Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy caught our attention at the 2018 Winter Games not-so-much for his athleticism as for his history-making smooch and Gay Twitter game. Which is not a commentary on Kenworthy’s prowess as an athlete, more a reflection of how Pajiba priorities shake out. Anyhow, if you’re not following Kenworthy on Twitter, you really ought to get on it. Dude even manages to clap back with a wit that’s got us thirsty.

Promoting a paired interview with Kenworthy and fellow out and proud American Olympian Adam Rippon, Out Magazine tweeted this:

Which sparked a two-part response from Kenworthy that schooled Out.

Note: The second has been deleted. Below are the screencaps from Pajiba’s Slack

Basically, this bae is not “slightly muscular” and is too luscious with chest hair to be a twink. Which is no shade to twinks, just to whoever composed that inaccurate tweet. But also, if Kenworthy wants to explain the finer points of which gay subculture he does identify with by posting more shirtless selfies, we wouldn’t be mad.

Social media blunder aside, the Out interview is pretty great. Addressing his camera-captured kiss with boyfriend Matt Wilkas, Kenworthy said:

My only regret is that I didn’t know the cameras were rolling, or I would have full-on made out with him. Because, dude, it’s the Olympics — it’s beamed into television sets across the world, in countries where homosexuality is completely illegal, punishable by jail, or by death. And to force those people to see this gay kiss is the most amazing representation and visibility that we wouldn’t get to have otherwise. In a weird way, maybe it was the reason that I was at the Games. I didn’t do that well, but I left with my head held so high.
