Childhood Celebrity Crushes

An Afternoon Comment Diversion / Dustin Rowles

Comment Diversions | January 14, 2008 | Comments (296)

Ah, childhood celebrity crushes: Those formative Tiger Beat guys and gals who helped to develop your superior tastes in men and women today. God love them. In fact, if it weren’t for New Kids on the Block and a personal resemblance to Jordan Knight (yeah: I rocked the pompadour, right along with stripes shaved into the side of my head and parachute pants), I probably never would’ve gotten a date in high school.

Today’s comment diversion, as suggested by Todd, asks you to look back 10, 15, 25 years to the pinups and posters that adorned your bedroom walls growing up: Whose face do you remember being the last you saw before closing your eyes and entering a sexual fantasy land full of “21 Jump Street” characters and Kelly Bundy?

I’ll get it started, and I suspect there are a lot of heterosexual men born in the mid-70s who share similar childhood crushes:

1) Alyssa Milano (you’ll always be my first love, Alyssa)

2) Phoebe Cates (how I loved Private School and horseback riding)

3) Nicole Eggert (who else was dying for a Jamie Powell spin-off of “Charles in Charge”)

4) Kelly LeBrock (I nearly broke my VCR remote freeze-framing the split-second shot of her ass in Woman in Red)

5) Samantha Fox (Lifesize poster? Guilty.)

Comments

1. Michael J. Fox

2. Kirk Cameron

3. Jordan Knight

4. Ugh--Corey Haim

I'm too embarrassed to try to think of a fifth.

Posted by: sarah at January 14, 2008 12:42 PM

Yay! I get to particpate!

1) LL Cool J (those lips, those muscles) - does it count if the crush is still on?

2) Christopher Reeve

3) Han Solo (not Harrison Ford, mind you)

4) Jonathan Knight from NKOTB

Posted by: Daphne at January 14, 2008 12:44 PM

1. Phoebe Cates

2. Phoebe Cates

3. Phoebe Cates

4. Phoebe Cates

5. Marilu Henner

Posted by: TK at January 14, 2008 12:51 PM

1.) Zack Morris (the character not the actor, Mark-Paul Gosselaar)

2.) Corey Haim (Lost Boys rocks! And I have a soft spot for Kiefer, too.)

3.) River Phoenix (as Chris Chambers from Stand By Me)

4.) Tim Curry (In everything, but particularly Clue. Imagine my surprise when I saw Rocky Horror for the first time.)

Most feared character:
5.) David Bowie as Jareth in Labyrinth (I was so disturbed of him [but in a good way] when I was a little girl, it wasn't until later that I realized his overall hotness was what frightened me. So pervy!)

Posted by: Nanook at January 14, 2008 12:52 PM

Sweet hell, there's someone on the tip of my brain but I can't quite recall who my main CCC was.

I do remember some other players, and I'm aware I'm really date-stamping myself here:

The Classic: Leif Garrett

The Somewhat Off-Centre: Starsky/Paul Michael Glaser

The Just Plain Fucked-Up: Keop from G-Force (yes, I had a thing for toons when I was young; don't get me started on the men of Elfquest).

Posted by: Ranylt at January 14, 2008 12:52 PM

Too much fun:

1. Joe McIntyre, of New Kids fame--every surface of my locker was covered with his picture
2. Ricky Schroeder (that feathered hair, those dimples, he could not have been any cuter)
3. Kirk Cameron

I'm sure there were more but these are definitely the top three.

Posted by: prairiegirl at January 14, 2008 12:53 PM

1. Jonathan Knight (Jordan's lesser liked brother)

2. Murdock from the A-Team

3. Ricky Schroeder

4. Will Smith (Fresh Prince-era)

5. Lou Diampnd Phillips (I still watch Young Guns when I'm sick)

Posted by: Mella at January 14, 2008 12:54 PM

1. Drew Barrymore. Wanted to marry her. Imagine my delight when she grew up and started taking her clothes off. Poison Ivy?

2. Sally Field. When I was a kid, she was a grown woman, but that didn't stop me from getting up super early to watch reruns of The Flying Nun. Still kind of crushing on Sally Field.

3. Kim Cattrail. Mannequin? Changed my life.

4. Lindsay Wagner. This is starting to make me sad.

5. Alyssa Milano. Wrote her a letter, and begged my parents to let me own Commando, simply because she was in it. Also in Poison Ivy.

I find it strange that as a little black kid, I had many crushes on ADULT white women. Ann Jillian was the reason I watched Mr. Mom incessantly.

Posted by: Edwardo at January 14, 2008 12:54 PM

1) Oh Rob Lowe, you pretty pretty boy!

2) Duran Duran - loved them all, but loved Simon a tidge more than the others.

3) Ummm, when I was *very* young, Shaun Cassidy. What?

4) Followed closely by Donny Osmond. Don't you judge me!

5)As boycrazy as I was, I can't think of a 5th. Weird.

Posted by: Lainey at January 14, 2008 12:56 PM

Being only 18, I held crushes with every teen pop star that came out in the late 90's (Britney, Christina, etc.) I also had a weird infatuation with cute cartoon characters, like Penny from Inspector Gadget, and Patty Mayonnaise from Doug. Am I alone in that?

Posted by: Joe! at January 14, 2008 12:57 PM

1. Jonathan Brandis

2. Jonathan Taylor Thomas

3. Colt from Three Ninjas

4. Austin O'Brien from My Girl 2

5. OMG I can't believe I almost forgot them, but definitely both Jack AND David from Newsies. No, they're probably tied for #1.

Posted by: Abbey Road at January 14, 2008 12:58 PM

1. Michael J Fox ALL the way....far above the rest...still have giant crush on him..(a friend's neighbour dated him for 5 years - pics to prove it - and said he's a great guy)

2. C. Thomas Howell (Ponyboy - The Outsiders)

3. Matt Dillon

4. Andrew McCarthy (now I think he's a complete blah - but those John Hughes movies had me on to him)

5. Wayne Gretzky - hey - I'm Canadian

Oy vey there are so many:

1. Donnie Wahlberg-NKOTB Had his picture all over my room

3. There was this actor Chris Young who was on some minor shows and I loved him.
4. Scott Baio-Charles could have been in charge of me (ok I will not do that anymore...of course now...eh not so much.)
5. This is going to sound weird but I had crushes on cartoons. I loved Voltron the lead "cartoon" guy. And there was a cartoon version of Ghostbusters and I liked the blond guy. This is so embarrassing.
6. I also loved Bill Murray. In Ghostbusters (I sense a trend)...I was in LOVE with him.

Posted by: lyricalcatt at January 14, 2008 1:00 PM

1)Ricky Schroeder
2)Leonardo DiCaprio (from Growing Pains--oh how excited I was when he began acting in movies!--then I was disgusted when he became mainstream)
3)Leaf Phoenix (when he was Leaf--Parenthood era)
4)Fred Savage
I wasn't really a big ticket sort of gal after the age of 7...

Posted by: kx2 at January 14, 2008 1:00 PM

Oh man, this is going to be embarassing and in no particular order:

1. Jonathan Brandis (may he rest in peace - I still love Seaquest reruns)
2. Jonathan Knight (I know, I know, I actually liked him instead of Jordan)
3. Joey McIntyre (He was the youngest one, I though tI could relate to him more :p)
4. Leonardo Dicaprio (The Growing Pains years)
5. Wil Wheaton (Shut up! You know you totally wanted to be Ashley Judd in that episode too.)

1. David Duchovny (X-files era. that makes me feel both old and young for some reason)
2. Alexander Siddig (he was the doctor on Star Trek Deep Space 9. Look at that, two sci-fi related crushes. Even as a child I was a nerd.)
3. Aladdin.
4. Andrew McCarthey (Mannequin was one of my favorite movies as a child
5. Cary Elwes (or really, Wesley.)

I'm going to be terrible with names here...

1. Remember "The Adventures of Pete & Pete"? Whoever the girl on there was - I think her name was Ellen.

2. The girl from "Doogie Howser". No friggin clue what her name was.

3. The woman from "Buck Rogers" - Erin Gray perhaps?

4. Maude (aka Bea Arthur - whatta woman!).

5. Lisa from "Saved by the Bell". Horrible show, but since my sister watched it, I had access to it. Plus her real name was bad-ass: Lark Vorhees (sp?).

Posted by: Skittimus Maximus at January 14, 2008 1:12 PM

Brilliant Diversion suggestion Todd!!!

1) Alyssa Milano - first sex dream was about her and I can still remember it to this day...weird no?

2) Miss Elizabeth - WWF Valet and wife of Randy Savage

3) Justine Bateman

4) Lea Thompson - Howard the Duck...right at the end...white cotton underwear and a tiny t-shirt still makes me drool to this day.

5) Danielle Harris - Hells to the yeah!

Posted by: PissBoy at January 14, 2008 1:12 PM

Jennifer Connelly was the one who led me to e-mail Dustin with this idea, since I rewatched Labyrinth recently. What surprises me is that, looking at her IMDb entry, that was about the only thing I would have seen her in during my ten-to-sixteen-or-so period. I sure went crazy over her considering what little I saw of her.

The only other girl I could think of unaided was Christina Applegate. And since Dustin mentioned them, yeah, Kelly LeBrock, Alyssa Milano, and Nicole Eggert were crushes of mine, too.

Posted by: Todd at January 14, 2008 1:12 PM

1. Bobby Sherman
2. David Cassidy
3. Kurt Russell
4. Jan-Michael Vincent

I had a classmate who adored Donny Osmond. She wanted to marry him and have his baby. I never saw the appeal, but to each her own.

Does anyone else share my intense HATRED for Ricky Schroeder???? HATED him. Could not bear that coifed hair and forced dimples.

That said, he turned up somewhat hot in NYPD Blue (?) years later.

Posted by: MC at January 14, 2008 1:14 PM

Elizabeth Shue - Hands down. Dominated my fanatsies for years.

**A shout out to Private School - This one also had a prominent place for me, but I didn't know the name until years later. It was just some film I managed to watch at a friend's when the parents were gone.

1. Howard from Take That, a British boy band. He had a lisp and floppy hair and did back flips.

2. Brad from 'Neighbours'.

3. Joey Lawrence. I feel ashamed.

4. Corey Haim, like others, due to Lost Boys. I'm not sure if I loved him or his coat more though.

5. Rivers from 'Heartbreak High', an Australian teeny soap I was addicted too. He was a Breakfast Club era Judd Nelson type who had an affair with a teacher, which made the 13 year old me very giddy.

Not quite top 5, but I also had a liking for Bobby Brown. Yeah, really.

lyricalcatt - BILL MURRAY RULES - I too love(d) him

Judd Nelson (Breakfast Club was sooo delicious)

Eric Estrada (from CHPS)

Rob Lowe - but only if he's looking down and then glances up quickly - so dreamy

River Phoenix in Stand By Me

Basically, I like smart-asses that smoke or seem dangerous or ride around on motorcycles. Because I am from Europe and every Euro-chic is at the very heart of it all Euro-Trash. At least I know that I am.

1) Jason Bateman. Actually, that might still be true.

2) Parker Stevenson. Everyone else loved Shaun Cassidy, but Frank Hardy just seemed smarter.

3) Jim Reed. That's right, I was a huge Adam-12 fan. I even had the lunch box.

4) Don Grady. I was also a My Three Sons fan, although I only got to see it when I was home sick.

5) John Cusack. I'm tired of him today, but I still love The Sure Thing just like I did in high school.

Ah, childhood crushes. How excruciatingly painful to recall. Here we go!
1. Fred Savage. I had posters of him and watched all of his God-awful movies, such as The Wizard and the one about the monster under the bed. Cripes.
2. Davy Jones. I also watched too many Monkees reruns and developed a crush on the short, accented one. I look back and, ew.
3. Kirk Cameron. I had a poster of him in a black leather jacket and jeans. So pseudo-bad boy of him, yet still better than Zac Efron in any way, shape or form.
4. There was a crappy show called The Guys Next Door that came on Saturdays right before or after Saved By the Bell. I'm pretty sure Damon was my crush's name. He sang a song about having a bad hair day. Awesome.
5. Ryan Lambert. He was in Monster Squad and on Kids Incorporated.
How cathartic yet embarrasing that was.

I'm posting first, reading the rest after, that way I'm not influenced. I'll be squealing over everyone else's picks in a moment.

1. Jonathan Brandis: We shared the same birthday, so I though we were meant to be. Such pretty eyes. Such terrible acting, but that didn't stop me from seeing Ladybugs TWICE in the THEATER.

2. Jordan Knight: Requisite NKOTB crush. Did I like him because of or despite the teeny tiny braid? I'd rather not know.

3. Shane McDermott: Yes, from Airborne. Shut up.

4. Josh Brolin: God, how I wanted Brand to rescue ME from the Fratellis.

5. Alec Baldwin: I thought he was SO HANDSOME in Beetlejuice. SO HANDSOME. And I was EIGHT. The crush continues unabated, despite The Puffy. He's brilliant.

David Bowie, definitely in Labyrinth but mostly Ziggy Stardust.

Billy Idol, specifically brought on by the White Wedding video.

James Spader, one that remains to this day no matter how pudgy and sanctimonious he becomes. I will always love him as Stef in Pretty in Pink, and I would let him do horrible things to me.

Christian Slater, in Heathers or Pump Up the Volume, god I dont care, he was the only Tiger Beat style photo that adorned my locker.

The last one is the only one that embarrasses me, but oh how did I love Richard Marx. The tight acid washed jeans, the uber mullet, and the longing ballads, yeah, I was a sucker for it all.

honorable mention to Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy and, yes, now I KNOW Lainey and I must be the same age, because very, very long ago it was toss-up between Shaun Cassidy and Parker Stevenson. ( I even saw Shaun in CONCERT!!! can you imagine the pre-pubescent vibes in Market Square Arena????

5) Brian Bloom - the super blue eyes and dark hair - oh, yeah.

Posted by: Dangle McGee at January 14, 2008 1:29 PM

Oy vey there are so many:

1. Donnie Wahlberg-NKOTB Had his picture all over my room
2. There was this actor Chris Young who was on some minor shows and I had a major crush. I think he was in Tiger Beat. Oh those magazines.
3. I actually liked Ryan Gosling because he was on some show where high school kids went to different countries on a cruise boat.
4.I too loved me some cartoon guys: I had a crush on the lead guy I think he was the red one. And there was a cartoon version of Ghostbusters and I liked the blond guy. And I liked Prince Eric from Little Mermaid.
5. I also loved Bill Murray. In Ghostbusters (I sense a trend)...I was in LOVE with him.

Posted by: lyricalcatt at January 14, 2008 1:31 PM

It pains me that I'm going to have to echo names that have already been posted. Why didn't these guys love me and me alone? :)

1. Christian Bale (Hello, Newsies and Little Women.)
2. Austin O'Brien
3. Jonathan Brandis
4. Wil Wheaton
5. Jonathan Crombie (The guy who played "Gil" in the Anne of Green Gables movies.)

Posted by: Megan at January 14, 2008 1:31 PM

I was born in the mid-80s (beginning of '84, so early 80's?), so my crushes might be illegal for some of yall, but here goes:

1.) Leonardo Dicaprio. God he was pretty, though I remember being extremely disappointed in his Titanic role. I think I watched Rome & Juliet every day after school for a month, but wasn't sure at the time why I was the only 13-year-old NOT crying at the end of Titanic (answer: because it sucked, but that was an idea my adolescent brain just couldn't grasp).

2.) Colin Firth. When I wasn't watching Romeo & Juliet, I was watching the BBC's Pride & Prejudice (I was also the annoying girl in school who eschewed Babysitters's club books in favor of Austen and the Brontes. Again, it took a while to realize the vast superiority of the former author). Back to Colin Firth- I used to pause and replay the scene of him striding out into the courtyard of Pemberley in a green jacket and some blessedly tight pants. Rowr.

3.) Richard Gere. Jesus, I liked old men when I was 13. Anyway, I thought Gere was the cat's meow in First Knight.

4.) Aladdin and Trent from Daria, for serious. I'm scoring these as two on account of their animated status. Considering my early lust for cartoon characters, it's a miracle I didn't have an appreciation for anime.

5.) Devon Sawa. Man he was bad. But when Casper finally achieved his (adorable) human shape and planted a kiss on Christina Ricci, I was aswoon.

That was kind of more embarrassing than I thought it would be.

Posted by: becca at January 14, 2008 1:31 PM

1. Kirk Cameron (The ultimate non-threatening sex object of the 80's.)

2. Donnie Wahlberg (NKOTB 4-ever. He was the "bad boy." Ha.)

3. Christian Slater (I had a lengthy "bad boy" stage as a pre-teen.)

4. River Phoenix (The only one I still have a crush on.)

5. REO Speedwagon (I thought he was a guy named REO, and that he was singing straight into my soul.)

This crap is embarrassing, but I suppose not that embarrassing considering my current #1 celebrity crush is Joshua Jackson. Shut it, Pacey's hot.

Posted by: Carrie at January 14, 2008 1:32 PM

Unfortunately I was too young to have crushes in the 80s, so mine aren't as colourful as some, but here goes (in no particular order):

Fox Mulder (not David Duchovny, but specifically his paranormally inclined, be-suited alter-ego)

Ricky Schroeder

Devon Sawa (especially in Little Giants)

Jerry O'Connell (Sliders, anyone?)

Max Elliot Slade (3 Ninjas, Apollo 13)

Posted by: Lisa at January 14, 2008 1:32 PM

Great thread Pajiba!!!

1. Joey-Joe McIntyre (three concerts and years of unrequited love...sigh)

2. The blue-eyed "singer" in Milli Vanilli (Fab or Rob, I can't remember?)

3. Michael J. Fox...he's still cute!

4. River Phoenix in Stand By Me...hotness. Sad.

5. Madonna- I wanted to be her/f$ck her/all at the same time...she was so cool.

Posted by: Be Adequite! at January 14, 2008 1:32 PM

1. Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins. My first love. It's a jolly holiday, with you, Bert.. I almost disliked Mary Poppins herself for capturing his fancy. I was really disappointed to learn that he was about 70 at that time. And I was, well, six.

2. Macauley Caulkin. More age-appropriate. He was the 9 year-old's "bad boy"

3. Leo Dicaprio. Yes, I had a poster that I indeed KISSED...

4. Harrison Ford. (Indiana Jones, *orgasm*) He was my intense teenage crush UNTIL:

5. Heath Ledger.

My current grown-up crush is Clive Owen, though, and I'm not too sure I'll get over that one.

now THIS is one that i can hang with...

1. tracy pollan (michael j fox's girlfriend on family ties)
2. phoebe cates. obviously.
3. julie mccullough (kirk cameron's first serious girlfriend on...whatever that show was). then she grew up and showed up in playboy...hoo-ah!
4. connie needham - the long-haired one in 'eight is enough.'
5. and ally sheedy...

1. Johnathan Brandis, when he did Good King Wenceslas. That was when we first got cable, and they were playing the promo for that movie every five minutes on Preview Guide. I would race to the tv every time to see his face. I told my family it was because I liked the theme song, but they knew better.

2. Will Smith. Not just on the Fresh Prince, but Made in America, too. He was so cute with glasses.

3. Vincent Kartheiser, from that movie Alaska. I think it was the hair.

4. Nick Carter. Actually taped his Got Milk? ad on my locker door.

LyricalCatt, cartoon crushes aren't that weird. I had a serious thing for anime guys.

!!! Megan, I'm so with you. And I had a major girl crush on Anne (Meghan Follows).

Concerning the Ghostbusters love, I always adored Bill Murray, but I can't believe I forgot how attracted I was to Egon. Yeah, I said it, EGON. I think I liked how he ate twinkies.

1. Bobby Sherman-"Here Comes the Brides"
2. David Cassidy-"The Partridge Family"
3. Kurt Russell-child actor in some forgettable Disney flicks
4. Jan-Michael Vincent-I think he was in Disney stuff, too
5. Vinnie Barbarino (NOT John Travolta)-"Welcome Back, Kotter"

Posted by: rlr260 at January 14, 2008 1:38 PM

Mel Gibson - A couple of years ago, I was looking for some posters to brighten the walls of my darkly paneled office, and came across some I had from high school. I had a cover of Rolling stone with his face on it circa 1986ish. He just seems so crazy and creepy now!

Eddie Van Halen - yes in that poster tube was an insert from Guitar magazine with him and his long feathered hair and a cigarette in the neck of his guitar. Again a guy who just seems crazy and creepy now.

Kevin Bacon - Not crazy or creepy these days, but man was I a HUGE fan of Footloose and his "sticky-outy" hair.

Andy Gibb - I had one of those iron-on tshirts of him.

The other guy from the Hardy Boys - Shaun Cassidy's adams apple always freaked me out!

Posted by: mswas at January 14, 2008 1:39 PM

I can't believe I forgot these two:

4. Christopher Atkins (from either Blue Lagoon or The Pirate Movie)
5. Rob Lowe (who looks much more attractive these days as he's less "pretty" than he was then)

Now my list is complete.

Posted by: prairiegirl at January 14, 2008 1:39 PM

Ahem.

First crush (from age 6-now) Capt. Jean-Luc Picard. And that was his actual name, too, because I was six.
2.) Prince.
3.) Cristina Ricci as Wednesday Adams (girl crush)
4.) Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones.
5.) LL Cool J.

What a weird, weird little kid I was...

But seriously, Patrick Stewart? Yes please.

Posted by: that bees chick at January 14, 2008 1:39 PM

Dang, I forgot Meredith Salenger, a.k.a. Lainie from Dream a Little Dream! I'm not embarrassed to say I was crazy about her, but I'm not too proud that that was my favorite movie for a little while, before I had a brain.

3. Ted from Hey Dude.

That's really about all I can remember for sure. I had absolutely no taste.

2. Jonathan Brandis (He was so pretty and non-threatening)

3. Jonathan Knight (I never liked Jordan because of his hair but for some reason the shy Jonathan was a hottie)

4. River Phoenix (I loved him in every movie he did and thought he was emotionally troubled hot.)

5. Brad Renfro (Wasn't really attracted to him until I saw Tom and Huck then lost the attraction after Bully.)

3. Christian Slater - Interview with the Vampire
4. Fred Savage
5. Brad Pitt - Also Interview with the Vampire and A River Runs Through It.

Ranging from about 89-92. the age 13-16 bracket.
1. Staci Kenan- On My two dads mostly. I was over her by the time Step by Step came along.

2. Danica McKellar (Winnie Cooper)- She looks a lot like this girl I knew in school. (I know, that was the point...everyone knew a Winnie Cooper)

3. Animated: Jem, from Jem and the Holograms

4. Debbie Gibson-way hotter than Tiffany (she wrote her own songs. Come on!)

5. and, in the really embarrassing dept.: Blossom (Mayim Bialik), from Blossom. There, I said it!

And, one from the post '92 category (that is, still crushin' on her): Madchen Amick-Shelly from Twin Peaks (Yowza!)

I don't know most of these actresses names. Hell, I don't even know the names of their characters. But these are the performances (nude scenes) that propelled me from youth to adolescence a few years early.

1) Phoebe Cates. Because.
2) That one girl who got totally naked in that one scene in "Bachelor Party" - you remember the bit, she's tempting Tom Hanks and he doesn't sleep with her because he's in love with his wife and then he hallucinates other people talking to him, his fiancee, his best friend, a nun. But she was totally naked. and I was 8.
3) the entire female cast of Porkys. That was an amazing shower scene.

3) James Garner in the Rockford Files era

4) John Cusack

5) Harrison Ford

honorable mention to Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy and, yes, now I KNOW Lainey and I must be the same age, because very, very long ago it was toss-up between Shaun Cassidy and Parker Stevenson. ( I even saw Shaun in CONCERT!!! can you imagine the pre-pubescent vibes in Market Square Arena????

Don't remember the year, but I lived in Aurora, Colorado when Johnathan Brandis and Rodney Dangerfield filmed "Ladybugs".

It seemed that more than half of the girls in my middle school were absent that day and later, my mother confirmed that on her way home from work, there were mobs of teen girls milling about the soccer fields where they were filming.

I was lying about Bea Arthur, by the way. I'd totally hang out with her for an afternoon, but there is no sexual interest there... She'd destroy me.

3. Icheb, from Star Trek: Voyager. He showed up in one season as a teenage former borg drone, and I was in love.

4. N*Sync... I was never able to choose a favorite.

SHIT! %*&#(%&#)U$()&*!!! How did I leave off Heath Ledger? And, btdubs, he had the best lines of any teen heartthrob EVER. Case in point:

"What's with this chick? She have beer-flavored nipples or something?"

OMG, I'm yelling in type because I loved him so very much. A Knight's Tale? Gaaaahhhhhhh. And don't tell me I'm the only lady who got super worked up by all the tension-filled Brokeback lovin'. I love that movie on its merits, but I'd watch it any time just to see Heath and Jake make angry love together. Hell, I'd watch the awkward sex his character had with Michelle Williams again and again.

OK, I'm stopping now. I need a cigarette or a cold shower.

As an only child (and rather unpopular with real live boys), I had a lot of time on my hands to concoct celebrity crushes, so there were many. Here were my biggies:

1. River Phoenix-My first love. From "Stand By Me" and "Mosquito Coast" days. When I found out he died, I spent the whole day depressed and then got plastered.

2. Christian Bale-Beginning with "Empire of the Sun", I have always had a thing for The Bale. Indeed, I own a copy of "Newsies".

3. Keifer Sutherland- I had promo photo sheets from "Young Guns" and two "Lost Boys" posters on my wall.

4. Johnny Depp- Somewhere, I still have the original "Cry Baby" poster that once adorned a wall in our extra bedroom.

5. Christian Slater- This is my still slowly simmering crush, even though he lost some of his former hotness to a receding hairline and Botox addiction. As a teen, I used to refer to him as my husband. For my birthday one year, a friend gutted what was probably a dozen teeny bopper magazines and gave me a stack of Christian Slater pictures. In college, the "True Romance" poster stared down from over my bed.

**Someone mentioned Riki Rachtman of the old Head Bangers Ball! I thought he was so foxy that(before he cut his hair) I watched that show despite a total apathy for metal music.

2.Taylor Hanson (cringe)

3.Leo di Caprio (yes I know, I'm ashamed)

4.The cute one from Kris Cross or whatever they were called

5.Eddie Murphy (oh god)

2. Corey Haim (Remember when he was young and so cute, not gross and fat? He was soooo cute in Lost Boys)

3. Christian Bale (I loved him in Empire of the Sun, and then he was so hot as a bad kid in Swing Kids. I still lurve him and his abs of steel.)

4. Christian Slater (Heathers was one of my favorite movies growing up, and is still an all time fav. He was just so mysterious and gravely.)

5. Michael Biehn (Aliens and Terminator were two of my mom's favorite movies, so I really grew up watching him over and over, and he was so smokin' hot. This might have contributed to me marrying a military guy.)

2. David Moscow and Christian Bale in Newsies!
3. Zack Morris, of course.
4. Jonathan Brandis (I love that I'm apparently not the only one!)
5. Ethan Embry in Empire Records and That Thing You Do. So cute. Though apparently not anymore because he got old and that makes me depressed.

I was unwaveringly faithful in my crush on Elijah Wood. What a hottie. Those eyes, mm, mm, mm. Now he at times borders on creepy. Maybe it's the facial hair. Maybe it's that puppet master dance he did on that kids show. Maybe it was the incredibly gay scene at the end of LOTR where they're all laughing and jumping on the bed (and I don't mean gay as in bad, here, I mean gay as in totally homosexual). My love for him has waned (and been intensified and retargeted toward Christian Bale) but I'll always remember my 11-year-old obsession with Huck Finn.

1) Joanna Kerns - Kirk Cameron's mom Mrs. Seaver on "Growing Pains." I still would like to get in there.

2) Barbara Babcock - Esterhaus's girlfriend on "Hill Street Blues." (Also, various hotties on "Star Trek")

3) Meredith Baxter Birney - "Family Ties" Mom

4) Susan Dey - Partridge Family older sister, but my interest, um, grew when she was on "L.A. Law."

5) Farah Fawcett Majors -- Hey, they can't all be fetishistic.

1. the boy from "Escape from Witch Mountain" (I think his name was Ike Eisenman)...I had a really heart-wrenching crush on him.

2. Leif Garrett.

I'm not just feeling old, I am old.

Posted by: lateformyfuneral at January 14, 2008 2:13 PM

1. David Bowie. I watched The Labyrinth every damn day for a year just to see him in those tights.
2. Cary Elwes. And by Cary Elwes, I of course mean Westley. Sigh.
3. Yul Brynner. The main reason The King And I & The Ten Commandments were two of my favorite movies.
4. Jeff Goldblum. Jurassic Park, natch.
Surprisingly, all those still stand. The only one I really can't fathom today:
5. Donnie Osmond. I saw him in Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat when I was about 5 or 6. He did a solo in a loin cloth and I was hooked. Wow, that's really creepy.

We should do same-sex childhood celebrity crushes next.

Posted by: serena at January 14, 2008 2:13 PM

Don't remember the year, but I lived in Aurora, Colorado when Johnathan Brandis and Rodney Dangerfield filmed "Ladybugs".

It seemed that more than half of the girls in my middle school were absent that day and later, my mother confirmed that on her way home from work, there were mobs of teen girls milling about the soccer fields where they were filming.

I was lying about Bea Arthur, by the way. I'd totally hang out with her for an afternoon, but there is no sexual interest there... She'd destroy me.

Posted by: Skittimus Maximus at January 14, 2008 2:14 PM

In chronological order...this list really dates me...

1. Andy Gibb
2. Leif Garrett
3. David Cassidy
4. Rob Lowe
5. Michael Schoeffling (Jake Ryan from Sixteen Candles)

Posted by: jayco at January 14, 2008 2:14 PM

This is fun!!

1. Joe McIntyre. I REALLY was convinced I was going to marry him.
2. Ralph Macchio aka Daniel LaRussa from the Karate Kid.
3. Joey Lawrence (Give Me A Break era, as well as Blossom)

Posted by: jennyebnl at January 14, 2008 2:15 PM

I probably had fantasies about every single female mentioned so far. It isn't that hard when you have been crushing on girls since you were 4.

1) Holly Robinson (since somebody had to bring up 21 Jump Street)

2) Nearly every female Power Ranger that ever was

3) Alyssa Milano (for blatantly obvious reasons)

4) Erica Luttrell (from Shining Time Railroad and Salute Your Shorts)

5) Marina Sirtis (Troi from ST:TNG. Hell, she made a genocidal gargoyle sexy as fuck with that voice.)

Posted by: Vermillion at January 14, 2008 2:16 PM

1. Christopher Reeves - Superman made me all tingly in strange and wonderful places.
2. Michael Shoeffling (sp?) - Jake Ryan, "Sixteen Candles" hotness. The ultimate crush of the 80s.
3. Gregory Peck - Atticus Finch in "To Kill a Mockingbird". Oooooh, baby. Yummy, yummy.
4. Jason Bateman - he was a jackass on "Silver Spoons" but so much better looking than Ricky Schroeder.
5. Alan Ruck - Cameron from "Ferris Bueller" (Big ups to you Christina. You have good taste)
I just wanted to take Cameron and love him and comfort him and make him mine. Sloan can keep Ferris.

Posted by: jen310 at January 14, 2008 2:18 PM

I'm so glad to see that other people had crushes on cartoon characters.

1. the pilot duck from Ducktails? My mind is blanking on the name.
2. The dude from the Monkees who wore the ski cap, thanks to Nick-at-Night reruns. Actually, I think I had a crush on Peter, too.
3. Johnathon Taylor Thomas. I think this is the most shameful.
4. Michael J. Fox. Family Ties is awesome.

Posted by: Kt at January 14, 2008 2:18 PM

1. Jonathan Knight-New Kids-I was OBSESSED with the New Kids and totally bought into all the merchandising. I had the posters, buttons, dolls, etc. but also owned the pillowcase, bed spread and PHONE. After seeing Juno twice in the theater now I'd love to pretend that I was as cool as her with her hamburger phone, but no, I had a New Kids on the Block phone. And I loved it. sigh. Middle school was tough for me.

2. Christian Bale- also a big fan of Newsies and a big fan of his in Little Women. Thought Jo was a flipping idiot.

3. Jonathan Brandis-I forgot that he died. Sadness.

4. Bender (Judd Nelson) from the Breakfast Club-first time I saw the appeal in the "bad boy"

5. Michael Schoeffling (sp?)-played Jake Ryan in Sixteen Candles and then also showed up in Mermaids and Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken. He always reminded of Matt Dillon, but hotter and with "sensitive eyes".

Posted by: Sarah at January 14, 2008 2:25 PM

Winnie Cooper - can't remember her real name and am too lazy to look it up. She's forever burned in my mind as Winnie.

Gillian Anderson

Tiffani Amber-Thiessen

Phoebe Cates

I can't believe it, but I'm having a hard time coming up with a good #5... Princess Buttercup, maybe?

Posted by: Mattfactor at January 14, 2008 2:25 PM

Hmm, due in part to having very limited TV choices growing up, I have a couple of oddballs in my list. Frankly, I'd only admit these crushes to people who happen to be (a) very cool and (b) strangers. So, consider yourselves lucky(?).

1: Pavel Chekov (Walter Koenig). My crush on the navigator of the Enterprise led me to have a little Russophilia that is with me still.

2: Ricardo Montoya (George Perez) in a 1991 movie called Toy Soldiers...he was so shy, and SO dreamy.

3: Juan Epstein, the Sweathog. That's about as bad-boy as my tastes have ever run.

4: Though I grew up in the era of NKOTB, it was only after the height of their popularity that I decided Jonothan was actually pretty cute. My tastes have never gone with the flow.

Bonus girlcrush: Bailey Quarters on WKRP. Awesome are the meek.

Posted by: MO at January 14, 2008 2:25 PM

I grew up in Japan and for the life of me can't remember the most of my Japanese CCC , but there is few in Hollywood I liked.

1) Uma Thurman
2)Phoebe Cates
3)Mia Sara
4)Winona Rider

Looks like I was deep in the 80's movies.

2. Leif Garrett.

I'm not just feeling old, I am old.

Posted by: lateformyfuneral at January 14, 2008 2:28 PM

Hard for me to remember that far back, but I am pretty sure it would have included:

1) Heather Thomas (for that pink bikini poster noted above)

2) Erin Grey. (Mmmm, Colonel Deering, Mmm....)

3) Elle Macpherson (what can I say, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit magazine was the closest thing to "porn" I had access to growing up)

4) 3) Paulina Porizkova

5) Cybil Danning (sci-fi/horror queen)

Posted by: Ajax19 at January 14, 2008 2:29 PM

Waaa...there were only 8 when I first tried to post this. I never get in early. Well, here we go:

Hmmm, in no particular order...

1) Jason Patrick - Lost Boys, yay!!

2) Tim Curry - His voice alone in Legend made me tingle.

3) Scott Baio - I'm sooooo ashamed now, but I thought he was cute in Charles In Charge.

4) Cary Grant - Seriously. I saw Topper for the first time when I was about five...I knew quality hotness when I saw it.

5) Some kid named Alistair (sp?) in You Can't Do That On Television - I couldn't really tell you what he looked like, but I remember thinking he was totally cute. God, I loved that show.

Posted by: pinkcheese at January 14, 2008 4:21 PM

dammitjanet - I think we're probably around the same age. Shaun Cassidy was my FIRST concert!!! My supercool babysitter took me to see him and my 8 year-old self was all aquiver. I had Shaun pillowcases I used to make out with, which in retrospect seem kind of creepy...*sigh* WHY am I confessing this?

Posted by: Lainey at January 14, 2008 4:23 PM

damn, i kinda wish i wasn't an infant at the height of phoebe cates' popularity. but here are the early 90s babes...with 'the moment i found true love':

1) jodie foster - maverick dress
2) daisy fuentes - an m&m commercial giggling
3) bridget fonda - point of no return poster
4) winona ryder - edward scissorhands tenderness and furthered by reality bites snarkiness
5) christina ricci - now and then taping (if you've seen it, you know what i mean) followed by her voice on the simpsons as erin, one of the cool kids at the beach that lisa attempts to be friends with: "scanning for sarcasm...it's clean! go!"

Posted by: vinniedelpino at January 14, 2008 4:23 PM

Okay, one more and I'm done: the girl in Billy Idol's "Rock the Cradle of Love" video. I mean, Tawny Kitaen was awesome in the Whitesnake videos, but that girl drove me so insane that even now when I think of RTCOL I have to take deep breaths to calm myself.

Posted by: Todd at January 14, 2008 4:24 PM

Wow, I'm not the only one who preferred Jonathan Knight of all the NKOTB? I think I was the only one in my class who liked him the best.

Posted by: Kris at January 14, 2008 4:30 PM

1) Raine Maida (of Our Lady Peace)
2) Josh Hartnett (In retrospect, kind of gross!)
3) Spike on Buffy (and that's not going away any time soon.)
4) Ricky Martin (Just fuck off.)
5) The guy who played Cody in Student Bodies -- I'm too damn ashamed to IMDB it.

Posted by: Jams at January 14, 2008 4:34 PM

Ok, Jeez, just how many times did my post go through???? Sorry folks!

BTW, I can't believe I forgot about Jonathan Crombie; he was so cute! Not to mention Christian Slater, Matthew Broderick (hush - I loved Lady Hawke) and Parker Stevenson (from the days of Baywatch.)

I'd rather not admit my cartoon/anime crushes; they're a few too numerous for comfort.

Posted by: pinkcheese at January 14, 2008 4:36 PM

1. Jordan Knight and Joey McIntyre from NKOTB. I still recall attending a New Kids concert with some fellow 4th grade girlfriends and...my mom (awesome), and my mom making us leave because Jordan took his shirt off (which she evidently thought was indecent). HELLO! She robbed me of what could have been the best experience of my young life. Also, I would (no joke) constantly daydream about the New Kids' limo/tour bus/whatever breaking down in front of my house, forcing them to use my telephone to call for help. Of course Joey and Jordan would fall in love with me and likely fight over me. Boys, boys...there's enough to go around.
2. Jonathan Brandis. Ladybugs. I watched the shit out of that, even though I couldn't stand Rodney Whats-his-nuts even back then.
3. Jake Gyllenhaal. Oh wait, that's not a childhood crush; that's a present crush. Ever since Donnie Darko.

I obviously have a thing for pretty boys.

Posted by: tt_marie at January 14, 2008 4:45 PM

1. Cheryl Ladd reigned supreme
2. P.J. Soles in everything from Carrie to R&RHS
3. Jessica Lange (thanks, Kong)
4. Tatum O'Neal in BNB
5. Tanya Tucker for some reason

All blondes, yet once I grew up I preferred brunettes. I guess the blondes are still up on that pedestal....

Posted by: sansho1 at January 14, 2008 4:46 PM

This is an awesomely fun diversion, I had so many embarrassing crushes as a child. These were probably my top 5:

1. Zack Morris/Mark Paul Gosselaar
2. Luke Perry/Dylan McKay
3. Jake Ryan/Michael Schoeffling
4. Luke Skywalker/ Mark Hammell
4. Commander Will Riker/Jonathan Frakes

Yup, I was kinda a Trekkie. Whatever, I'm not ashamed.

Posted by: citizen_cris at January 14, 2008 4:50 PM

1. Ricky Schroeder
2. Jason Bateman (this crush has only increased!)
3. Michael J. Fox
4. Balthazar Getty (when Lord of the Flies came out-although he's still lookin' good)
5. Ethan Hawke (Dead Poets timeframe-now he is greasy and douchey)

Posted by: jillster85 at January 14, 2008 4:54 PM

5. Tanya Tucker for some reason

You know what? Forget the "for some reason" part. I just looked up some old pics -- she was hot with a second capital "T" on the end.

I only get 5? There were so many! I guess I'll do the top 5:

1. Donny Osmond - I carried the album cover of the "Donny & Marie: Songs from the TV Show" record to school with me every day.
2. Rick Springfield - My first concert!
3. Christopher Atkins - I had the poster of him as a male stripper from "A Night in Heaven" on my wall for years!
4. Davy Jones - From reruns of "The Monkees" - I'm not that old...yet!
5. (But number one in my heart to this day)Peter Frampton. I love that man so very much!

Posted by: SugarKane at January 14, 2008 5:01 PM

1. Brad Pitt (courtesy of A River Runs Through It and Interview With the Vampire)
2. Christian Bale (Newsies and Swing Kids were watched almost every weekend with my cousin)
3. Christian Slater (I watched Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves more times than I care to count)

I can't come up with any more... though I think I may be the only girl my age who didn't have a crush on one of the boys from NKOTB.

Posted by: MMM at January 14, 2008 5:02 PM

Leonardo Dicaprio: Titanic was big, he was young and famous, I was just drawn to him.

Posted by: Ben at January 14, 2008 5:03 PM

In no particular order:

1. Steve Martin (My original celeb crush, ever since I first saw Three Amigos)
2. Mike Mussina (as an Oriole, pre-evil empire incarnation. Pinstripes turn me off.)
3. Alan Jackson (Not really sure where this one came from. Props to one of the few who truly pull off the just-stache)
4. Chris O'Donnell (Crushed after his brief scene in Fried Green Tomatoes. You know it's for real when you voluntarily see The Bachelor and Vertical Limit.)
5. Kyle Chandler (Loved him first as the baseball player on Homefront, and now even more on FNL.)

2. had a very embarassing thing for corey haim (and never understood the mad love for "the other" corey...). sadly watched lost boys even more times than gleaming the cube
3. had a more respectable (but much less obsessive) crush on river phoenix, circa sneakers

that bees chick- I feel you on the love for Capt. Picard. I was, like, 9, when I watched Star Trek and I still thought he was yummy. I also wanted to be the woman with curly brown hair- what was her name?

Speaking of Star Trek: Enterprise, my boyfriend told me last night that James Spader played Data. Is that possible? True? If so, it completely alters my worldview. Data as sexual (because James Spader is practically anonymous with sexuality)? Whoa.

Thirdly, for the Tom Selleck lovers- my dad looks JUST like Tom Selleck. It's creepy. My mom watches Las Vegas just to see Tom Selleck, and I'm like, dude, you were married to his doppelganger, get over it. But I digress.

I can't even begin to ponder what it probably means that I was hot for two brothers, want to be their cousin, and want to make out with them. Then again, this comment diversion is a little pervy...

Sweet Moses, Todd - How could I EVER forget that girl from Billy Idol's "Rock the Cradle"?

I would haul-ASS home from school (tenth grade) to catch that video on MTV Video Countdown (yes, they DID play videos on MTV at one time).

Gawd, just the thought of that video gives me the... I feel dirty. But yeah, she was s-m-o-k-i-n!

(hopefully this doesn't post forty times, as did my original comment...)

Tanner from the Bad News Bears

Rick Springfield. That was my first serious crush. I would pretend to be sick in order to stay home and watch General Hospital. And John Stamos was on there too. Ha.

The Outsiders, mostly Rob Lowe. My second fave was Emilio Estevez. God, that movie is fantastic. All of them were cute, except for Tom Cruise. I would read the book over and over and make myself cry. Too bad my parents didn't get a vcr until after I moved out, then I could have watched the movie a million times and bawled some more.

John Taylor from Duran Duran

2) Jacques Cousteau: That accent! That passion for science!

3) Spock: Sexy voice, and I always cringed at (but sceretly grooved on) the episodes where he "lost control"

4) Danny Bonaduce. He was different then...

5) Bruce Davison. Willard! I saw him in "The Elephant Man" on broadway and wrote him a hormonal teen fan letter, and he wrote me a really sweet reply. Became an Osacr nominee for "Longtime Companion"!

3. Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting did come out a while ago, and I was in high school, AND I need someone redeeming on this list)

2. Michael J. Fox (love me some Alex P. Keaton, even if he was a moneygrubbing Republican; also, "Back to the Future" was da bomb)

3. Fred Savage (ahh...the poignancy of "Wonder Years," and don't forget "Little Monsters"!!

4. Joseph Gordon-Levitt (loved him even when he was a smartass, long-haired alien)

3. Patrick Stewart - I am so down with the Picard love. And the voice, hmmmmmm.

2. Alan Ruck - OMG, I was in love with him. Between Cameron and his character in Three for the Road (Charlie Sheen, Kerri Green), I was hooked. (Before you ask, yes, I was an odd adolescent.)

Becca,
Brent Spiner played Data on ST:TNG. Although he was pretty hot when he played his evil alter ego Lall. And the woman with curly brown hair was Troi/Marina Sirtis. Yes, I am a Trekkie, too.

it's all shameful
in chron order:

1-Michael Jackson circa Billie Jean
2-Alex P. Keaton (but NOT Marty McFly)
3-George McFly (see above)
4-Jason Batemen on "the Hogans"
5-Matthew Brodrick (Wargames & Ferris Bueller)

I also had a firmly adolescent crush on David Silver (10th-12th grade) that got me no love. people that like Steve Saunders would mock me. I guess I have a nerd thing.

Posted by: mss at January 14, 2008 6:07 PM

I'm having trouble with this one. Partly because I can't remember who they were, and partly because I'm having trouble drawing a line between 'childhood' crushes and the celebrity crushes I still have at 22 (today! happy birthday to me...).

I do remember thinking all the girls in my grade at school were complete imbeciles (and as a 10 year old I probably even used that word because I had a ridiculously advanced vocabulary) because they were all in love with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonathon Taylor Thomas, but I didn't form celebrity crushes like normal 10 year old...mostly I think I was just being non-conformist...I do know I mostly crushed over way older men...like, in their 30s when I was 12...but who the fuck were they?

OK, my hazy memory has brought forth my two most embarrassing ones...Antonio Banderas, following 'Evita' - I was young, OK? And for some reason I can remember having a massive crush on Charlie Sheen, but I don't know why...ugh...that one makes me throw up in my mouth a little...

My list...

1. First and forever, Matt Dillon.
2. I had a Shaun Cassidy phase, sadly.
3. John Schneider. I was in the fan club. As an adult, I've come to appreciate the glory of Tom Wopat.

3) Devon Sawa and JTT, because really they may as well be the same person now
4) For the little lesbian in me: Lea Thompson as the fake French villain in the remake of The Beverly Hillbillies. Is that weird?
5) The host from Legends of the Hidden Temple, I thought he was so cute. What was his name? Kirk or Kurt or something?

Posted by: VeinsRHiways at January 14, 2008 6:26 PM

OMG Punky Brewster

Posted by: TL at January 14, 2008 6:26 PM

I'm sorry, strike my last comment and replace it with these two words: Jake Ryan. Swoon.

Posted by: VeinsRHiways at January 14, 2008 6:27 PM

as soon as I saw this comment diversion I was all exited, for christ's sake I had my first crash when I was three! for a police man! oh yeah i was a slut. So here I come, my little whory self ready to declare her many loves, and then I see the Jonathan Brandis, may he rest in peace comment and i'm: WHAT? WHEN? IS THIS A JOKE? how the fuck did I miss that one of my major crush growing up died? HOW? and in such a awful way? now I'm crashed.
I guess I was in a pop culture coma back in 2003. I mean Jonathan Brandis managed to make me prefer Bastain to Atreyu, who was my first movie crush ever (to be fair the guy that played the part in the first one was dreamy, the one in the second one? not so much).

Posted by: rio at January 14, 2008 6:48 PM

1) Ryan Gosling (from the Young Hercules days 'til now, 'sigh')
2) the entire cast of Newsies - but especially Christian Bale
3) Judd Nelson circa Breakfast Club
4) Geez this is embarrassing, but I also had a huge crush on the lead cartoon guy from Voltron.
5) Bill Pullman (no, I'm not even cool enough to cite Spaceballs; it was While You Were Sleeping).

Posted by: LynnB at January 14, 2008 6:55 PM

Okay, here are mine:

Michael J. Fox, starting from Alex P. Keaton and continuing to the present.

Patrick Swayze from Dirty Dancing.

Christian Bale from Empire; he was only a little older than me and I was obsessed. Didn't get the movie, but knew Bale was destined for hotness.

Christian Slater circa Pump Up the Volume and True Romance.

Matt Dillon as the older sexy deeply pained quite man in Mermaids. Yummy.

And a bonus sixth, since I was an odd duck as a child, I really loved Jimmy Stewart as a little kid. I wanted to be Donna Reed and marry him in the 1940s when I grew up.

Posted by: Jen at January 14, 2008 6:56 PM

#5. Nuno Bettencourt from Extreme
#4. Half the cast of Dead Poets' Society
#3. Christian Bale in Newsies
#2. Johnny Depp in 21 Jumpstreet
#1 with a bullet. Atreyu in the NeverEnding Story. I think I love him even more now that he has tattoos. *sigh*

Posted by: Gabrielle at January 14, 2008 6:59 PM

I cannot believe our collective crush shame broke Pajiba. Perhaps we could have a diversion asking the shittiest movie that we sat through solely for the purpose of eyeing our object of lust. Or has that been done?

Posted by: Dangle McGee at January 14, 2008 6:59 PM

1. Eric Estrada
My mom likes to remind me that I would kiss the TV screen whenever I saw the opening theme to CHiPS. Thanks, mom.

2. Lyle Waggoner
(what? I always have liked older men)

3. Mickey Dolenz

4. Tie: Gil Gerard/John Schneider/Tom Selleck

5. I wasn't going to share this one, but since others have already gone there...Launchpad McQuack. Don't you judge me! Unless you are Kt.

rlr260: Kurt Russell is hot in the here & now. I would give Stuntman Mike a lap dance for free.

Posted by: ohgrl at January 14, 2008 7:09 PM

Embracing the geekdom and giving it a big wet one to boot...
Smello: It's actually Lore. As in science & reason vs. myth & emotion.

If Pajiba ever has a comment diversion of college crushes, Brent Spiner will be top of the list.

1. john taylor of duran duran
2. christian slater circa gleaming the cube
3. rob lowe aka sodapop

Donny Osmond
Marie Osmond (my girl crush)
David Cassidy
Howard Keel (I fell in love when I saw Seven Brides for Seven Brothers on TV as a pre-teen)
Micheal Jackson before he got his monkey and began having sleep-overs with little boys)

Posted by: Jules at January 14, 2008 7:59 PM

Oh, wait. At the tender age of eleven, I first saw Quiz Show and developed a massive crush on Rob Morrow. You know how guys get 30% more attractive if their wearing a tux or have a sexy accent? Because of Rob Morrow in Quiz Show, Boston accents totally count.

Posted by: LynnB at January 14, 2008 8:01 PM

I had to use the power of the internet to recall some of these names, but I enjoyed the trip down hormone-induced 80s TV memory lane. In no particular order:

1. April Lerman (Lila on season 1 of Charles in Charge)
2. Jennifer Runyun (Gwendolyn Pierce, from Charles...)
3. Khrystyne Haje (Head of the Class..and the beginning of my love of the redheads)
3. Allison Smith (the redhead daughter from Kate & Alli...see?)
4. Maureen Flannigan (Out of this World)
5. Olivia Burnette (The Torklesons)

But some honorable mentions:
- Soleil Moon Frye (more so now than back in the Punky Brewster days)
- Dana Playto (Finally someone mentioned her, Richmac!)
- Connie Sellecca (Greatest American Hero)
- Markie Post (Night Court..and Fall Guy??)
- Donna Dixon (Bosom Buddies)
- Stephanie Zimbalast (Hart to Hart)
- Kate Jackson (Scarecrow & Mrs. King)

Posted by: Lincoln at January 14, 2008 8:11 PM

Vincent Van Patten (he just had this all American surfer boy coolness that was totally absent in his elders -- Dick & Joyce Van Patten, who are brother & sister)
Scott Jacoby (title character in "Bad Ronald", Jodie Foster's bf in "The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane", Bea Arthur's son on "The Golden Girls", also Martin Sheen's son in early gay epic "That Certain Summer")
Wayne Rogers (Trapper John on M*A*S*H, he of the twinkly eyes, curly blonde hair, and buff bod)
Billy Crystal as Jodie on "Soap"
Chevy Chase. I was 15 when SNL first came on the air, and he was the bomb. Magnificent ass on that man.

Posted by: Matt at January 14, 2008 8:26 PM

If 5 is the max, well here's the first five i remember:

1. Corey Haim
2. Jonathan Brandis
3. Edward Furlong
4. Jonny Lee Miller (His 'Hackers' style was the shit)
5. Andrew McCarthy (I second all the mad props to 'Mannequin')

honorable mentions:
Bastian from 'Neverending Story'
Henry Thomas
Keanu Reeves/River Phoenix - 'My Own Private Idaho' made them so dreamy!

Posted by: Teresa at January 14, 2008 8:30 PM

1. Christian Slater
2. God, I honestly can't think of another. I think it was ALL about Christian for many, many years. In fact, I now need to rent Pump Up the Volume, Heathers, and even (ech) Robin Hood: Prince of Theives again, just thinking about it.

Posted by: claregirl at January 14, 2008 8:45 PM

in no particular order:

Alyssa Milano, but only during her Who's the Boss? days.
The Brat Pack girls, especially Molly and Ally.
Robin Givens on Head of the Class.
All three Saved by the Bell girls.
Lisa Bonet
The girls on Twin Peaks, especially Sheryl Lee and Sherilyn Fenn (she posed in Playboy sometime just after the original mini-series aired. I was in the eighth grade. I still have that copy somewhere in a box).
Winona Ryder
Winnie Cooper
Geena Davis
The girl that played Pandora on "The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4".
Louise Jameson who played Leela on Doctor Who.
Betty, Veronica, Midge and Josie and the Pussycats.
Claudia from Milo Manara's first Click! series.

But the number one, all time, longest running crush - and guys, back me up on this one - Princess Leia. Especially gold bikini Princess Leia.

Posted by: causaubon at January 14, 2008 8:53 PM

1. Becky Slater (I always thought she had it together more than Winnie Cooper, plus, she's really Danica's little sister)

2. Christina Ricci in "Adams Family". Is that horrible?

3. Sarah Chalke, "Roseanne" era (although I could hardly stand the show itself)

4. Anne Suzuki from a Japanese drama called "Aoi Tori" that I became obsessed with at age 13 (don't ask).

5. Miho Kanno from another Japanese drama (entitled "Koi ga shitai" . . . for a thirteen year old, it's kind of weird that I latched onto Japanese mini-series which were shown on Southern California Asian TV channels rather than the then-current Japanese megatrend that was "Pokemon")

On a side note, does any one remember the "Little Debbie" episode of "The Wonder Years", in which Kevin's forced to take Paul's little sister to a dance? I'll be damned if that doesn't rank right up there with "Rushmore" as one of the most perfect things ever committed to the visual medium.

Posted by: Fernando at January 14, 2008 8:56 PM

I had no idea Jonathan Brandis passed away. This comment diversion makes me sad. SeaQuest rocked my world as a child due to him.

Posted by: Nicole at January 14, 2008 8:58 PM

1. Michael J Fox
2. William Zabka (he was Edward Woodward's son on the Equaliser, was in Karate Kid, so dreamy)
3. Ricky Schroeder, circa Silver Spoons
4. Jason Bateman, post Silver Spoons (Maybe Teen Wolf Two)
5. Kathleen Turner (so sexy, and unsurprisingly the only one of the above I felt i could get away with having a poster of in my bedroom in case my parents worked out what was going on in my head)

Posted by: Cris at January 14, 2008 9:16 PM

Oh.My.God....how could I forget Rick Springfield? I went thru a serious GH phase...my mom even won a contest on local radio so that we could go to some big fancy hotel ballroom, dressed to the nines, and watch Luke & Laura's wedding on a big screen TV (yes, she took me out of school for that...I still have the printed napkin.)
I distinctly remember watching GH and SCREAMING at Bobbi for not wanting to sleep with Dr. Noah Drake...dumbass!!!!!

And, my longest, first, bestest crush ever....Roger Daltrey.

Posted by: dammitjanet at January 14, 2008 9:25 PM

In order from the time I thought kissing was gross:

1. Luke Skywalker
2. Jim McMahon - Bears quarterback, and a real bad boy to a six year old
3. Michael Jackson. Shut up.
4. The Edge
5. Sebastian Bach. Gold lame pants and all.

Posted by: Kris at January 14, 2008 9:30 PM

1. Lori Loughlin in Full House
2. Jami Gertz in lost Boys
3. Claire Danes in Romeo & Juliet
4. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio in Robin Hood
5. Rochelle Davis in The Crow... (who really knows on this one, she hasn't done a movie since this one, but man did I love her)

"I cannot believe our collective crush shame broke Pajiba. Perhaps we could have a diversion asking the shittiest movie that we sat through solely for the purpose of eyeing our object of lust. Or has that been done?"

Dangle: Sidekicks...in the theater, starring Jonathan Brandis and (god help me) Chuck "Huckabee" Norris.

Posted by: Julie at January 14, 2008 10:07 PM

When I was younger it was

1) Jonathan Brandis (I saw him in It and was sold...then Ladybugs and I swooned)
2) Wil Wheaton (TNG aside I also loved him in Stand By Me and Toy Soldiers)
3) Christian Bale (I loved him in Empire of the Sun and still do!)
4) Chris Cornell (posters of him all over the room!)
5) Joshua Jackson (I'm seriously anticipating his comeback...it will come)

Posted by: Michelle at January 14, 2008 10:16 PM

Time frame: I was born in the early 70s so Alyssa Milano was not on my list. However my girl list was:

1. Diana Rigg
2. Olivia Newton-John
3. Sara Douglas (who played Ursa in Superman II)
4. June Chadwicke (aka Lydia from V)
5. Donna Summer

Now, my boy crushes...those guys you liked so much you wanted to be them.

Posted by: trooper6 at January 14, 2008 10:19 PM

1). Mike Meyers- circa 1993, which in fairness to my 7-year-old self, was his hottest year.
2). Mark-Paul Gosselaar- I still sort of have a crush on him.
3). Macaulay Culkin
4). Michael J. Fox- particularly in "Life with Mikey."
5). John Lennon

I still have really quirky taste in men too.

Posted by: heather at January 14, 2008 10:24 PM

1. Neil Patrick Harris (You know...Doogie Howser MD...who has since come out...)

2. Val Kilmer (Real Genius hottie)

3. Joshua Jackson (Mighty Ducks era)

4. Emilio Estevez (circa Men at Work. My sister was the Charlie Sheen fan)

5. Will Wheaton (I think that's his name. He was in Stand By Me and on Star Trek.)

6. I will cop to a lesser Corey Feldman crush due to Stand By Me, Lost Boys, Explorers, and Goonies

I was a loyal lass who went for big foreheads and brainy fellas.

Posted by: Skeggjold at January 14, 2008 10:26 PM

1. Mark Paul Gosslear. Zach Morris was so dreamy. All blond and sneaky and in love with Kelly. The episode where Kelly and Zach broke up while dressed like Romeo and Juliet? First time a TV show made me cry.

2. John Stamos. He sang! And had that hair! And, er. That's all, really.

3. Neil Patrick Harris. Doogie Howser, living my dream, with his puffy hair and too big lab coat.

4. Taylor Hanson. Look, I was twelve when they're first CD came out, Taylor and his pretty, pretty hair were just the right age, what can I say? (I now like Issac best.)

5. Joshua Jackson. He comes a little later than the others, but I will always love Pacey best. I want someone to buy me a wall.

2. JTT (if ya don't know, then I won't say)
3. Brad Renfro
4. Kurt Cobain
5. All of Metallica, but mostly Jason

Posted by: alexis at January 14, 2008 10:56 PM

Not a frequent commenter, but this one is fun!

1) Christian Bale (from Newsies, Swing Kids)
2) Noah Wyle (I was very strangely obsessed during the early ER days)
3) Anthony Michael Hall (LOVED him with a 7 year old's passion in Sixteen Candles, which technically was a movie before my time as I was born in '82 but I had an outrageously young mom who loved John Hughes and thus exposed me)
4)Charlie Sheen (Men at Work, Major League)
5) Gavin Rossdale (from the Bush days. It was the forearms when he played the guitar that did it for me.)

Posted by: BizzyBs at January 14, 2008 10:56 PM

Holy shit.

Posted by: Shii at January 14, 2008 11:03 PM

1. Christian Bale ( Swing Kids!- and then best part is, hes only gotten better. so he still is #1 on my list)

2. Bruce Boxleightner (Scarecrow and Mrs. King- I dont know whay but I LOVED that show. I think I actually crushed on both of them, so seeing them kiss was like imagining a threesome. Not that I thought of it that way at the time)

3. Robert Sean Leonard (Swing Kids, Dead Poets-I have a thing for pale sensitive British men. See #1)

4. Scott Baio (Charles can be in Charge of me anytime)

5. Phoebe Cates (first girl whose boobies I wanted to touch)

Posted by: frogirl at January 14, 2008 11:14 PM

After Number 1, not in any particular order:

1. Winona Ryder (Always and forever! My heart still aches for her character in Lucas. I remain, to this day, probably her most devoted fan. Even though she appeared in a movie with Adam Sandler, I still believe in Noni. I'll watch anything she's in, no matter how bad.)

2. Samantha Mathis (She can pump up my volume anytime.)

3. Meredith Salinger (Wow, what a woman! There isn't anything on her that isn't dizzyingly voluptuous. She was in Lake Placid recently and made that movie a billion times better for me.)

4. Moira Kelly (What can I say, she's an angel. I stopped watching The West Wing when she left the show. In retrospect, that may have been a mistake.)

5. Hedy Burress (Foxfire isn't a great movie, but I still like it, mainly because of Hedy. I can't really explain what it is about her that I think she is my idea of the idea woman. Of all the women on all my lists, I think I would actively persue a relationship with her first, given the opportunity. There's just something about her that I find comforting and genuine I guess, if that makes sense.)

If I were allowed to add a sixth, it would be Allison Elliott. She broke my heart in The Spitfire Grill, and she a tremendously tallented actress who falls beneath most people's radars.

Also, I'd like to extend mad props to Lincoln for mentioning Allison Smith. I was first introduced to this cutie on a TV show called Spy Game. I watched right up until it was canceled.

Posted by: CarpePancakes! at January 14, 2008 11:20 PM

I mangled that part about Hedy Burress. What I was trying to write was that I can't really explain what it is about her that I love, except to say that I think she is my idea of the ideal woman.

Posted by: CarpePancakes! at January 14, 2008 11:27 PM

I am so old. *bones creaking*
1. Parker Stevenson.
2. Harrison Ford. Yes, he too was young once.
3. Gene Wilder
4. John Stamos- from when he was Blackie!

And my memory simply doesn't go back any farther.

Posted by: demondoll at January 14, 2008 11:50 PM

1. Donnie from NKotB--Is it a bad sign I had a crush on the boyband badboy when I was 6?

2. Jonathon Brandis--I must have watched "Ladybugs" (which also stars Rodney Dangerfield and Jackee. Ech) about 3,000 times. Also, he got me to watch Seaquest DSV, which typically would not be an elementary school girl's first choice of entertainment.

3. Andrew Keegan--I went on a 2 week trip to Europe with my family and took a Bopp poster of him with me.

4. Jonathon Taylor Thomas...or JTT. Pics of him from Disney Adventures magazine were plastered all over my fifth grade locker.

5. Jordan Catalano--That character...particularly in the boiler room episode...ushered me into adolescence. Just rewatched the series, he still makes me weak in the knees, even though I now see the character was kind of an ass.

Posted by: Ami at January 15, 2008 12:04 AM

How about Jerry O'Connell as Quinn on the TV show Sliders? Friday nights were awesome with him.

Posted by: kelsy at January 15, 2008 12:14 AM

I'm old too! Eeeek!
1. Rick Springfield
2. John Stamos
3. Scott Baio

5. Any rock n roll musician with long dark hair! (still a fixation to this day!
And Gabrielle: Nuno was the hottest rocker - then he dyed his hair blonde. I almost wept!

Posted by: Trixie at January 15, 2008 12:18 AM

1. Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones--so dreamy)

2. Jonathan Taylor Thomas

3. A character on "The Young Riders"--his name on the show was Kid--I think his real name was Ty something.

4. Kevin Costner--I think this was mostly due to my older sister's influence.

5. Billy Ray Cyrus--My most embarrassing but also probably my biggest childhood crush--kind of hard to believe now, but I loved country music as a kid and thought he was so cute.

Posted by: Carebear at January 15, 2008 1:46 AM

Didn't really have any as a kid. So I'll post the ones I have now.

1. Sarah Michelle Gellar - She was my first. The moment I saw her running around kicking ass on Buffy I couldn't resist.

2. Kristin Kreuk - Just stunning. Love the exotic look. And she seems smart and grounded.

3. Morena Baccarin - She was so elegant in Firefly/Serenity. Also just stunningly beautiful. I think her smile may be the cure for all diseases. In fact they should have sent her to the Fox execs and had her smile at them and maybe they wouldn't have canceled the show.

4. Summer Glau - Continuing with the Firefly/Serenity theme. She has that innocent/cute/sexy thing going on. She can be all of those things at once. I loved how she looked walking around in the sun dresses and bare feet on the show. Everything she does is just beautiful.

5. Rachel Bilson - The epitome of cute. Never saw the OC but her performance in Chuck won me over.

Posted by: Dave at January 15, 2008 2:02 AM

Holy Shit Carebear! The Young Riders! My sisters and I were such whores for that show. We wanted to get with all of those boys.

5. Danica McKellar/Sherilyn Fenn (tied, can't help it)

Posted by: Jeff K at January 15, 2008 3:28 AM

1) Jennifer Connelly - She looks so beautiful in Rocketeer. I wrote a letter to her saying that I'm in love. Yes, I'm pathetic.

2) Winnie from Wonder Years - To this day I hate Fred Savage because he got to kiss Winnie.

3) That girl, Evie from 'Out of This World'

4) Janet Jackson - still fancies her. I think she's hot.

5) Candace Cameron from Full House - I like the baby fat! Cute.

Honourable mentions : Becca from Life Goes On

4. Face from The A-Team
3. Joey McIntyre from NKOTB
2. Mackenzie Astin (circa The Facts of Life)

I am *so* stoked that so many people here share the two sci-fi crushes of my youth. I can feel less embarassed and ashamed:

1. Jonathan Brandis (RIP - I was shocked to find he'd committed suicide)

2. Wil Wheaton (from TNG primarily, but also Toy Soldiers) I was too embarassed to talk to him at PAX last year, so I spent 30min taking stealth camera phone pics of him instead. me = DORK.

3. Ricky Schroeder - (from Silver Spoons!) Looking back on it, this was my earliest crush - and when I realized how much I LURVED dorky white boys with blue eyes. Oy.

4. Andrew McCarthy - From Mannequin *and* Pretty in Pink.

5. I will also cop to Jordan Knight from NKOTB

Posted by: hoorah at January 15, 2008 4:40 AM

Oh, you people make me feel so young.

Nick Carter- from Backstreet Boys

Leonardo DiCaprio- I was 10 when "Romeo and Juliet" came out...I didn't stand a chance.

Russell Crowe- I'm still holding out hope for this one.

Christian Bale- "Newsies" anyone? Open the gates and seize the day, Don't be afraid and don't delay..
Ah! So hot.

Posted by: Dingles at January 15, 2008 5:13 AM

Sweet diversion! I never got into the Teen Beat cover boys...my crushes were all inappropriately old.

1. Alec Baldwin - I watched The Hunt For Red October about a gajillion times as a kid because I was so in love with him.
2. Jeff Goldblum - Ditto The Fly. (Incidentally, that movie is SO not appropriate for children. Unless they love Jeff Goldblum.)
3. Dennis Miller - Loved him on Weekend Update.
4. Joe Elliott from Hysteria-era Def Leppard - I cannot explain this one, nor shall I try.
5. Tim Curry in Clue - Can't explain this one either, but I still feel it when I watch that movie.

Posted by: Jen at January 15, 2008 5:34 AM

1. Rider Strong from Boy Meets World. Sooo hot to a 13 year old girl. Too bad he couldn't act for shit.

2. CHRISTIAN BALE all the way, even when he became a Nazi in Swing Kids, leading us to...

3. Robert Sean Leonard, who is NOT British and was amazing in Dead Poets Society.

4. Winona Ryder. But mostly b/c I wanted to BE her. I went as Lydia from Beetlejuice for Halloween when I was 9.

5. Trent from Daria. I got over him right around the same time she did. Tom never did anything for me, though. And while we're at it.

6. Jane from Daria. The episode where the bisexual girl comes on to her at art camp? I was so disappointed when they didn't go at it.

7. John Leguizamo and the guy who played Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet. Daaaamn neither of them has ever looked better. Outdid Leo in so many ways.

8. Johnny Depp. A standby. Cry Baby, What's Eating Gilbert Grape especially.

Posted by: dede at January 15, 2008 5:50 AM

Hrm...
1 Jonathan Brandis. Awful actor. Very cute. Now dead. Was depressed when I found out.
2 Luke Skywalker. Mark Hamill didn't do enough else before getting old to make me prefer the actor over the character.
3 Slightly odd, but I thought Frodo from the Bakshi LotR was _awesome_ when about 7.
4 Mark Wossname from Take That. You know... the floppy one.
5 The kid who played the living version of Caspar in the horrible movie was rather yum to a tweener...

Posted by: Jen at January 15, 2008 7:12 AM

Posted by: s. pisaster at January 15, 2008 7:52 AM

I had kind of odd taste as a kid.

1. Andy Gibb (the most natural choice on my list)
2. Mr. Spock from Star Trek (I thought brains were attractive from a young age)
3. Kenny Rogers (I have no explanation for this
4. Luke Skywalker (no idea why I preferred him over the much cooler Han Solo)
5. Humphrey Bogart (I loved old movies; had a life-size poster of Bogey on my wall)

***Note: I'm not quite as old as these choices make me look--I'm 33. These are just my earliest crushes. ***

In no particular order of depth of crush (because it was all so long ago, I can't remember!)

1. Davy Jones of the Monkees
2. Pete Duel of Alias Smith & Jones. His suicide was the single most upsetting thing of my early teens... *sigh*
3. David Cassidy (I have no excuse - sorry!)
4. Robert Wagner in It Takes a Thief
5. Captain Kirk (not Shatner, Kirk. I thought he was real, see!) I am still impressed by the way he could manage to keep the twinkle in his eye, emote in that... weird....slowthenfast way, AND hold his tummy in, all at once. Awesome!

1. Alyssa Milano on Who's the Boss
2. Dana Plato on Different Strokes
3. Christie Brinkley from National Lampoon's Vacation

I was a child of the 80's so this list reflects that. These are the first celebrities I can remember really digging on.

1. Christina Applegate (poster with the ripped jeans and snake? check.)
2. Kristy McNichol
3. Madonna (Like a Virgin era)
4. Patricia Arquette (Dream Warriors and carried over to True Romance)
5. Jamie Luner (Just the 10 of Us)
Sci-Fi Tie
Erin Gray (Buck Rogers), Jane Badler (V)

Whoa there! We broke the Pajiba? This thread also had a reflexive computer breakdown effect: my machine has been fritzing out for two days. As the world's oldest Pajib[i]an (still semi-mobile, that's my story and I'm sticking with it), my numbers one through five are all Mark Spitz, the swimmer. And, I do not even like the water--some Cancerian I am! Seriously, when he mounted that stand and sailed through the water you knew God was in a very good mood. Spitz was the epitome of human grace, with a moustache!

Posted by: rudy at January 15, 2008 10:19 AM

5) Kirk Cameron (I called Growing Pains the "mike show")
4) Leonardo DiCaprio (for Growing Pains too)
3)Zach Morris
2)Benny from the Sandlot
1)Andrew Keegan. (sigh. Camp Nowhere)

Posted by: Dre at January 15, 2008 10:43 AM

1) Ariel - The Little Mermaid, need I say more?
2)Dr. Beverly Crusher - she was absolutely yummy. I have a thing for red heads.
3)Deanna Troi - Oh. MY. GOD!!! Those Starfleet uniforms never looked so good!
4)Scarlet from G.I. Joe. Redhead again. That and I enjoyed the thought that this women could not only kick my ass, but Cobra's as well
5)Sunny - Pissboy has Miss Elizabeth, I will take Sunny and I'll kick Skip's ass for her too! I took her theme song to heart "I Know You Want Me". Yes I do!!!

Posted by: ScarletKnight at January 15, 2008 10:43 AM

Bruce Boxleightner (Scarecrow and Mrs. King- I dont know whay but I LOVED that show.

Plus he had a cool car, and beat up the bad guys. I crushed on him hard.

It's amazing how many of these I forgot, and yet, as I read other people's lists, I'm constantly thinking "How could I have forgotten him?!?!" Case in point: Noah Hathaway, aka Atreyu from the first (and only, IMO) Neverending Story. I still swoon when I watch that movie.

Posted by: pinkcheese at January 15, 2008 11:33 AM

Good call on the redheads Scarlet. But I would just have to have a top 5 redhead crushes list.

1. Dana Delaney
2. Laura Leighton from Melrose Place.
3. I'll also say Scarlet from GI Joe. Something about the shape of her uniform was just SMOKIN'.
4. Bernadette Peters (definition of cute)
5. Rita Hayworth

And if I can't have Rita, I'll take Maureen O'Hara. I hate it every time I have to watch her kiss that pickle-smuggler Errol Flynn.

Posted by: PissBoy at January 15, 2008 11:35 AM

Hah- like everyone I will be dating myself with these choices, but how could I be expected to name only 5?

I pooh pooh that limit and instead provide a more representive, albeit longer list-

When I was a nipper: Donny and Timmy Osmond (and a bit of Marie as well), The Hardy Boys, Gopher off of the Love Boat, and all the Monkees

Awkward adolescence: Boy George, Ricky Schroder, Michael Jackson circa Off the Wall and Thriller, Duran Duran, Kirk Cameron, all of them off the Outsiders, Jimmy Stewart, still the Monkees

Smack-dab-in-the-middle-of-OBSESSED-with-boys phase: the hopelessly misunderstood protagonists from John Hughes and Hughes-alike films (and some of the antagonists as well), Michael J. Fox, Any of the Marx Brothers (that one's not faded at all- still have a mad crush on Harpo and Groucho, not so much Chico, and Zeppo lacks depth), just about every man from the golden age of Hollywood, Max Headroom, Swayze circa Dirty Dancing (the local talent near me was thin on the ground, so give me a break), and still the Monkees. And Lili Taylor.

Now my tastes are of the much more gay man variety. You can kind of see suggestions of fixations with gay men through the above list, but it is full-on homo loving once I hit about 17.

Posted by: Amanda at January 15, 2008 11:57 AM

Although I still love the Monkees

Posted by: amanda at January 15, 2008 11:59 AM

Definitely brings back some awkward memories...

1. Devon Sawa (Little Giants)
2. JTT
3. Shawn 'The Heartbreak Kid' Michaels (of WWF Fame..yup.)
4. Regis Philbin (I don't really understand this one. I was 12 and I thought he was so dashing.)

And all my fantasies I think I ripped off from episodes of Baywatch. But now I am a normal adult, I swear.

Posted by: shanski at January 15, 2008 12:25 PM

Female born in 1981....Let's roll:

1. Ralph Macchio (saw the Karate Kid at age 7, realized what boys were for.)
2. Jordan Knight from the New Kids on the Block (saw first concert at age 9, did the math and thought marrying him would work out.)
3. Billy Idol (first bad boy, have loved them ever since!)
4. Leonardo DiCaprio (playing the homeless kid on Growing Pains--still makes my heart flutter now and then.)
5. Gabriel Damon (Spot Conlon in the movie Newsies...amazing eyes, not sure what he's doing now.)

Runners up: Kirk Cameron, Andrew Keegan, Jonathan Brandis, Rider Strong.

Posted by: Leanne at January 15, 2008 12:29 PM

I love redheads, hence the name, Pissboy. Oh the times that I would swoon pretending that I was onboard the Enterprise and needed "medical attention". Naturally, I would then woo Deanna Troi and have a heavenly threeway, whilst Captain Picard watched on. Engage, indeed...or not.

Posted by: ScarletKnight at January 15, 2008 12:56 PM

1. Shaun Cassidy (my very first record album)
2. Andy Gibb
3. Rick Springfield
4. John Taylor of Duran Duran
5. Michael Hutchence of INXS

I always went for the musicians as a kid - and yes, I am old.

he he he...I am SOO glad to see that so many Pajibans are my contemporaries.

Posted by: dammitjanet at January 15, 2008 1:02 PM

1. Dustin Hoffman - I was probably no older than seven when this started up. He is the reason I have a twisted 'Captain Hook' fetish to this day. Have you seen the man lately?! He's probably the hottest 70 year old that ever lived.
2. Jeff Goldblum - I probably harbored crushes on every man who had dark hair, glasses, and reminded me of my father. (Yikes) Jeff was the highest contender there.
3. Jonathan Crombie - Yes! I can't believe I nearly forgot him. Gilbert was THE perfect man, wasn't he?

And now...I am about to be horribly embarrassed.

4. Isaac from Children of the Corn - I don't even...there is no explanation whatsoever.

Okay, I'm late coming in and only post about once a year but I had to post to this one.

In order of appearance in my girlhood fantasies:

1. Kirk Cameron
2. Corey Haim
3. Jon Knight (Jordan's quiet, less hot brother)
4. Jordan Knight (Jon proved a little too quiet)
5. Wil Wheaton/River Phoenix (Stand By Me)

Posted by: christina at January 15, 2008 2:06 PM

1. Jon Cryer (alla Pretty in Pink). Truly scary, stalker-like obsession. I was pretty sure we'd meet and ride off into the sunset. Damned you Two and Half Men, damned you all to hell.
2. Johnny Depp (Edward Scissor Hands). Liking him is such a cliché but my morose little eight year old self just loved his damaged soul (my parents worried).
3. Patrick Swayze (Dirty Dancing). I'm embarrassed but the man can dance. And wear a leather jacket.
4. Spock. Not Leonard Nemoy (although his voice is pretty fabulous and I think he has an excellent sense of humor), Spock. I was all about the Vulcan with feelings. IV, The Voyage Home. "Gracy does." Enough said.
5. Jonathan Taylor Thomas. I tuned in to Home Improvement just to see if he had cancer that one episode. Manipulative asshats!

I feel suddenly lighter, as if a great weight has been lifted.

Nice Scarlet. nice. I just did a quick talley of my major relationships since senior year of high school. 3 of 4 were with redheads. I have had random girlfriends thrown in as well that never got serious. I can't explain it. I think it's something about the skin quality. Smoothe. Porcelain-like. Something w/ the contrast between hair and body as well. ::sigh::....

1. Josh Server (he was one of the guys on the original cast of All That)
2. Leonardo DiCaprio
3. Bono
4. Kevin from the Backstreet Boys
5. Steven Page, lead singer of the Barenaked Ladies (my favourite band at age thirteen)

Posted by: Genevieve at January 15, 2008 3:34 PM

I'm not sure if these are "celebrities" in the sense you are thinking, but...

1 - Gambit (X-Men)
2 - Iceman (X-Men)
3 - Archangel (X-Men)
4 - Link (Zelda video games)

Yeah...it doesn't get more depressing than my list, does it? I didn't date much in high school. Obviously.

Posted by: Lex at January 15, 2008 3:34 PM

1.) Matt Dillon
2.) Duran Duran... especially John Taylor
3.) Jason Bateman
4.) Robert Smith (The Cure)
5.) Morrissey

I was a little celebrity-boy-crush crazy it seems because there are a WHOLE lot of names running through my mind (some of them extremely strange).

In no particular order:

1. Devon Sawa - my room was plastered with posters of his blonde mop. He is so unfortunate looking now...what happened?

2. Leondaro DiCaprio - again...posters everywhere! I saw Romeo and Juliet and thought my little teen heart might burst.

3. Kirk Cameron - oh, Growing Pains. Oh, Michael Severson!

4. Zack Morris - (why is that we all seem to list Zach but not Mark Paul Gosselaar?)

5. Brian Littrell - Yes. From the Backstreet Boys. I wanted to have his babies.

Honorable mentions: The two boys from "Hocus Pocus"..especially Omri Katz. Jonathan Brandis. Aladdin. Yeah, I totally mean the cartoon character. Ryan Gosling from his Nickelodeon days.Jordan Catalano. Seth Green.

Probably a billion more. What's wrong with me?

Posted by: Kitt320 at January 15, 2008 4:32 PM

s. pisaster - Oooooh, I know, Face! Remember the episode when he got shot (despite all the flying bullets this almost never happened) and the owners of the pizza place he was bleeding in the back of spelled out "SOS" in anchovies to alert the rest of the team to the trouble? God okay, I still love Face. And The A-Team. Screw childhood crushes, this one's real. And... you had a She-Ra towel? *jealousy*

Posted by: VampireNomad at January 15, 2008 4:38 PM

1. Balthazar Getty--So cute in Lord of the FLies and Young Guns 2. I think he's on some crappy show now.

2. Jay R. Ferguson--who? He was on the short-lived Outsiders series on Fox.

3. Christian Bale--saw him in Newsies (one of like 10 people who saw it in the theater). Supercute!!

4. Christian Slater--he was so cool. Where has he gone?

Can't think of a fifth.

Eerie that now two of my childhood crushes are dead. RIP Brad Renfro...

Posted by: Lex at January 15, 2008 7:23 PM

- The Cowboy from the Village People. Hey, I was nine! I didn't realise girls weren't interesting to those dudes!
- Greg Evigan. Oh, BJ!
- John Schneider as Bo Duke. Why one Duke gots to be so much prettier than the other? Seems unkind. Still gorgeous today, I might add!
- Michael J. Fox, well of course!
- Jason Bateman, when he was the star of "It's Your Move". Luckily still a very cool answer, and I wouldn't say no to him these days either.
- Can I include a sixth: Roger Taylor, the drummer from DuranDuran? I had a big poster of him and he was so pretty.

Posted by: slug at January 15, 2008 9:19 PM

Sheesh Brad Renfro. I would watch Tom and Huck over and over as a child, always ALWAYS wanting him a little bit more than the JTT, but never admitting it to my friends. Running into this comment diversion is scarily apt.

Now, current crush is the blonde in the lunch tray scene in Drop Dead Gorgeous, can anyone tell me who this is?

I've seen her before and she looks similar to Judy Greer, but she isn't. Not sure where else I've seen her...anyone? Bueller?

With all the pooled minds of Pajiba working on this I'm sure we can all pull together and come up with the correct name!

There's an idea for a post, though better for the inevitable future Pajiba Forums...

Name that Actor/Actress posts.

What a great idea!

Donnie Wahlberg, the bad boy

Ryan Gossling circa the Breaker High years, Sean was so vulnerable...

I forgot probably my most significant crush from late high school/early college.....a combination of Tom Cruise (Risky Business) and Tom Hanks (Splash). I had a boyfriend who looked like a combo of the 2 and I was desperately in love with him. Who couldn't love Tom Hanks (Mr. Mango on my shoulder!) or Tom Cruise on the El train (still the sexiest scene EVER) And, Charlie, if you are reading this, and you know who you are, I would LOVE to see you in your tighties-whities again.....

Posted by: dammitjanet at January 16, 2008 9:16 AM

I have trouble remembering most of my childhood, so I'll just post the most important one: Princess Leia. This was before I found out there was a real actress within that metal bikini, and that person didn't hang out with Han Solo. Once I realised the Millennium Falcon was out of the equation my interest wavered slightly, but there's no denying that I always felt a little awkward watching those scenes with my parents around.

Posted by: James at January 16, 2008 10:05 AM

VampireNomad, I was obsessed with She-ra and Jem too, even had one of those ridiculous dolls with the oversized head and the blinking earrings. By the way, when you're a little kid and someone asks who you think you are, don't answer "I am She-Ra! Princess of power!" You will get your ass whooped. Just sayin.

WhoWhatWhere: I just watched Drop Dead Gorgeous the other day...I think it was Amy Adams' character.

Posted by: Julie at January 16, 2008 6:42 PM

Oh boy...here goes:

1. Corey Haim (I was so desperately in love with him.)

2. Joey McIntyre/Jordan Knight (I flip-flopped between these two.)

3. John Schneider (Bo Duke on "Dukes of Hazzard" - I had the bedsheets and a John Schneider night gown!!)

4. Jon Bon Jovi (As much as I loved him then, he's much sexier these days.)

5. Davy Jones (My best friend and I were OBSESSED with the re-runs of that show...I'm only 30 years old, so I didn't watch this in its original running.)

I have to add a 6th:

6. Steve Burton (He was on "Out of This World" in the 80's and he's now the incredibly hot Jason Morgan on "General Hospital. He was the only celebrity I ever sent a fan letter to...and, to my surprise, I got a signed pic back!! I still love him!!!!!)

There were more, but these were the major ones.

Most of my crushes were so odd in retrospect, particularly for a girl born in 1977:

1. Art Garfunkel
2. Mike Nesmith
3. David Bowie (in Labyrinth, natch)

And, more age appropriately,
4. Neil Patrick Harris
5. Wil Wheaton

Oh, yeah -- and put me down for Bill Murray in Ghostbusters, too!

Posted by: Nora at January 16, 2008 9:53 PM

Jonathon Brandis. I didn't realize that he was dead. How sad.

Sully(?) from "Dr. Quinn". I totally loved that show when I was ten.

Gilbert from "Anne of Green Gables".

Posted by: misty at January 16, 2008 9:59 PM

Julie, Amy Adams was in Drop Dead Gorgeous but she was a red head (maybe more strawberry blonde) there too. This is a blonde in the lunch line, definitely not amy adams. The hunt continues.
Just one of those annoying instances where I cannot put a name to the face.

Posted by: WhoWhatWhere at January 17, 2008 12:54 AM

Kris - You had the doll with the star earrings that I coveted so greatly as a child? *jealousy* I wanted very badly to have Jem's earrings. And to be able to say "Showtime, Synergy" and have things happen. Your advice about not claiming to be She-Ra, Princess of Power is sound and I learned first-hand too when I went through a phase of doing everything "By the power of Greyskull". Like cleaning my room, doing the dishes, etc. Jem and She-Ra. Hey, I wonder if Jerrica could have used Synergy's power to become She-Ra instead of Jem? Holy crossover potential, Batman!

1. Joe McIntyre ... He was the youngest member of NKOTB, which made him seem the least out of reach. I was 8, and he was my first celebrity poster. I still have it somewhere, along with the Ken doll of him.

2. Jonathan Brandis ... I wish he could see how many people still remember him! I get sad every time I think about his suicide. I had so many pin-ups of that boy - straight from the pages of Bop to my closet door.

3. Elijah Wood ... It was a very brief phase, mostly associated with his appearance in the Cranberry's "Ridiculous Thoughts" video. Yeah, I was a little ashamed of it at the time, too.

4. Jared Leto ... from his My So-Called Life days. I was so Angela, and I was so in love with a boy just like him. When I watc My So-Called Life now, I still swoon over Jordan Catalano.

5. Brad Renfro ... He was the "bad boy" - as bad as you can be at 12 years old - of the Bop pin-ups. He was only one year younger than me and was from Tennesse, which was one state away from me. It seemed entirely plausible to me that he would drop by my town and fall in love with me. OH MY GOD, I just looked him up on IMDB, and he's DEAD - died just two days ago. This is insane. I'm completely devastated right now.

Geena Davis. Especially in Transylvania 65000.

Jennifer Connelly. Especially in Labyrinth.

Julie Carmen. Especially in Fright Night Part 2.

Susan Sarandon. Especially in, well, whatever the hell she's in really.
