The impossibly brawny Joe Manganiello recently reprised his role as Big Dick Richie on the set of Magic Mike XXL, the sequel to the stripper drama that had critics raving and audiences salivating. But it seems that playing an exotic dancer is not all harmless hip wiggles and namesake swinging. On set, Manganiello busted up his arm pretty badly when a strip routine went wrong.

This unexpected tale on onset injury was leaked not by anyone connected to Magic Mike XXL, but by Manganiello’s girlfriend Modern Family star Sofia Vergara. On Conan, she positively cackled as she related what became of her burly beau, explaining, “He had a problem with his arm because he was doing some crazy routine and the girl he was with doing the stripper [sic] for did something wrong. And things went wrong so he got hurt. It’s dangerous to be a stripper. I thought it was just fun and games, but no.”

While not a thorough medical explanation—or much an explanation at all—Vergara’s comments explain the cause of the arm brace that her paramour has been spotted wearing around Los Angeles. You can see it in this pic from her Instgram:

So if you—like some of us who will go unnamed—were holding out hope that Manganiello was working his way to super studly cyborg, we sincerely apologize for dashing your dreams.
