David Spade, Jack Nicholson, & Lara Flynn Boyle: Hollywood's Weirdest Love Triangle
For this story to make even a modicum of sense, I first need to tell/remind you that, baffling as it may be, David Spade is a mega ladies’ man. Yup, this guy:
Has, in the past, dated Kristy Swanson,
And a bunch of other women so far out of his league I didn’t even know he played the sport. So now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, it should surprise you less to hear a story about that time David Spade dated Lara Flynn Boyle.
Or more specifically, about that time Jack Nicholson was a major jerk and hit on Lara Flynn Boyle right in front of David Spade. Spade told Details the story of the late 90s love triangle, and Nicholson’s less than subtle romance tactics.
“Nicholson asked Lara Flynn Boyle out in front of me, while we were all smoking a doob somewhere.”
Classy, Jack. Apparently Lara denied having any interest in Nicholson. NONE. Less than none.
She got mad because I didn’t stick up for her. I said, ‘I’ve been in this town long enough to know when I’m outranked. You’re either gonna go out with him or you’re not.’ She goes, ‘No way. He’s worse than Trump!’
Worse than Trump? I know Nicholson has a reputation for womanizing, to the point that he had a secret underground tunnel leading from his house to the Playboy Mansion. But, and I repeat myself, I know— worse than Trump? That’s some pretty heavy protesting, m’lady. And wouldn’t you know it, not long after, Spade received an early morning call in the summer of 1999 from TMZ, asking for a comment on the car accident involving Nicholson and Boyle. From the report, Lara Flynn Boyle crawled out of the sunroof of Nicholson’s car, yelling “I have a boyfriend! I can’t be here!”
Super subtle, Lara Flynn. She and Nicholson dated on and off for a few years afterward.
This is your friendly reminder that Jack Nicholson is gross and Jennifer Lawrence needs to never speak to him again.
