Katy Perry Shames and Rages Against Australian Paparazzi Who Stalked Her

Last week Patricia Arquette recounted letting her f-bombs fly at a paparazzo who refused to stop following Arquette and her daughter after she asked him to leave them alone. “I’m teaching my daughter. If a man is following you and you tell him to go away and he doesn’t, you turn around and say, ‘F— you!’ as loud as you can.” Some of these relentless photographers are getting more and more aggressive with celebrities, and I don’t blame any of these ladies for doing what they can to defend themselves, especially drawing public attention to harassment when it’s happening.

This weekend, Katy Perry was trying to take a peaceful walk on a beach in Australia, and though she asked the photographers following to let her be, not only did they not leave the singer alone, they outright sexually harassed her. Actually…they were completely obnoxious pigs. Here’s Perry’s clearly upset and frustrated tweet:

A little bit later she posted photos of a few of the photographers, and then this follow-up tweet:

Fawcett, who calls himself “The Prince of Paparazzo,” already has quite the history with overstepping celebrities’ boundaries. In 2012 he was served with a Apprehended Violence Order, and taken to court by Mel B after getting into a verbal argument with her husband, and allegedly putting the singer’s life in danger. Back in 2005, Nicole Kidman also filed a restraining order to keep the photographer away from her after Kidman became frightened when Fawcett and another paparazzo chased Kidman’s car; she also discovered a listening device placed near her house (though no charges were brought, Fawcett lost a defamation suit against the Sun-Herald and Kidman, who testified that Fawcett had placed the device outside her home. The judge sided with Kidman). Last year, Fawcett was arrested after getting into an altercation with, and possibly purposely driving into another photographer who was trying to take pictures of the same celebrity as Fawcett.

So basically, this is a guy with zero moral compass or boundaries , and who has absolutely no business being in the business he’s in. (This interview is pretty telling — “He’s adopted…he needs validation…he’s a hunter…”) While some people may feel that celebrities know what they’re getting themselves into when they choose the career they do, there’s no way in hell anyone deserves to be stalked like this, never mind by some naked asshole who thinks he’s got a right to do whatever he wants to to get a “personal” picture. Katy Perry is doing the absolute right thing by publicly shaming him, and if she’s smart, she’ll also file a restraining order and (if Australian law provides) harassment charges against Fawcett and the others.

Currently on her Prismatic World Tour, Perry also tweeted another announcement Sunday evening; she’ll be headlining the Superbowl halftime next year:
