Ben Affleck Backhands Marvel, and Dodges Infidelity Rumors
When life hands you madness, is it better to embrace it, or to run and hide until things calm down? Sometimes, a bit of both, perhaps? Following the announcement he and Jennifer Garner are ending their marriage, Ben Affleck’s been nearly as busy as the masked man he plays onscreen. First up, he served Marvel a little backhanded slap, joining his Warner Bros. bros who (judging by their comments) must feel a little intimidated by the Avengers/Guardians one-two box office punch. CEO Kevin Tsujihara has said, “The worlds of DC are very different. They’re steeped in realism, and they’re a little bit edgier than Marvel’s movies,” and Warner Bros. President Greg Silverman offered his take on DC (vs Marvel): “The filmmakers who are tackling these properties are making great movies about superheroes; they aren’t making superhero movies. And when you are trying to make a good movie, you tackle interesting philosophies and character development.” But, just in case we haven’t gotten the very serious message, Ben has his own take on the differences between the two film universes:
“It is more mythic, it is more grand in that way, and it is a little more realistic. Just by their nature, these films can’t be as funny or as quick or as glib as Marvel movies.”
Suh-lam. Okay, Ben; I guess we’ll have to take your word for it until we see the whole of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but until then, I’ll be busy watching this:
Let me know if DC has anything to add to the mix.
In other post-Affleck/Garner breakup news, those ever-helpful unnamed sources are denying reports that Ben’s obsession with a certain DC co-star are absolutely not true, and have nothing to do with the split. Claims that Affleck has “developed serious feelings” for Margot Robie are “simply not true.” The source also says Ben ‘barely spent anytime with Margot” on the Suicide Squad set.
Okay, source, we’ll take your word for it.
Amid the madness, Ben and Jen have reportedly retreated with the kids to their Bahamas vacation home (aka in sanity).
