An Evening Comment Diversion / Dustin Rowles

Comment Diversions | May 18, 2009 | Comments (136)

Tonight’s comment diversion comes from a regular around here, Figgy, who enlivens the comment section and brings us occasional Cannonball Read reviews. And she does it all from Central America. She writes:

A friend of mine needs to compile a playlist of songs to play for a party celebrating the demise of his horrible boss. They’ve been working for years to get her thrown out for complete and shameful incompetence and it seems like they will finally succeed. And when it happens, they want to throw a victory party. So he needs help finding some songs that basically boil down to a big ‘fuck you!’ so they can bask in the glory of her downfall.

I really don’t have many ideas, the only one I can think of right off the top of my head is “Ding, dong, the Witch is Dead!’ which is absolutely perfect but not much fun to listen to on endless loop.

So any suggestions would be more than welcome. I know Pajibans will know some angry revenge music.

—-

My suggestion: Van Halen’s version of “Happy Trails,” a not so subtle way of saying: Don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out, schmuck.

Comments

"You're Breaking My Heart" by Harry Nilsson and "Fuck You 2" from Bif Naked.
Direct and to the point.

Posted by: Spender at May 18, 2009 8:51 PM

wait, are they dying or just getting fired?

Posted by: gp at May 18, 2009 8:52 PM

"Dirt Room" by Blue October is supposed to be about giving the fuck you to the guys' boss I believe.

Posted by: Alex at May 18, 2009 8:54 PM

I Used to Love Her by Guns N Roses?
Fight the Power- Public Enemy

Posted by: oaklandcat at May 18, 2009 8:55 PM

i second fight the power. corky style.

Posted by: gp at May 18, 2009 8:56 PM

Mmm... it doesn't exactly fit this scenario, but I have always liked the cold go-to-hell that is "Somebody That I Used To Know" by Elliott Smith.

Posted by: The Wandering Parakeet at May 18, 2009 8:56 PM

"Your time is gonna come" by Led Zeppelin.

Posted by: lynx at May 18, 2009 8:58 PM

HA! Thanks for posting it, Dustin. If you ever dare come down this way, you're set. My mom will happily feed you to death.

FIGHT THE POWER. I love it. LOVE.

Am gonna be taking notes all night, guys.

Just getting fired, gp. Though I think my friend would be glad with the dying, too.

Posted by: figgy at May 18, 2009 9:01 PM

"I Can't Decide" - Scissor Sisters

Actual lyrics: "Oh, I could throw you in a lake or feed you poisoned birthday cake, I won't deny I'm gonna miss you when you're gone. I could bury you alive but you might crawl out with a knife and kill me when I'm sleeping".

Surprisingly upbeat tempo though.

Posted by: Genny (also Rusty) at May 18, 2009 9:03 PM

"Positively 4th Street" and "Idiot Wind" by Bob Dylan would be my top choices. For something less subtle, "Fuck You" by Lily Allen always puts a smile on my face.

Posted by: Chris at May 18, 2009 9:04 PM

Best breakup song ever is "Song for the Dumped" by Ben Folds

For a great quitting work song, "Pink Slip" by The Unband.

Posted by: Nate at May 18, 2009 9:08 PM

I'm going to reach deep into the angry bag for Nashville Pussy and "Go Motherfucker Go". I'm assuming subtle is not the way to go here.

Posted by: Mrcreosote at May 18, 2009 9:09 PM

"We Used To Be Friends" by the Dandy Warhols

Posted by: Rachel at May 18, 2009 9:09 PM

"You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morissette? Is that too obvious?

"Right Through You" is definitely more angry but a little too specific.

Posted by: Ling at May 18, 2009 9:12 PM

The Violent Femmes Kiss Off and Add It Up. They aren't about the workplace, but they're great fuck you songs.

Posted by: Cindy at May 18, 2009 9:12 PM

Ooh, ooh! 'Fuck You, Aurora' by Alkaline Trio!

I just don't do subtle in cases such as this.

Posted by: Spender at May 18, 2009 9:15 PM

"People Ain't No Good" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

"Landlocked Blues" by Bright Eyes.

These are end of the evening wind-down drunk singalongy ones.

"Kiss Off" Violent Femmes

"Get Free" the Vines

These are Fuck You songs of the highest order.

Posted by: Stacy D at May 18, 2009 9:17 PM

(cliche alert) "God's Gonna Cut you Down/Run On" any gospel version of that works, and barring that, the Johnny Cash version will do.

Also, in paying homage to my days in elementary school when I wanted nothing more than to live in Wayne's World, "Everything About You" by Ugly Kid Joe. Ah, 1992, why were you so damn good to me?

But my favorite has to be "Life's Been Good" by Joe Walsh; a big old fuck you to celebrities.

Posted by: Sarah at May 18, 2009 9:18 PM

hrrm. i'm going with "cut" by the cure.

it just used to cheer me up when some bad boyfriend or hanger-on was finally out of my life.

Posted by: gp at May 18, 2009 9:20 PM

I don't know why I said "The".

Posted by: Cindy at May 18, 2009 9:21 PM

"Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" by the Spin Doctors

Posted by: Jessika at May 18, 2009 9:22 PM

"I'll be glad when you're dead" by Louis Armstrong

I'll be glad when you're dead, you rascal you
I'll be glad when you're in your grave, you dog
I'll be standin' on a corner high
When they bring your body by
I'll be glad when you're dead, you rascal you

"One Less Bitch" by NWA. I hope your coworkers are open-minded.

Posted by: Tracer Bullet at May 18, 2009 9:23 PM

Erasure I Love To Hate You.

Posted by: Cindy at May 18, 2009 9:25 PM

"Hey You" by BTO seems rather fitting. "For everyone on top, there's one who can replace," indeed.

Posted by: meaux at May 18, 2009 9:27 PM

"Mutiny" by William Elliott Whitmore.

"I Hope You Die" by The Bloodhound Gang

Posted by: puregonzo at May 18, 2009 9:31 PM

"Fuck You" by Ottorongo

Posted by: Bistro at May 18, 2009 9:35 PM

"The Likes of You Again" - Flogging Molly

"Get Off of My Cloud" - Rolling Stones

And it's not a fuck-you song, but it is appropriate for your friend's situation, the B-side to "Get Off of My Cloud":

"I'm Free" - Rolling Stones

Posted by: NF at May 18, 2009 9:36 PM

Kelis "Bossy"
The F-Ups "Screw You"
Chamillionaire "The Sound of Revenge"

To get in the mood for the firing, there's always "A Change Is Gonna Come."

"It's Over" by Tom Waits?
Just to rejoice when he keeps singing "it's over, it's over."

Posted by: Sharon at May 18, 2009 9:38 PM

I say you go with a few Office Space classics: "Damn It Feels Good to be a Gangster" and "Die, Motherfucker, Die"

The first one just makes you feel so badass and the second one makes you wanna kick said boss.

Posted by: Marcela at May 18, 2009 9:38 PM

One Angry Dwarf And 200 Solemn Faces by Ben Folds

Posted by: Rebecca at May 18, 2009 9:45 PM

I know he's been panned around these parts but Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" is such a great rollicking fuck you to someone who thought so highly of themselves and now has got their just desserts. Plus his voice lends itself to the bitterness of lyrics like:

You used to be so amused
At Napoleon in rags and the language that he used
Go to him now, he calls you, you can't refuse
When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose
You're invisible now, you got no secrets to conceal.

Posted by: Katers at May 18, 2009 9:46 PM

Good call, Rebecca!!
LOVE that song.

Posted by: Sharon at May 18, 2009 9:52 PM

"Bad Days" - The Flaming Lips:

And you hate your boss at your job
well in your dreams you can blow his head off
in your dreams
show no mercy

Also, "Asshole" by Denis Leary seems appropriate.

Posted by: Lauren at May 18, 2009 9:55 PM

Worth looking up for you youngsters, pretty much all of Frank Zappa's album Sheik Yerbuti. If I had to pick one track, I'd go with Yo' Mama. A good 1/4 of any other Zappa album would fit.

From Steely Dan, at least Dirty Work, Change of the Guard, My Old School, Through With Buzz, Any World (That I'm Welcome To),

You gotta do Paul Simon's 50 Ways (to Leave Your Lover)

BNL (Barenaked Ladies) - Hello City, I Live With It Every Day, It's All Been Done, Alcohol, and Never Is Enough and Baby Seat

Kinda obscure, but Last Chance Texaco can fit. And cut deep, depending.

Many of my old favorites here. It seems I was quite the the angry young man.

Posted by: BierceAmbrose at May 18, 2009 9:58 PM

Al Green "Free At Last"
Pixies "Debaser"
Franz Ferdinand "Shopping for Blood"
Pete Quin "Waffles" (because waffles hit the spot!)

It's a her, yes? Then the perfect song is Ben Folds' cover of "Bitches ain't Shit"
And all the earlier suggestions are just incredible.

Posted by: Optimus Rhyme at May 18, 2009 10:15 PM

Thanks Sharon! I find Ben Folds manages to express my white-hot, burning nerd rage better than I ever could.

"Everything About You," Ugly Kid Joe. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Posted by: logar at May 18, 2009 10:22 PM

Posted by: George at May 18, 2009 10:27 PM

I'm surprised no one's said this yet, but:

Green Day - "Platypus (I Hate You)"

It's time to quit
Cause you ain't worth the shit
Under my shoes or the piss on the ground!

Posted by: Nova at May 18, 2009 10:28 PM

Many congratulations, figgy!

Let's see what I have for the occasion:

*Feelin' Good by Nina Simone (works for every "thank Christ that's over with!" scenario)
*Finest Worksong by REM
*Apres Moi by Regina Spektor ("I must go on standing!/ You can't break that which isn't yours!" PLUS, it gets all defiantly chanty at the end)
*The Waitress by Tori Amos ("I believe in peace, bitch!)
*Limp by Fiona Apple
*Invincible by Pat Benetar (from The Legend of Billie Jean)
*Fall Down by Throwing Muses
*Common People, as performed by William Shatner and Ben Folds

Finally! I make it to a diversion before my idea is taken!!

Take a Bow by Muse. For those of you who are woefully unfamiliar, I suggest you look up the lyrics.

Several by Elvis Costello: "Hand In Hand" (one of my favorite songs of all fucking time); "Lip Service;" "Clowntime Is Over;" "No Dancing"

Bob Dylan was an absolute master of put-down songs: "Idiot Wind" and "Ballad of a Thin Man" are a couple of my favorites. "Maggie's Farm" may also float your boat, depending on what this boss was like.

"You Suck" by The Murmurs

"Ghosts" by Ladytron

"VooDoo Doll" by April March

"I Hate Everything About You" by Ugly Kid Joe

I'm back, and damn do I have a lot of catching up to do.

But first I want to thank whoever it was (looked/can't find) made the recommendation for Jets at the Philly airport but I thought there was only one, way down in terminal F (I came in at terminal A, and had a connecting flight in terminal B, and only had about a half hour). So when I walked past a Chickie & Pete's and spotted Hop Devil on tap I stopped there.

And then I walked past the Jets in terminal B.

Shit.

They had maybe 30 taps. I would have been happy to spend the day.

Sorry for the diversion diversion. Get back to it!

"God Will" by Lyle Lovett.

"Who keeps on trusting you when you've been cheating,
And spending your nights on the town?
And who keeps on saying that he still wants you,
When you're through running around?
And who keeps on loving you when you've been lying,
Saying things ain't what they seem?
God does, but I don't.
God will, but I won't.
And that's the difference between God and me."

  • "Get the Fuck Out" by Skid Row
  • "Get the Fuck Out" by 2 Live Crew

  • "Leash" by Pearl Jam - carries the FU spirit, though its more anti-authority
  • "Wish" by Nine Inch Nails

and to finish off on the right note, since the evil boss will be gone, and you'll be celebrating..

OK I'm done, but is it bad that I'm hoping some woman I've never met gets shit-canned so these songs don't go to waste?

Hands down:

"Hatred" -- Tonio K, off "Life in the Foodchain"

Starts in a kind of country whine:

Now I know it's not unusual
It's nothin' so unique
There's probably hundreds of wonderful love affairs
That go bad in this town every week
(It's a big town)
But all of them others them sad-hearted lovers
They cried in their beer, what the hey
It didn't concern me
Was nunna my business
I never had nothin to say
But suddenly darling the tables have turned
You have left me for somebody new
And now it's hard to express the resentment I feel
For the years that I wasted on you.

But let me kinda put this another way, OK?

(ass-kick punk kicks in with "ein swie drie")

Repeat verse, to chorus:

I'm so full of ...
H-A-T-R-E-D
I'm bitter and malign, you've got me
P-I-S-S-E-D off
I'm angry most of the time, why don't you
G-O T-O H-E-double-L
You tramp, you philandering bitch
I'm going to
K-I-L-L
One of us, baby, give me time and I'll decide on which

I know I'm acting immature
I'm acting like a child
I should express some self-control
Instead of going wild like this and I
Wish that I could accept all of this
As simply life, which includes pain
And act upon the actual fact that
Nobody's to blame, ah, yes, I
Wish I was as mellow as, for instance, Jackson Browne, but
"Fountains of Sorrow" my ass, motherfucker
I hope you wind up in the ground
(chorus, devolving into mayhem)

Well, lookie:

Dylan's Don't Think Twice It's Alright comes to mind immediately. And for a historic moment, when J Edgar Hoover died in '72 WBCN in Boston followed the announcement with David Crosby's Been A Long Time Comin'. I always thought that song fitting for the passing of our Great American Ogres. Hopefully I will hear it on the day Cheney goes to the Great Oven.

"For Doz That Slept" by Black Sheep on the A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing album. It's simply a choir singing "Fuck You" over and over.

I'd me more than happy to rip you a copy, 'cause I doubt you'd find it on a p2p.

Oh! And it wouldn't be a goodbye party without Placebo's Song To Say Goodbye..

You are one of God's mistakes,
You crying, tragic waste of skin,
I'm well aware of how it aches,
And you still won't let me in.
Now I'm breaking down your door,
To try and save your swollen face,
Though I don't like you anymore,
You lying, trying waste of space.

Before our innocence was lost,
You were always one of those,
Blessed with lucky sevens,
And the voice that made me cry.
My oh my.

You were mother nature's son,
Someone to whom I could relate,
Your needle and your damage done,
Remains a sorted twist of fate.
Now I'm trying to wake you up,
To pull you from the liquid sky,
Coz if I don't we'll both end up,
With just your song to say goodbye.

'Shit On You' by D12

Not only does it tend to express my feelings at the time, but I usually feel happier afterwards too.

Outta Me, Onto You - Ani Difranco
"...some people wear their heart up on their sleeve. I wear mine underneath my right pant leg, strapped to my boot. Don't think 'cause I'm easy, I'm naive. Don't think I won't pull it out. Don't think I won't shoot..."

We Your Dearest Friends - Carly Simon
"...We, your dearest friends, are having dinner without you. We're witty, and we use it to be vicious. In just another minute, we'll be laughing about you..."

Girl From the Gutter - Kina
"...I hope your Hell is filled with magazines, and on every page you see a big picture of me. And under every picture, the caption should read: 'not bad for a girl from the gutter like me'..."

Rip Her to Shreds - Blondie
"...Yeah, she's so dull, come on rip her to shreds..."

I Wish It Was Over - Teddy Thompson
"...I don't even like you, or can't you tell?
Whenever I'm sober, I treat you like hell..."

Caught Out There - Kelis
"...I hate you so much right now...I hate you so much right now..."

Special - Garbage
"...Do you have an opinion? A mind of your own? I thought you were special. I thought you should know. But I've run out of patience. I couldn't care less..."

Call Tyrone - Erykah Badu
"...I think you need to call Tyrone, and tell him come on, help you get your shit. You need to call Tyrone, but ya can't use my phone..."

Get Gone - Fiona Apple
"...you got your game, made your shot, and you got away with a lot, but I'm not turned on, so put away that meat you're selling..."

We played "Gone Daddy Gone" by Gnarls Barkley as the theme for our party when Bush left office.

Also, Pink Hulk, I'd suggest "Thirteen Times" by Garbage, Special is sort of a melancholy heartbroken love song (at least, that's what it feels like to me). 13X is more a pure hatred, fuck you, you fucking bastard, kinda song.

Damn, now I gotta go listen to 2.0 for the next couple of hours.

Posted by: Bane at May 19, 2009 5:21 AM

That should be "13X Forever" by Garbage. I really did need to listen to it!

Posted by: Bane at May 19, 2009 5:25 AM

Blur - Song 2
Mostly for the epic WOOOOO HOOOO chorus.

Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the name of
"Fuck you I won't do what you tell me"

both very party-suitable

Posted by: Ari at May 19, 2009 6:03 AM

Queen: Death on two legs.

A Perfect Circle: The Noose

Arctic Monkeys: Perhaps vampires is a bit strong but...

Devildriver: Die (And Die Now)

Graham Coxon: Song for the sick

Kreator: Dystopia

Lollipop Lust Kill: Bury you

Posted by: FabMax at May 19, 2009 7:28 AM

Green Day's Good Riddance (Time of Your Life). I don't really like this song for listening to, but I do like the snotty lyrics that could go either way.

"Death Of A Clown" by the Kinks --
"let's all drink to the death of a clown..."

Posted by: dirt monkey at May 19, 2009 8:17 AM

"Fuck You" by DOA. Covers all the bases, hostility-wise.

Posted by: DGM at May 19, 2009 8:29 AM

Go to Sleep - Eminem, D12, DMX
One of the few very good group songs from Em and D12 and nicely cathartic and vicious.

South Texas Deathride - Union Underground
Mainly because the chorus of "Come on come on come on get up get up, south Texas deathride your mother fuck" is enormously fun to shout and the "mother fuck" can be aimed at anyone you see fit.

Fall of the World's Own Optimist - Aimee Mann
May seem like an off choice but I always liked the line "The eggshells I've been treading/couldn't spare me a beheading/and I know I had it coming/from a Caesar who was only slumming"

Posted by: TylerDFC at May 19, 2009 8:42 AM

It's an old country song from the 1970's, but . . .

TAKE THIS JOB AND SHOVE IT, I AIN'T WORKING HERE NO MORE

Oh, TPH, I know and love every single one of those songs. Especially the Kina song. I sing it at the top of my lungs when someone has done me wrong.

Posted by: Trouble at May 19, 2009 9:21 AM

These are more about shitty jobs than someone going, but I have the following (apologies if already posted)

Beat it on down the line Grateful Dead
Well this job Ive got is just a little too hard,
Running out of money, lord, I need more pay.
Gonna wake up in the morning lord, gonna pack my bags,
Im gonna beat it on down the line.

Why do I need a job Bobby Bare Jr.
I once worked for an old bastard
Who always pushed me to work faster
He made fun of me
Cause my hair was green
He tried to stick his hands into my jeans

Solsbury Hill Peter Gabriel
Today I dont need a replacement
Ill tell them what the smile on my face meant
My heart was going boom boom boom
Hey, I said, you can keep my things, theyve come to take me home.

Ooo, ooo, one more:

"Mars Needs Women" by the aforementioned Tonio K:

well we argue all day
then we argue all night
we stand up sit down fight fight fight
i don't know about you
i'm just talkin' for me
but i don't see no future in this thing

i hear mars needs women
maybe you should apply
don't worry 'bout me baby
have a good time
i hear mars needs women
i don't know if it's true
but that's all right for you

you don't care about true
you don't care about false
you just want everyone to agree with you that's all
you can't live in the city
you can't live on the farm
you can't live nowhere on this planet with that kind of charm

i hear mars needs women...

Both versions are lovely, but Gone Daddy Gone is a Violent Femmes song and Gnarls Barkley covered it. My daughter loved that GB video as a baby and would demand multiple viewings of "THOSE BUGS!"

Sigh. Gordon Gano. Where I am now you could only guess.

In my bunk.

Posted by: Stacy D at May 19, 2009 10:56 AM

I've Been So Mad Lately, Butt Trumpets
Chock full o' profanity and contains the best "fuck off" line ever: "you can eat the corn outta my shit!"

Good times.

Antidote by Pain. It's on the album Wonderful Beef.

Key lyric:
"Tony's got a bot-fly in his forehead.
Jenny's got a guinea worm in her shoe.
Dave's got leeches.
Mike's got flu.
Everybody has a parasite.
I've got you."

Posted by: Archvillain at May 19, 2009 11:07 AM

Entertain by Sleater-Kinney. One of the first songs I've heard of theirs and I'm glad I stayed loyal to them.
Untouchable Face by Ani DiFranco. It's kind of like You Oughta Know's much more obscure but not really obscure sister.
And someone already mentioned it but, Head Like a Hole by Nine Inch Nails. With lyrics like Head like a Hole/Black as your Soul/I'd rather die then give you Control/ there's no denying that Trent Reznor is a bloody genius.

Posted by: Kamikaze Feminist at May 19, 2009 11:13 AM

I'm not sure about the actual song, as I never took the time to understand the lyrics, but the video to Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me A River" was a big FUCK YOU to Britney, and probably started her down her downward spiral.

Three quarters of Kid Rock's "Devil Without A Cause" is pure FUCK YOU.

But my favorite FUCK YOU song is this little gem:

How about "Tramp The Dirt Down" by Elvis Costello. The chorus:

Well I hope I don't die too soon
I pray the lord my soul to save
Oh I'll be a good boy, I'm trying so hard to behave
Because there's one thing I know, I'd like to live
Long enough to savour
That's when they finally put you in the ground
I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down

It's specifically about Margaret Thatcher but I think you can make it work. It's not exactly sing-a-long or dance to party music so I'd second the "Take this Job and Shove it" and "We're Not Gonna Take It" suggestions to liven things up a bit.

The obvious: Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name

The awesome: Cursive - Ten Percent to the Ten Percent (seriously...I demand it. It's from this http://www.amazon.com/Lagniappe-Saddle-Benefit-Hurricane-Katrina/dp/B000BJS8DQ)

"Head Like a Hole" - NIN
"My Violent Heart" - NIN ("You have set something in motion/Greater than you've ever known/Standing there in all your grand naiviety/About to reap what you have sown/Time will feed upon your weaknesses/And soon you'll lose the will to care/When you return to the place you call home/We will be there/We will be there")

Anything by Scarface, enjoy.

"Rootless Tree" - Damien Rice

So fuck you, fuck you, fuck you
And all we've been through
I said leave it, leave it, leave it
It's nothing to you
And if you hate me, hate me, hate me
Then hate me so good that you can let me out
Let me out of this hell when you're around
Let me out, let me out,
Let me out of this hell when you're around
Let me out, let me out

Also, "Since U Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson.

Off With Their Heads' "Until the Day I Die" is the greatest revenge song I've ever heard. The last few lines repeated are:

"...and I'll never let it go
I'll just let it grow
Until the die I die I fucking swear
I'm gonna make your life as miserable as mine."

Posted by: Greg at May 19, 2009 3:04 PM

I was gonna mention Black Sheep's "For Doz That Slept," but someone beat me to it, so...

How about Tool's "Hush"? I mean, the opening lyrics are a screamed "Fuck youuuuu!" that lasts for nearly a minute.

And also Helmet's "(I'd Like to) See You Dead." 'Nuff said.

Posted by: Case at May 19, 2009 3:33 PM

Nick Lowe's ridiculously catchy "Stick It Where the Sun Don't Shine."
Maybe slightly off topic but I also like Todd Snider's warning to his boss: "Lookin' for a Job".

Posted by: Burninator at May 19, 2009 3:47 PM

I don't know if it's already been mentioned but "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morrissette.

Posted by: Jadine at May 19, 2009 4:28 PM

"Half Your Age" by Kid Rock. He wrote it about Pam Anderson after they split. The chorus goes:

I found someone new who treats me better
She don't bitch about things we ain't got
When I sing this tune it don't upset her
She's half your age and twice as hot

Posted by: Jadine at May 19, 2009 4:32 PM

You fickle shit
You would spit on me
You would make me spit..."

I'm Still Standing by Elton John
Already Gone by the Eagles

Best bit is that everyone knows the chorus (or the 'yeah, yeah, yeah' part) so you will have the whole party singing.

"The Emperor's New Clothes" - Sinead O'Connor
"What Goes Around Comes Around" - Justin Timberlake
"Happiness is a Warm Gun" - The Beatles, but I also like the cover by the Breeders
"Thorn in My Side," or "Would I Lie to You?" - Eurythmics
"Smile," Lily Allen
"Hung Up" or "Sorry" - Madonna
"Make them Apologize," Ani DiFranco
"You're No Good," Linda Ronstadt
"Hit the Road, Jack," Ray Charles
"These Boots are Made for Walking," Nancy Sinatra

Posted by: jules at May 19, 2009 10:37 PM

RJD2 - Final Frontier
TZU - The Horse You Rode in On

"Fuck you
And your long list of isms
You, and the holes you put pigeons in
Me, and my own inhibitions
And fuck you and you and in addition
You and your patriotism
You and your religionisms
You and your criticisms
And if you don't like it then don't fucking listen!"

A couple more:

"Your Guts (I Hate 'Em)" - Reel Big Fish (use the live version)
"Another F.U. Song" - Reel Big Fish
"Who Do You Think You Are?" - The Producers
"Death on Two Legs" - Queen

"FUCK THE WORLD" by The Insane Clown Posse "The Amazing Jeckel Brothers" is the album it resides on(and yes, I am aware that you all hate ICP) but that dosent negate the point of the song, regardless of the majority of the ICP suckery it's worth a listing to,if you dont like it then you can apply the context of the lyrics to yourself, if the aformentioned boss is a female BITCHES is a wonderfully fem degrading song also on the same album.

Posted by: BIttterChild at May 20, 2009 1:36 PM

Most of the first ones that came to mind have been said already, but I'd like to add:

"The Hour the Ship Comes in" by the master of bitterness himself, Bob Dylan.

"I Quit My Job" by Old Man Leudecke (I quit my job, I'm free today!)

"Frankly, Mr. Shankly" by The Smiths is a good one, if your boss is an elderly poet.

Posted by: Agente Provocatrice at May 20, 2009 6:03 PM

"Ha Ha You're Dead" by Green Day.
Yeah it's about someone being dead but it's the same idea.

Cause look how things have gotten
And I'll be happy so I won't pretend
And I'll be cheering that you're going down
And I'll be laughing, I'll be laughing
