Wentworth Miller Responds to a Viral 'Fat' Meme with His Story of Depression
Wentworth Miller, star of Prison Break and The Flash, has made a career resurgence in the past few years, not only thanks to his acting but his honesty, coming out as a gay man and survivor of depression and suicide attempts.
So when a meme appeared, featuring him looking slightly less ripped than he did 10 years ago (and who among us doesn’t?), he responded with the exact honesty and eloquence you’d expect.
“Now, when I see that image of me in my red t-shirt, a rare smile on my face, I am reminded of my struggle. My endurance and my perseverance in the face of all kinds of demons. Some within. Some without.
Like a dandelion up through the pavement, I persist.
Anyway. Still. Despite.
The first time I saw this meme pop up in my social media feed, I have to admit, it hurt to breathe. But as with everything in life, I get to assign meaning. And the meaning I assign to this/my image is Strength. Healing. Forgiveness.”
This isn’t the first time Miller has addressed this history publicly. In his speech for the Human Rights Campaign, he discussed the first time he attempted suicide at just 15 years old.
The LAD Bible Facebook page that Miller screenshot has issued an apology.
