Mindy Kaling's Awful Brother Says She Plays a 'Slut' As a Last Grasp For Attention

When the most lowly of dudes finds himself in the shadow of a woman, and just can’t seem to remove himself through any application of actual merit, what is he to do? Admit defeat? Examine his choices and/or perception of the world? Be a better human? Of course not. He calls her a slut.

“Slut” and “sabotage” are the last gasp of mediocre men refusing to believe they could be outshone by a woman. And amazingly, in this instance, I’m not even talking about Trump.

Remember Vijay Jojo Chokal-Ingam, the guy who pretended to be black on some college applications to prove that the world is just too kind to African-Americans? He also happens to be Mindy Kaling’s brother, and has used her name ad nauseum in trying to promote the self-published book he’s written about this non-experience.

His latest grab at attention (ugh, so sorry to oblige) is to criticize her Mindy Project character for how many fictional men she’s slept with. He ranted to Page Six about a quote from Kaling that “This book will bring shame on our family,” saying “You play a slut on national TV, and you think this [book] will bring shame on the family?”

Vijay also says Kaling “tried to sabotage the book, and that’s not acceptable.”

This makes no sense for a couple of reasons. To start with, that quote from Kaling about bringing shame on their family? That’s on the cover of his book. His self-published book.

He’s also indicated in the past that that quote is meant to be tongue-in-cheek. Or at least, that’s what it sounded like when he emailed Courtney his rambly promotional defense last month.

With regards to my sister Mindy Kaling’s comment that “this book will bring shame on our family,” you will find in my book that she was actually the first person to jokingly suggest that I write a book about my story. “This whole scam of yours is actually pretty cool. It’s surprisingly funny. I’m proud of you.”

So Kaling insults his book, but either it’s a joke or he’s owning the insult; either way he uses her name and words to sell his shitty book. But then it’s not a joke and suddenly she’s a slut?

It’s also not clear how the sexuality of her character would bring shame on their family. Yes, I know this could be an issue for some people, some families. But wouldn’t you think her parents would be more focused on the fact that she is an incredibly successful writer, actor, and executive producer of her own show? Wouldn’t that success be more important than the insignificant number of fictional men her fictional character has slept with?

Of course it is. That’s why he so clearly feels victimized by it. Right now, Kaling is promoting her own book, Why Not Me?, doing book signings and TV appearances. God, that must just be killing this guy, right? He went through all the trouble of being a racist asshole, not doing very well in school, and cobbling his perceived persecution together into something resembling a book, and it’s Mindy who gets all the attention? Just because she worked super hard to create a popular television show bearing her own name and face and words, and people appreciated her work enough to sign her to a lucrative book deal?

There’s only one explanation. Well, two, really. Slut and sabotage, amirite?
