Affleck is Back, Baby! Again.
The Bomb in Phantoms, Yo / Dustin Rowles

ben-affleck-beard.jpgGood news and bad news on the Ben Affleck front. The good news: He’s lined up to direct a dark, heist-romance called The Town, which he will also rewrite, working from a script by Peter Craig. The film is based on Chuck Hogan’s novel, Prince of Thieves. The bad news: He’s also in negotiations to star.

No, Ben! No.

If anything, Gone Baby Gone taught is one thing: Ben Affleck is a much better writer/director than he is an actor (I know, it doesn’t take much, but still: He’s a great director). The Town involves “a high-tension love triangle between a female bank manager, a longtime thief who stole more than her heart, and an equally smitten FBI agent trying to bust the crook and his gang before they can pull another big job.”

After a fairly long hiatus from acting (save for a small role in Smokin’ Aces), Affleck is also set to star in three upcoming films, including She’s Just Not that Into You (Boo!), State of Play, based on the BBC series (intrigued!) and the next Mike Judge comedy, Extract, the set of which the above photo was taken (H/T Just Jared).

So, Dustin, are you finally doing a live review of "Phantoms"? He's just trying to save the world, you know.

You're forgetting that homoerotic star-studded musical feature he did with Jimmy Kimmel - he totally killed it in that role!

Oh good, butcher State of Play, America. Go right ahead.

I dunno, I like Ben as an actor in supporting roles. Ones that are just big enough for his natural likability to do most of the work.

I am excited he's getting behind the camera again, though. 'Gone Baby Gone' was such an underrated film last year.

I like Ben. LEAVE BEN ALONE!

How pathetic is it that Phantoms scared the living bejesus out of me when I was about 12? To be fair, I think it had more to do with the residual terrors of Silent Hill, but by the end of the first 20 minutes or so of Tits McGowan and that other girl walking around the abandoned town finding all the creepy shit and severed heads, I was a quaking little ball of fear and urine and couldn't even watch the rest of it. That's just...kinda sad, really.

If you've seen Dogma, you wouldn't dare call him a bad actor. Sure, he has made bade choices. But when he's given good material, he kills it.

Casey's so much more charismatic. His few minutes of screen time are pretty much the only reason I can watch the Ocean's movies over and over again.

Well, him and Matt Damon.

But still! Let your brother star!

Ben Affleck stole the idea from the movie "TOWNIES" which has been in development for 4 years and takes place in the same town and is about criminals with a romantic twist. He read the TOWNIES script just a few weeks before he announced he was making THE TOWN. I sent TOWNIES to one of his good firends BUBBA to give to BEN. I GUESS HE READ IT. SPREAD THE WORD.

Ya, I agree. I hate what Ben did hear by screwing with MIkey O Dea who was working on the movie "Townies" which takes place in Charlestown MA ( a small section in Boston that most of it's residents are blue collar lower middle class Irish. There and South Boston are the two places in Boston where it is mostly Irish) I do like Affleck and I loved Gon Baby GOne but i know how hard MIlkey was working on this. Mikey worked on this film with hardly any money what so ever for 3 plus years and then has to change the name bcuase Affleck wants to make a movie called the "Town" based in Charlestown, which sucks for MIke, but on the positive side, Mikey just hooked up with the producer of the GREAT movie "NARC," and he is gona work with Mikey to make it better. The movie will now be called "Code OF Silence" or "THE Code of Silence" IF your from Southie or Charlestown you then obviously know how important the COde was so it is a great name for the movie. BUT GOOD LUCK MIKEY
