The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades
Gotta Get Back in Time / Seth Freilich
Word has it that ABC is very close to giving the greenlight to a pilot called “Flash Forward.” The show is based on a book by Robert J. Sawyer, where a high-energy experiment goes wrong, causing everyone to pass out for two minutes and see what their lives look like 20 years in the future (fuck black holes — let’s see the LHC do that shit!). When they wake up, there’s mass chaos from all the shit that happens when the whole world passes out for two minutes — car and plane crashes, and the like. And then folks have to deal with the ramifications of their future visions, both as to themselves and society as a whole.
The pilot script was co-written by David S. Goyer (Batman Begins) and Brannon Braga (a “Star Trek” guy), both of whom will exec produce. The show as originally pitched to HBO which passed, and ABC then won a bidding war with Fox. Certainly sounds like an interesting concept, and ABC is surely envisioning this as the show that it may finally be able to successfully pair up with “Lost,” but I suppose, pun intended, time will tell.

The premise sounds like a mash-up of The Nine and Day Break, both of which were ABC series, both of which were cancelled before they could get their legs under 'em. Maybe ABC wants a do-over.
Goyer's name is enough to have me interested, though.

Brannon Braga did write some of the really best Star Trek TNG episodes, TNG being the only Star Trek that worked for me (sorry Shatner hordes), so I may have to give this the benefit of the doubt. But then again, ABC, not exactly a network with a history of choosing good TV (again apologies to the Lost hordes).

Freilich, Is that German or what? Anyway I haven't had the pleasure of denouncing your work. I'm not like these other posters here, I won't blow smoke up your ass. Your present column seems nice enough, you got straight to the point, and you didn't bore me with useless details. You'll find that I'm a fair but firm person and I won't shit on your columns just for the sake of shitting. When you begin to write longer columns I'll critique your work and pass along my assessments to Director of Operations Rowles.

Awesome, a Flash Forward remake! I hope they can get Ben Foster, Cher Horowitz, Lars, Kaylee and Jennifer Pisana back.
(Yeah, I don't watch Lost, never saw Star Trek, and didn't like Batman Begins, so my initial reaction stands.)

Huh, must pass this tidbit on to my lovely husband. He's a bit of a Sawyer junkie as well as a Trekkie.
Better not be terrible, as I don't think I'll have any choice on whether or not we're watching it.
On second thought, maybe I'd best wait for a review before I tell him about it....Keep me posted, Seth sweetie!

With the right people, this could be a perfect pairing for Lost.

Sabrina, I thought the same thing. Bringing back Ben Foster & Jewel Staite in Flash Forward would be super sweet.

Holy shit! I haven't thought about that show for years. It was like lightning in bottle of goofiness. Wasn't Ryan Gosling on it for a while, too. Great, now I'm going to spend all day looking for episodes online. Thanks a lot.

As long as it doesn't follow the plot of the book too tightly it should be good. I'd rather they use the concept and not also the story. But Sawyer+Braga+Goyer= must see pilot, at least

@Clair, I completely agree. I love Sawyer's books, but I tend to like his ideas a bit more than his execution. This could potentially be great news!

Sounds interesting, actually. May watch.

Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.
