mountain (He ran! At the height of our victory he ran!) or remember what got them into trouble the last time, but they probably can't do that on their own. Besides, I have no house or invested money to lose! WHEEEE!!"

Okay. Well at least you have Brick. It's hard to do self-aware comedy without either losing yourself in a meta-warp or else sacrificing the viewers' emotional stake in the story. I think I damn near choked on my popcorn at the interior of Dode's van.

Err, this is a funny little story actually. For my 18th birthday my sister and I had taken a trip to Vienna to see the Dresden Dolls in concert. Anyways, I'm a touch of an insomniac and hadn't gotten any sleep for a week or so prior to this trip.So, as my sister and I are driving from Germany to Vienna, I'm doing the navigating. Obviously, this means we get all kinds of fucked up lost.

It's two in the morning by the time we reach Vienna, and it's raining, and the city lights are shimmering and bouncing through raindrops in the night sky. At some point, I think it was shortly after we missed our turn to the hotel, I gazed into the sky as we drove and saw what can only be described as a majestic huge fuck off octopus made of light in the heavens. Now I know this is merely a trick of my sleep deprived mind, but damn if it wasn't nifty.

So, we get to the hotel, see the concert, it's all awesome-o, go home, it's all good. However, a few months ago I brought all this octopus in the sky stuff up with a co-worker, who told me this is a common hallucination among insomniacs.

So obviously, I gotta check this shit out.

I go to google, type in octopus insomniacs (should totally be a band name by the way), nothing comes up. I type up every variation on the idea I can think of. At some point I don't think I care about finding a correlation between a sky octopus and insomniacs, but instead am just doing it for pure shits and giggles.
Eventually I type Godtopus.
Don't really know why that specific phrase came to mind, but it did, and although I did not find anything to do with members of the genus Octopus and Insomniacs, I found this site.

As it relates to PajiCon - I think that the site should use the money collected for the creepy American Apparel ads and fly us all to a central location. It only seems fair.

1) I was directed by the Fug Girls. I think it was a Firecrotch ad that got me in, and my curiosity to find out what a 'Pajeeeeba' was (yes, now I know how to pronounce it!!). My earliest Pajiban memory is... not sure. But I remember the server crash. I am doing a degree in Media/Communications, and for one assignment we had to analyse an online community that we were a part of. I did Pajiba, and had written most of the assignment but hadn't linked to the particular pages that I was discussing/referencing. Then, on the day the assignment was due, Homeland Security decided that we shouldn't be able to say/do what we want, and clearly that included stopping me from finishing off my assignment. I managed to google cache some of the pages for the URL references, but otherwise I just made them all up as to what I thought they would be. And clearly university lecturers don't check the accuracy of references. Also, I totally got an A on my assignment.
