'The Walking Dead' Recap, 'Say Yes'

Previously on The Walking Dead: Eugene pretty much decided to swear all loyalty to Negan and come on over to the Dark Side, especially since they pretty much have all of the cookies.

THE STORY SO FAR: Rick and Michonne are together and on the move as they search for (lots of) guns and ammo, in order to recruit Jadis and the Not-At-All-Affiliated-With-Fat Albert Junkyard Gang in their war against Negan and the Saviors.

WHAT’S GOOD ABOUT THE EPISODE: Rick and Michonne showing us how much they trust each other, adore each other, have faith in each other to take out many a Walker without breaking a sweat or and without getting overly worrisome and protective, and having plenty of hot, dirty, passionate sex in between.

There seems to be a lot of ‘Richonne’ sex in this episode, and it is most welcome.

Seeing Rick and Michonne be affectionate and light-hearted with one another, even if only for a brief time. Rick being able to let his guard down around her and smile, and Michonne being able to do the same. Which is another thing that is most welcome, as Danai Gurira is not only gorgeous, but so is her smile.

Rick and Michonne confiding in each other that whether or not the worst happens, and whether they do it alone or together, they trust each other to lead their people and help rebuild to make things better.

Sasha telling Rosita, who approaches her about breaking onto The Saviors’ compound and killing Negan right then and there, that she’s going to be the one who takes the kill shot (and with newly-acquired sniper rifle from Rosita, no less.) Considering that Rosita had trouble busting a cap in Negan’s ass when he was standing only ten feet away, it’s definitely for the best.

Jadis continuing to give off, whether purposefully or not, “I can and will fuck you against a chain-link fence like Linda Fiorentino in The Last Seduction” vibes while talking to and negotiating with Rick over acquiring more guns and getting her spring metal cat back.

(Or maybe I’m just projecting and I should just buy The Last Seduction on DVD from Amazon. Such a great movie.)

WHAT’S NOT SO GOOD ABOUT THE EPISODE: Every single scene with Rosita being a whiny and annoying pain-in-the-ass, from her snapping at Tara to her yelling at Father Gabriel, for having the audacity to give her advice that is summed up: your life matters, so please don’t get yourself killed because you’re needed here and not just to kill Walkers.

DOES NEGAN KILL ANYONE ELSE?: No.

IS DARYL STILL ALIVE? BECAUSE IF HE’S NOT, THEN WE RIOT: Yes, he’s still alive.

ANY TIME-TRAVELING ALIENS IN THIS EPISODE?: No, they’re busy crying their eyes out in the year 2018, all because they’re sitting down together and watching the newest episode of This Is Us and they’re surprisingly quite emotional.

TO SUM IT ALL UP: This episode didn’t push the plot forward all that much (surprise, surprise) but seeing Rick and Michonne together doing their thing to secure as much weaponry as they could find while also taking the time to express their devotion to one another made this a pleasant and entertaining hour of television to watch. I don’t expect there to be too many more episodes like this as the season winds down and we get closer to the All-Out War between Rick and his people and Negan and the Saviors, but then again, this is The Walking Dead we’re talking about after all, and the writers and producers have spent the past seven seasons new ways to streeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetch out the plot when it’s not entirely necessary.

This was some of Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira’s best work (say what you will about the quality of the show, and Hera knows I do, the two of them have put in consistently solid performances each and every season) and they remind us once again why we care so much about these characters and why we hope they end this season victorious.

This episode of The Walking Dead was brought to you by “You’re All I Need To Get By” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell:

And also by “I’ll Be There For You/You’re All I Need To Get By” by Method Man and Mary J. Blige:
