George Takei vs. Baby Goose

By Vivian Kane | Celebrities Are Better than You | February 10, 2014 | Comments ()

In a recent interview with the Huffington Post, we learned a lot about Twitter King George Takei: He’s a cryer, he hates flying, his happy place is sitting on his patio with his husband Brad, and oh yeah, HE THINKS RYAN GOSLING IS BORING.

When asked to name something he finds overrated, Takei said he’s fine with twerking and selfies, but said he doesn’t get The Goose:

I don’t know what all this hoo-ha about Ryan Gosling is about. He’s more often boring than not. I mean, he’s an alright actor, but I don’t think he’s as gripping and compelling as people like Matt Damon or George Clooney.

Look, we’re all entitled to our own opinions. I’m sure half of you reading this agree with Sulu. But I have to tell you… you’re wrong. Your opinion is wrong. Ryan Gosling was made to meme, has dance skills to rival Paul Rudd, and, let’s not forget, taught us all what the future will be like.

So stick that in your hoo-ha.

Vivian Kane looks forward to hearing why she’s wrong on this one. You can yell at her here.

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

Someone should make a recut Blue Valentine trailer so it looks like a comedy, and not like the most devastating movie experience I've ever had.

  • googergieger

I liked him in, umm, he did that one movie with Hopkins I dug alright. I don't know. I'm sure he did some other stuff too. Yeah all in all, he is pretty meh.

  • Coolg82

I personally did not pay any attention to him until Drive, and while I think he is a good actor, I wasn't really interested in any of his vehicles after Drive, except for Only God Forgives, and I think that is just a blamed on Nicolas Winding Refn as it is Ryan Gosling. I certainly wouldnt say he was boring though.

  • I almost missed out on this?!??!??!!

  • emmalita

He does nothing for my lions, but I liked him a lot in Lars and the Real Girl and Half-Nelson.

  • BWeaves

I thought the Real Girl was more interesting. Not the movie, the blow up doll.

  • DeaconG

    Um, that's not a blow-up doll.

    (Seriously NSFW)

  • e jerry powell

Those things cost too damn much for something that won't talk back.

  • DeaconG

With their construction I'm actually surprised they don't cost more-and the price hasn't massively increased over the years (they stayed at $4K for many years until recently).

  • e jerry powell

Now, see, that's a down payment on something...

  • DeaconG

Do you know how much audio, camera or computer gear I can get for that?

Then again, for some folks, they just gotta have it. It's a prosthethute (sp) (David Brin's Earth-prosthetic substitutes)

  • kirbyjay

I thought that was a plus?

  • e jerry powell

There's actually an episode of "Real Sex" (or "Taboo," I can never remember which) devoted to just that.

  • chanohack

You're wrong because Takei is not the King of Twitter, he's the King of Everything.

  • Bert_McGurt

Perhaps George just hasn't seen him in the right project (like in high school on a cruise ship)...

  • Mentalcase

I don't know what show this is from but I do need to know what's up with Shirtless Bro #1 on the left there. Is he floating? Is this a show about super-powered cruise ship staffers? Do SB1's powers include floating and pointing??? Talk, you!

  • vivkane

I was obsessed with this show!

  • belphebe

I'm going to chalk this one up to generation gap. There are a lot of "greatest" movies made in the 1970s that I just don't get the appeal of like "Easy Rider." I can appreciate the movie intellectually, but I think it is rather dull.

  • Some Guy

Dull was a prerequisite for many "iconic" movies from the 70s in general.

  • vivkane

Be warned: Dustin is apparently ready to downvote ALL dissent!

  • Jezzer

If Ryan Gosling looked like Steve Buscemi, people would be quicker to catch on to what a bland, middle-of-the-road actor he is.

  • pajiba

    Downvote. DOWNVOTE.

Nobody messes up the interrupting cow joke better than Gosling.

  • NateMan

As always, Takei is absolutely 100% right. But then I've never gotten the Baby Goose adoration.

  • poopnado

Brittany L. Smith makes a good point, NateMan. Reconsider your Baby Goose hate.
