William Shatner Rises Above a Load of Twittercrap Over Leonard Nimoy's Funeral
Some (many) days the internet makes us want to run and hide under our beds. As if Leonard Nimoy’s death this past Friday wasn’t bad enough already, we got a double-sad-whammy when a bunch of thoughtless Twitterfucks — and The Daily News — publicly attacked William Shatner for honoring a charity commitment he’d made months ago. If we mere admirers and devotees of Mr. Nimoy are crushed by the man’s death, we can only imagine what his friends and family are feeling. But nothing stops those troublesome TwitterTribbles from offering up their nastiest criticism and harebrained ideas, kicked off by a super-crappy headline.
After his own Tweets that he loved Nimoy like a brother and was “so humbled” by the outpouring of love and support, Shatner also wrote that he was feeling awful he couldn’t attend the funeral because he was in Florida for a charity event he’d agreed to months ago.
Shatner invited the world to honor Nimoy with him, and offered to answer questions about his friend.
The Daily News’ response?
Way to kick off the asshole party, eh? No worries, there were plenty more ready to criticize.
Shatner took the criticism in stride, noted that his two daughters were attending the funeral in his stead, and quickly turned attention back where it belonged. Kirk honored Spock the best way he could — answering fan questions with fond memories and tidbits.
