Following her SNL appearance this weekend, and in promotion of her upcoming film Big Eyes, the lovely and delightful Amy Adams was scheduled to appear on Today. Immediately before taping, the actress was informed her four-minute interview would contain questions about the Sony hack email revelation that she and Jennifer Lawrence made less than their American Hustle male counterparts. Adams told producers she’d rather not discuss the subject, though when the segment was taped, she “didn’t refuse to answer the question and she didn’t balk.” Still, claiming they “don’t allow guests to dictate restrictions on interviews,” Today completely cut Amy’s segment from the show. This despite the fact that Adams had NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SONY LEAK (unless, of course, these emails are to be believed).

In a nice show of support, Big Eyes distributors The Weinstein Company immediately made a statement:

“We firmly stand behind Amy Adams. We’ve been lucky enough to have had her talents grace several of our films. We are certain her fellow actors and directors would all agree, she is nothing but the consummate professional both on and off set. Amy decided to speak up for herself and express her disappointment that Today would feel the need to ask her a question she did not feel comfortable [answering], and rather than respect her opinion or continue the discussion, the reaction was to pull her appearance from the show.”

Booyah!

Interestingly, Deadline says Today recently interviewed Adams’ Hustle co-star, Bradley Cooper, and the topic was not approached with him.

Tim Burtons Big Eyes also stars Christoph Waltz, Krysten Ritter, Terence Stamp, Danny Huston and Jason Schwartzman, and hits theaters Christmas day.
