They may be the budget Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, but the divorce of Nia Vardalos and Ian Gomez is no less devastating to those of us who found out sometime around 2002 or 2003 that gay Javier from Felicity was straight-married to the Canadian-Greek lady who starred in and wrote that terrible movie that everyone’s mother seemed to love, Nia Vardalos.

Questionable taste aside (and I am referring here to My Big Fat Greek Wedding and not Felicity, natch), the break-up of Ian Gomez and Vardalos is heartbreaking because the couple’s 25 years of marriage made them one of Hollywood’s most durable couples (Rita and Tom, at 30 years, still represent the gold standard). The couple cites “irreconcilable differences” and are asking for joint custody of their 11-year-old daughter.

Gomez is going to need a big Big Carl wine glass and a lot of Penny Can to get through this. Gomez’s last Instagram post, in January, was also surely a bit of social-media foreshadowing:

Tom Bergin’s is closing. 🙁 #tombergins @bblondell

In unrelated Felicity news, Amy Jo Johnson is still married to Olivier Giner, which is the greatest name in redneck history (go ahead, say it with a redneck accent and try not to laugh). Also, this is how he’s known on Google:

Otherwise, the rest of the Felicity cast seems to be doing just fine.
